Well if your going to repeat your high pitched pattern more than twice in a row something I've found helpful is adding a mid range element/synth that adds variation without disturbing the main synth pattern. To do so though you may have to make room for it in the mix. Also something else I've noticed about repetition in music in general is that its ok to have excessive repetition. As long as the repeating pattern is either a. not the main synth b. complicated enough that nobody notices and almost always it is important to make it subtle enough to let the other parts change against the repetitive pattern giving it a new or different feel. Of course that is just some of my personal theory. Keyword there is theory. :P I'm confident there might be situations where the above might not apply at all! I think for your song, maybe just subtle variations in song as a whole as it progresses. To make it feel like it is growing and getting even better every moment it moves along. Instead of just the same thing.
I get what you're saying now. Thanks again man!
help me i cannot into song structure how should the track progress from where it now ends [editline]6th October 2011[/editline] fuck the bassline is way too loud
from electro house to dubstep the mix is a little loud and distorted in areas but it's still a wip
Yea make that main synth/noise stand out a bit more. it feels a bit lost in the mix once the drums start. a bit repetitive before that tempo twist :P... also... at first i thought OH GREAT A TEMPO CHANGE lolol but it worked out really well and sounded pretty cool lol ... so maybe just a bit more variation lol :D [editline]6th October 2011[/editline]
I have no idea what im doing. Back to the drawing board, I guess.
I've been toying around a bit and have come up with this, possibly a basis for a new neurofunk track but I really can't decide whether it really sucks or is a good basis for something awesome, any thoughts? Not at all happy with the bass but the drums might be good, I'm not too sure.
Not at all happy with the bass but the drums might be good, I'm not too sure.
Do not EVER cut the snare too short! If you want a glitch effect, use a glitch plugin. The bass is alright, but you really overdid the bitcrushing and reverb effects. I'm not really sure what genre you're going for, but if it's Neurofunk, don't use long notes on the bass. You have to keep it moving otherwise it gets boring very fast. -------------------- Inspired by Buckem's music. The levels may be off a bit, but that's because the headset I use to produce music with broke, and I have to use a shitty one with no bass response :(

Thanks for the feedback, I've still been screwing around with it and I still can't decide whether I like it or not, comments are still appreciated! Added some sort of lead and make the bass better. New drums too. Ignore the arrangement for now, I'm focussing more on the sounds and how well they mesh together and whatnot. I really can't decide whether I like it or not! Tried making Dubstep, kinda lazy with the intro. I need copious amounts of criticism. Also, why did soundcloud make the audio quality a bit distorted?

Especially after the drop.. Maybe I'm crazy but I like it when the bass feels "alive", like it's actively being modulated over time and not just a simple sine LFO.
Listen to Soundcloud recording http://soundcloud.com/souls-at-zero/chug-chug-ch-chug It's an instrumental 8 bit Meshuggahy/Prog Metal song me and a friend have been working on, the actual version ISN'T 8 Bit, but I wanted to see how it'd sound if I ran the midi file through GASHISOFT's 8 Bit Generator, and I think it ended up being pretty cool, any improvements that could be made do tell, It seems too long because it repeats, but with vocals it'd be a lot less noticeable. Also there is a really cool polyrthymic part at 2:46

A lyrical draft. I don't know why but the bridge right now is a rap with the exception of the last stanza. The chorus is that it uses a famous quote, but I'm not too sure I'd consider it a big issue. It isn't like there is any rule against that, and it's not a cliche as far as I'm aware. I may change it anyway though because it might be too telling.
Verse A The brow bleeds sweat as Motions breed fret Overseas and overheads Nothing to get The dust paints the room rust red as Gray thoughts charades depict trust Sensible whims try to Shield from the gust Chorus A There are plans by the many and plans by the few When I make my own, do I ask you? There are plans by the many and plans by the few I ask, who plans for whom? Verse B Those who were to stand have Been disbanded Shackled down by a Misguided hand Mistaking gray for Molding clay Constraints and typical taints Make it through the fray Chorus B There are plans by the many and plans by the few When I make my own, do I ask you? There are plans by the many and plans by the few I ask, who plans for whom? -Instrumental- Verse C Mangled minds try to fix Houses with words from up high Flipping pages scrambling words to Ju-st-i-fy Bridge A The yearning for learning and churning inside can't Help escape the realities of life Theft is not the answer nor is it desirable There are ways to work through that are admirable Look through a mirror through a glass To the past then ask if this a clear way to convey An array of messages to millions with goals All of which can differ as a whole The dirt crumbles beneath the feet where land and Labor are meant to to meet Denying the essential contraction causes Failure where traction is made at a mere fraction Don't look through windows and Assume you know assume you know what's best Don't look windows and You're playing chess Chorus C There are plans by the many and plans by the few When I make my own, do I ask you?
A DnB song I'm working on.
That's pretty cool man! Interesting style, I like the change from drumstep to DnB and the piano. The bass does drive the song but I think it needs some modulation. And the short pads that come in at 1.10 or so are a bit loud/too airy, in my opinion. Update on my DnB song. Fixed the mix and added more, chose to go with whats becoming my classic style of bass too. I'm loving the second drop, getting close to the finishing stages now I think.
Trying to go for a sort of Moombahton style, still working on everything, nothing is final by any means:
My latest beat A track by my man Cyphon, give him a holla And finally a beat by my friend Igor

Either it's the schools headphone or it's lacking a good sub-bass, tho. The second drop is pretty sick too! Or I can't just hear it. Sidechain the kick to the synth a little, I can barely hear it. The synth little too harsh imo [editline]12th October 2011[/editline]
And finally a beat by my friend Igor
The snare sounds horrible, it's way too loud and harsh. I think this is my best one so far. I'm really excited to finish this one!
i made this during a lan party and fixed it when i got back. it turned out kinda digitalism - blitz in a way now that i think about it, but i like that tune  i made it with reason 6 sampling the melody bit in some old trance tune i made
