And he really believes in the message Trek was trying to tell.
I'm surprised to agree. He doesn't see like the sort of person who would turn Star Trek into Lost in space. (no pun intended)
First Contact was my favourite Trek movie. I couldn't really get into any of the original series movies or the original series at all for that matter (sorry Spock).
Battlestar Galactica has already ruined Stargate, no need to ruin Star Trek, too.
Minus the shaky camera crap and the 'unable to return thing' it could work. The reason I had the idea was because the EPs with conflict seemed to look more to me and A Mirror Darkly was pretty good. I've finally decided to start watching Star Trek: Voyager. I was skeptical at first about it because I didn't like DS9, but it has become one of my favorite Star Trek series. The Doctor is the best character of the show.
dat jeri ryan
Sky Atlantic are playing Voyager in order Mondays through Fridays. I started watching at episode 9, so I've borrowed the season one boxset to catch up on what I missed. Am I doing anything wrong by watching Voyager first?
http://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/television/star-trek-tv-series-planned-takes-place-voyager.html I so hope this is fucking happening. I quote "The series concept is fully developed, subject to change of course, with a solid 5-7 year series plan, pilot script and a conceptualized finale that intends to define Star Trek for generations, extensive character bios, costume and ship/set designs, and more. This is a drastic departure from the typical 8-10 page treatment of the previously pitched Star Trek series ideas that have not included even a pilot script." They already got it all figured out, hopefully we will see a new Star Trek series within a few years. Even if there is going to be a new cast, I could definetly see a cameo by any of the old cast.
"The series is highly energized with a much younger cast," I don't like the sound of this.
I think that if this was done properly it could be pretty interesting, for example having a younger crew could tend to be more... well, reckless, and as the show progressed, the characters would change over time to a more matured group. I dunno, just throwing out ideas.
It really depends on how much they over emphasize the drama. In SGU it just took over the first season of the show and people got bored and tuned it out before the good writing and interesting bits started to kick in season 2.
I've always found that the endings in both DS9 and Voyager in the last episode are rushed, their not bad, but I always wonder what would happen next, there's so much left to be told. Good example of this are the relaunch novels of Voyager, I would have loved to have seen those in the TV series.
Kinds of sounds like Dawson's Creek in space to me.
Speaking of Dawson's Creek their Series finale was tow parts and the first part was "All Good Thing's...." Heh. I only know that because it Preempted Buffy The Vampire Slayer one time.
As someone who doesn't really like Star Trek (universe is just too.... stylized, or too happy, or just really generic sci-fi, I can't really describe it), I really liked the 2009 Star Trek movie, and First Contact.
Watch DS9 then, its not that happy.
I just don't like the ST universe. My absolute favorite Sci-fi universes are Mass Effect, Foundation, and Star Wars.

You have to remember that it's written to be optimistic, that's the whole idea, but I can't say I watch it for that either, watch mirror universe episodes of Enterprise (In a Mirror, Darkly).
There's a couple of episodes in TNG where the federation is just absolutely corrupt, and I really love that kind of stuff. I think it's really cool that a lot of people in starfleet have this idea that the federation has eradicated all kinds of political corruption that we have now, but really going deep down, it's still shady tactics and controversial decisions being made. Showing that a large portion of starfleet is oblivious to a lot of government dealings is really cool imo [editline]18th October 2011[/editline] so it's not all lollipops and dandelions
I liked DS9 introducing Section 31, showing that the face of the Federation being high and mighty is fake and beneath they are just like any of the other races in their ruthlessness to get something done.
And the Dominion war is really dark. We're talking billions of people dead and Starfleet utterly decimated dark.
Has anyone ever seen these gems? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8aEhtJ-sgg]
Next Gen is awesome:
After watching TNG all the way through and then watching the TNG movies... I have to ask, what the fuck were they thinking with the movies? They ruined everything that made TNG good in the first place!

No, First Contact was pretty awful in hindsight. I mean, unless you look at it as a non-canonical addition to the TNG universe.
Personally, this one is my favorite
the TNG movies were mostly shit but they had a few good moments this makes no sense but it's still pretty cool
Data, I'm your friend, and I'm not going to stand around and let you do this! *sits down*
