• Censorship is god damn weird here in China

I always thought to my self back in America "Why are they censoring this? It's obvious what is going on". And then I moved to China. We finally got satellite here, and I've enjoyed the free movies they present but some of my favorite scenes are gone. For example, in The Matrix, every scene where someone is holding a gun to someones face, the gun is blurred out. But if the gun is being used for shooting it isn't. Then I found it even more hilarious when I started to see the scene of the oracle, her cigarette is blurred out when she is smoking it but when it rests in her hand it is completely visible. Asians here smoke like they are on a rollercoster of death, I don't know why they like it so much but seeing how this gets blurred out must be a problem. I mean who would really would watch a movie like this and think to their self "I wonder what she did with that cigarette when she put it to her mouth :downs:" Even alcohol will be blurred out yet I can go to the store and buy some without them even asking for any piece of info of my self and I look young as shit, I'm bad at aging. What I found even more odd is that any scene with tits isn't blurred.. You can see all of nudity. No pointed guns, no cigs, no alcohol, but they keep the nudity. For once, I think censorship got it right, censor things other people shouldn't do, but keep things we have no choice but to keep on our body. Censorship of nudity is about the stupidest thing I've ever seen on TV. But censorship here is the funniest thing I've witnessed living here.
China is god damn weird.
Interesting. Interesting indeed
Why did you move in the first place? I would never move to China.
Why did you move in the first place? I would never move to China.
To go to Hong Kong for college. People really have the wrong mind to think of what it's like here. My dad is the director of innovations for the shoe company Brooks. I know that when I go back to America to live there, I will have a secure job for my career. When I apply for a job in America, I will be looked at more than someone who didn't graduate internationally compared to someone who did graduate in America. It's because we make so much business in China and knowing the country and understanding hard accents is a giant plus for people like me. And also, Hong Kong is NOTHING like China. Hong Kong is like a better New York. It's its own country pretty much. It's my favorite place in the world, officially. The people dress great, the girls are beautiful. A lot of people speak English, more than I imagined.
I wonder if people have dreams of others pointing blurred guns at them. I feel like that much censorship could raise questions in the same category as "Is your 'blue', my 'blue'?" and "What language do others think in?" I say that since I know movies have influenced my dreams before (as have video games) and if I was used to seeing it maybe I'd have a dream like that.. it'd be silly as all hell but I wonder.

I've heard that mainland China is way, way worse than that place. Thanks for clarifying.

It's actually not as terrible as people make it sound. I've really liked it here but Hong Kong is definitely way better.
does Hong Kong follow the same laws, rules and censorship of China itself, considering it was a British Territory not long ago and I heard a deal was met that Hong Kong had some sort of Independence.
does Hong Kong follow the same laws, rules and censorship of China itself, considering it was a British Territory not long ago and I heard a deal was met that Hong Kong had some sort of Independence.
It does not. But drug laws are just the same as China, prison terms. Things are way different, a lot more freedom. You can actually protest and such, like in America.
this... sort of makes sence. it kind of puts a negative thought to smoking. I.E. "Wow, that blurry alcohol totally fucking ruined that scene for me in *blank otherwise great movie*"

Things you shouldn't do are being blurred out and things you can't help to not show are kept. Such as language and skin.

You're talking about censorship in China and the biggest thing you've noticed is blurry guns? Why not the whole "silencing dissent" thing
Yeah Hong Kong is great, thank god they still maintain what sovereignty they have after being handed back to China.
director of innovations for the shoe company
What?

Just asking. If i would put piece of white tape over my penis would i be then free to walk around as nude?
You're talking about censorship in China and the biggest thing you've noticed is blurry guns? Why not the whole "silencing dissent" thing
It's not the biggest, it is just the biggest appealing factor towards a facepunch thread. I haven't had an issue with that yet, so I have not discussed my part. Sorry I'm not trying to break laws to see how far I can go here to compare it to America and post about it on FP?
What?
He thinks ideas for the shoe company Brooks to make products more efficient or cost less on products(He just saved the company 250,000$ might I add), is that hard to understand the word "innovation"?
I would think it was pretty straightforward to make shoes. Does he save money by innovating sweat shops?
I would think it takes money to buy drugs to make a person so stupid. It takes a lot of work to make something, but excuse me, you must be CEO of all human products. All future work must be only conducted in Amerca to be successful :downs:
