My shop's bag :smugdog:
I may have bought records from there before :v:
The webshop is pretty big supposedly, the shop's in Edinburgh
My Mum does estate sales every once and a while for old folks, and every time she cleans out a house she gives me all of the records that were left behind. So I now have about 8 45's, 50 78's (Which includes collections ect. ect.) and around 100 53's. Anyway, we went to a place today and I ended up picking up a shazload of 78's, one of them was a Billie Holiday collection and I'm finding that some of the records stop about 30 seconds before they should be... I have no manual function for my player so I'm not quite sure how to fix this, having Easy living stop 30 seconds too early is really really annoying... So any solutions you guys can think of?
Just started my vinyl collection. Got Tubular Bells and Machine Head.

See if you can configure or switch it off. i got this today, sealed.
yeah that looks like something you would listen to
I've never had a record player with auto-return, is it a more American thing?
I've never had a record player with auto-return, is it a more American thing?
They're pretty much a standard with most conventional record players. Technics pretty much never use auto-return, but most pioneers do. It's usually the belt driven tables that have it.
yeah, mine auto-returns, and surprise surprise it's a belt-driven pioneer
I've got a Thorens and had a Numark, guess it must be a brand thing
I've got a Thorens and had a Numark, guess it must be a brand thing
I got a fully manual Thorens aswell (TD160). Which one do you have?

I don't think describing vinyl as "more realistic" is getting through to many, it just comes off as showy imo. What do others say when people ask why you listen?
I think it's fun and I like the interactivity of it. I also appreciate the large form artwork and any other additional things they come with. Plus I think it sounds nice.

I remember hearing it described somewhere as the difference between driving a manual and driving an automatic. With a manual, you feel more in touch with the car. Automatic can be smoother and easier. They both have perks, but it's all up to personal preference.
and ultimately, manual is better anyway
It's black crack
I don't think describing vinyl as "more realistic" is getting through to many, it just comes off as showy imo. On a good vinyl I can hear deeper basses and higher trebles, very rarely any signs of compression and the individual instruments have much more breathing room between eachother

How about something you'd say to someone with a bit of sense but not overly obsessed.
Can't you just be like "It is fun and I like it." and if they try to argue that than call them dummies.
Update to my vinyl collection from my post on the previous page:

you americans have some really neat things in thrift stores where as we have nothing. I was blown away by a Tom Waits record I found in one, but that's all.
