My band Infelix has some newly engineered demo's, they're still not proffesionally recorded and done by ourselves. But I think we're getting better and better at it. It's actually a pretty work in progress demo, but i couldn't wait any longer putting it online. Hehe. :P (Please watch 1080p!) And this one was uploaded before, but it was poor and crappy quality, the vocals are being redone this week too. Because they were recorded when i was still kinda nervous with people looking at me while singing and everything around me being silent... Myeah. Not at full volume and power. That's why it kinda sucks. But just listen to the awesome instruments then! I'd love to hear what you guys think. We're trying not to be a generic bad metalcore band. We want to mix old school metal with the new metal. Without the screams, since not everyone is into screams/grunts.
I really like the intro riff in Unreachable. Keep going :)
Very nice. Personally, I don't hear much metalcore at all in there, except for maybe the breakdowns, but even that's questionable. (For those who think that breakdowns automatically mean metalcore, please listen to this song.) If nothing else, I get a strong melodeath vibe from your guitar/drum departments. Listening through, I was thinking that you have an awesome intro riff to "Clockworks", but as I progressed, I realized the rest of the riffs were great, too. Then I listened to "Unreachable", and I was like, "Holy shit, orgasmic intro riff." And then it just kept going. And going. And going. I have to admit my favorite part is probably 4:00, all the way to the end, in "Unreachable." To put it simply, your instrumentation through and through is simply amazing. Either one of these tracks would work perfectly fine as an instrumental, in my opinion, and the vocals only add to them. That being said, I did prefer the vocals in "Unreachable" as opposed to "Clockworks," but I'm not sure why. They sound like they're mixed in better, but they also just seem to fit better. Ah well, they're unmastered demos, so I won't pass judgment on either until they're fully ready. All I can say is I really enjoy what you guys are doing, especially in the guitar and drum department - the crunch to those guitars is downright delicious, and your drums provide an amazingly powerful backbone, while shining through on their own without overpowering. I would eagerly jump upon a release if all the tracks were like this. :buddy:
Not my type of music but its pretty good compared to other music of its genre, vocals need more energy
Your guitar tone seems really trebly to me, might want to give it a little more bass or mids. But other than that I like your riffs a lot, the overall feel of the songs is good and the mix is pretty well done (maybe a little less volume on the vox and guitar). The vocalist needs more energy and maybe a little bit of reverb (emphasis on the little) but even with the complaints this is better than a lot of demos I've heard. Keep it up!
Is there any reverb on the vocals? If not, maybe add some. The vocals sound kinda out of place.
We're trying not to be a generic bad metalcore band
Your doing well at that. Gonna echo this, Intro to Unreachable is sex.
Awesome comments guys, really helping us continue and improve. (:
If nothing else, I get a strong melodeath vibe from your guitar/drum departments.
Yeah, and I like it. I was pleasantly surprised to hear clean vocals as well. I'm no expert, but, (no offence) I feel like they could use a bit of work to be a little bit more powerful and perhaps a bit of breath control to stop you pulling up short at the end of a line, which I think I heard once or twice in Unreachable. Generally, however, really quite good.

But I think i'm getting better and better at it, like i said, it's a rather old recording. I think I improved since then.
I don't think the mix was done very well. The instrumentals seem to go decently, but it feels like someone exported that track as an mp3, imported it into audacity, and just sang over that. The vocals could probably sound a lot better and like it goes with some mixing.
I think you should rename your band [editline]09:35PM[/editline] Second song was good, but it needs better vocals
you need to add some god damn reverb to all of your instruments. Any riff you guys aren't playing on the low e sounds like absolute shit and so do the drums. vocalist is pretty fucking shitty. get LOUD instead of just trying to hit the pitches, but some bass into that voice [editline]11:45AM[/editline] the breakdowns are generally awful as well
The Vocals are a bit lacking, try exhaling more when you sing, and of course sing louder and maybe a bit more raspier, try to make it sound aggressive, it's ok to add a few screams once in a while.
That was really good. The drums sound great, and there isn't much wrong with the guitars except maybe adding a little more mids and cutting the treble a bit. Composition wise, it's pretty awesome. I like how you guys are blending styles. Good stuff you have here, just work on the vocals a bit.
Vocals don't seem to fit in on the second song. And they also seem a lot louder than everything else. The music is pretty solid though.

I'm still pretty new to singing and i am improving, if you compare the second song to the first then i'm sure the first one is way better, like i said in the OP I think the second one is shitty too, so please don't look too much at the vocals at that one. I had lots op breathing problems on that song and i was new to recording while everyone's watching. Could say all that a bit more optimistic. ._. Thanks anyway I guess.
The vocals ruined it for me, everything else is awesome
Could you be more specific? As in, what's wrong with them? The mixing? The voice?
These people aren't experts. :frog: I thought the singing wasn't half bad to be honest. It is nice to hear old school elements. I recommend not doing a LOT to the vocals on the track but when your singing it does overtake the track quite a bit, a lot of the instrumentals need to pull through whilst the vocals are kicking in. Just keep doing demos... and keep posting em :v:
I'm sure you've heard this before... but.. vocals need more power!!
These people aren't experts. :frog:
Does that matter anyway?
Yeah but I used power on the Clockworks song, it's just mixed that way that it blends into the music and is less powerfull, for the Unreachable song it's not blended it but it's just an old recording with low volume/not enough power singing. So we'll just work on that and let you guys comment again.

Be it mixed or just vocally.
Yeah but that was about Unreachable, it has very old vocal recordings, ah well. :p
Does that matter anyway?
If people are going to comment on effects and styles, then blaming production on making it bad then yeaahhhhh :smug:
I'm going to state my opinion again, I believe it is the mixing on the vocals that make it so bad. If you paid someone to mix it with the vocals, you shouldn't go back to them.
instrumental is very nice, the vocals only need more power

We did and the guy who engineered it started changing it right away. I'll upload the update when done.
If you ever put this stuff on Itunes I'm so gonna buy it. Having that said, I like it.
