It sounds kinda muddy, but I love whatever SID emulator that is.
Not SID. But thanks! :)
I really hate chiptune now. Seems it's turned into a bandwaggon. No offence to those making it.
Working on a piece for that album thread. Plan on putting some ridiculous lyrics but I'm having a difficult time with the phrasing. Maybe I could do out a melody track. http://filebox.me/files/sghvz0i9x_Segment.mp3
The way you play the guitar puts me off, I'm not sure why but it seems... random, I suppose. I just can't get the rhythm right on this one, the first piece being played is impossible to get right and I'm playing slightly behind the drums. I think it sounds pretty good after that first bar, but I'm sure that's just me liking the piece I'm doing and it sounds weird to everybody else.

I tried to do what Pepin said, so any criticism would be greatly appreciated again.

The kicks are catchy, the song is vibrant. I like it. Looks like something from a Sonic game or something, really nice. [editline]14th December 2010[/editline] Still trying :saddowns: The keyboard part is a bit messed up, I think, but it's because I played it on my PC's keyboard and I can't play a real keyboard Come at me, critics. :ohdear:

What DAW do you use by the way?
I wouldn't say it's good, but it's definitely an improvement from your previous song. What DAW do you use by the way?
FL Studio. I know it's not good, but this time I'll actually work on it. I don't really know what to do, though. I know that it's missing something, but I don't know what. The beats sound weird too, I wanted to find a good C64 VST but didn't have any luck - the good one I found, drsid, has only 8 samples. [editline]14th December 2010[/editline] Offtopic, but motherfuck
The way you play the guitar puts me off, I'm not sure why but it seems... random, I suppose.
What would be random about it exactly? I really don't understand because I was playing a really simple rhythm. The chord progression? I could see CM7 to DSUS2 being a bit unusual, or at least far less common. Could easily be the annoying tone. I just picked whatever preset sounded somewhat alright with it. If you're so concerned about others liking it, it really is going to dampen your artistic potential. [editline]14th December 2010[/editline] This is some progress on it today. I'm still working on the lyrics and I'm trying to figure out what the chorus will be exactly. I don't want to start on the chorus until I really know what it's going to be about. http://filebox.me/files/6019v2rcr_Segment2.mp3
A little something I've been working on today. Don't mind the wobble at the end, I was never planning on it to be 'dubstepish' or anything. also, shit is whack at the end, I know.

That was what bothered me really, and not your guitar.
You want to write music that you like. If you're so concerned about others liking it, it really is going to dampen your artistic potential.
(I guess I've really chosen the wrong words in that post) but what I was meaning is that if it sounds off rhythm or 'weird', I've come to realize that my sense of rhythm isn't perfect and even though I myself think it sounds good I know that it might not sound good to others. I know music is for my own pleasure, but as I've mentioned I've started to realize that my sense of rhythm isn't as good as I want to think it is. http://filebox.me/files/6019v2rcr_Segment2.mp3
I like the lead, the comments on the last piece still stands however. My bro came up with a really sweet riff, I worked out the drums and added just a final touch to the song and it's pretty much finished ; [editline]15th December 2010[/editline] Edit : and the mistake at around 01:24 we decided to keep.
I think it's off to a good start. I'll see what Yur|ko thinks of it, and maybe if he does like the idea we can come up with something cool. :buddy:
Meh, mastering is just the transition process from master to media. The medium in this case is the mp3-file. And with one track, the whole mastering process isliterally just rendering the track from final mix to mp3. Yes, "mastering" sounds cooler, but it's not interchangeable with "mixing"! You just end up sounding unprofessional.
I always thought mastering was just the final touches you put on your song to make sure it sounds correct; like making sure there isn't any distortion, and that each element to the song has its own presence without compromising the other elements. Something along those lines at least. [editline]15th December 2010[/editline]
This a nice chillout tune I'm working on, think I'm going to master it louder, you'll just have to turn it up for now. Feedback welcomed! 1000 POST GET!
Started out similar to the music from Mirrors Edge but became more of a lounge track in the end. I liked it quite a bit. Good work. :D

Something along those lines at least.
That is all in the mixing realm. I'm going to say there are four stages to writing a song 1. Writing 2. Recording 3. Mixing: Fixes any issues with the music, clears up any masking, may add effects like reverb to add to the thickness on an instrument. There can be lot to this. 4. Mastering: This is done after the mix is finalized. Only the final rendered mix is mastered. You literally export the mix into a wav file work off of that. Mastering does not change anything in the mix because it is working off the final mix, to make sure you understand: you cannot adjust track volumes or add a little less reverb to the snare. When people master, they usually are given a much more punchy mix and all the sound peaks at -12db. That allows for much more headroom in mastering the audio. The overall sound is usually not very compressed and this usually because the music is compressed in the mastering process. The mastering engineer may fix small issues with the mix and will often do some equalization, but they are just modifying the mix, they aren't changing it. Mastering is putting a final polish on and making it so that the level of the music will work on an album so there isn't need for constant volume change.

I'm bad with timing with keyboard drums. I really feel like I'm on time too, even when I play my performance with the track. But it never all that close to good timing. I know I need more and more practice, but I find it odd that it doesn't make much of a difference to my ears.
Not SID. But thanks! :)
So what is it, then? Sounds really close to one, only other thing I could peg it as would be one of those fucked up Konami custom chips.

http://soundcloud.com/bytecry/acoustic-guitar-wip-1 Quick track I made. I plan to add Bass, Electric guitar and expand the drums.

A song I've just started working on. Started an hour ago, I think. How does it sound so far?
I like the sounds you got going, the intro were slightly confusing (up until around 0:15) but listening to it a second time makes it seem natural.
