Thinking of selling my 50mm Pentax-M f/4 Macro to buy a 50mm Pentax-M f/1.4, thoughts?
Thinking of selling my 50mm Pentax-M f/4 Macro to buy a 50mm Pentax-M f/1.4, thoughts?
how much do you think you'll earn towards the new lens? I think the difference will be staggering in sharpness (just judging by that minimum aperture), though you'll lose the immediate macro ability. What's the macro's minimum focal length? Purchasing a little 3-piece set of macro filters is good enough for the occasional macro, I don't do much close work so I can't really comment on experience with the quality.

Omg! Got a slightly used Nikon d40 (with lens) for 200 pounds! :3 [editline] [/editline] If you weren't aware, most used ones on ebay average at around 250. Some are up to 300.

I was expecting a refurbished camera. Ebay is wonderful.
Just ordered an 8' light stand, 43" umbrella, and a wireless flash trigger kit. Should be arriving in 4~ days
Just got a Sony Nex-3 (The old model) for $399 with the 18-55mm lens. I am having a lot of fun so far :) (Yes, I know it isn't a pro camera/DSLR, but I really like it. Not to mention it has an APS-C sensor anyway.)

I got myself a FD 800mm f5.6 :v:
When i first saw your post, "Only 80mm?" then the image loaded. :v: You probably fixed it when i was typing this though. Heh
Got it lol
god how i would love to strap my nex 5 to that thing. would look so goofy
So what's that 800mm like, B!N4RY? Are you spying on your neighbours?
I'm still waiting for the adapter to come in the mail, actually. But I can't wait to spy on the girl next door :q:
I'm still waiting for the adapter to come in the mail, actually. But I can't wait to spy on the girl next door :q:
what kind of adapter did you get?
what kind of adapter did you get?
The glassless ones by EdMika
oh nice that thing is going to kick ass. can't wait for pictures
Neither can I. Can't wait to slap on two 2x extenders just for the hell of it :v:
began writing a thrifter's guide to buying cameras and getting into photography, and it's expanding rapidly into what I could only assume will become a novel of a blog post or thread. I think it may be worth making it into footnotes for release, and moving to small published e-book or do what the local photographer told me to do and pursue doing small seminars at the local civic center and such. I can tell EVERYBODY about the fun of buying a good handful of 50mm 1.8's! as a side note to the book thing, I'm already in good standing with Focalpress with the book I worked on with my mom. I'd rather it be a local talk or something though, I don't think my experience is quite publishable yet, though I've seen some rather mediocre books on photography in many forms, so I gotta wonder.
if you need any help let me know! i do thrifty camera shopping often so i know what to look for as well
talked a bunch with trogdon on facebook tonight. got into a bit of a side-track with old rangefinders, particularly the Clarus model MS-35 I had picked up at goodwill for ten bucks. [t]http://i56.tinypic.com/2w4zrb8.png[/t] Turns out, the lens on it is apparently rare or something. There's an f/2.8 going for $70 on ebay but I can't for the life of me find anything on mine, which is a solid f/2 [t]http://i56.tinypic.com/2wcogb5.png[/t] I can hold the lens separately and take pictures on my d7000, but because its focal plane is a lot closer to the lens (due to it being meant for a rangefinder, not SLR), I can only get macros with it. f/2 [t]http://i52.tinypic.com/6jpruc.png[/t] f/5.6 [t]http://i55.tinypic.com/2m4w3ua.png[/t] If it's worth something, I'm afraid the price may get a dent in it due to the fact that the lens has been treated like shit. The front element is scratched all to hell, as if it was stored in a bin full of iron wool or something. [t]http://i51.tinypic.com/2ch3sw9.png[/t] Still pretty cool and you can't notice it with an open aperture, but light caught on it seems to be a problem at f/16. [t]http://i51.tinypic.com/2lkwkl0.png[/t] not sure what to think, and google's just turning up a slew of f/2.3 enlargers and f/4.5 135mm lenses when searching for the raptar. The only place I've actually seen the raptar f/2 2INCH(50mm) is in the example picture from my original post about it. Hrm.

Performance should be quite good; at least better than my 600mm f/4.5 because this one has the UD element in it. Yup, i'm jelly
... EDIT: No the 800SSC does not have a UD element in it, it has a element less than the 800L version. Okay, performance should be about the same as my 600mm then. Maybe I will get some better colors out of this lens, but the amount of clarity and CA should be about the same.

But do keep in mind that i don't have that EdMika adapter yet and i am using a converted EF 1.4x teleconverter. So the results i got from the lens were some unsharper than i would use it without the 1.4x extender and just with the edmika adapter.
Guess what Biscuit just got for $460+shipping lol
