ask communistcat it's russian [editline]22nd August 2012[/editline] Facepunch riddle me this, i was taking flash shots of the rain last night in manual exposure settings and getting some cool shots. but when i added a subject to the shot, it turned out entirely different despite retaining the EXACT same settings between the two shots. why does this happen? this is what i'm talking about i wanted the one with all the bokeh thingies to come out with the one of the subject but it didn't work, and i am curious as if there is a reason behind this bizarre phenomena
As far as I know it's circles of confusion. The flash that's hitting the little water droplets are reflecting back into the camera, this will usually happen with straight on flash, but can be avoided without using flash and a longer shutter speed.

I think they are very shy.
Are you using a flash with manual controls? Auto flash settings could be turning down the power when there's something (you) closer, and turning it up when things are farther away.
If I can remember the lecture we had on it, I think it could be the fact that the focus point might be a little different between the two shots unless Trogdon had the lens on manual focus? I'm trying to find this out as well.
Not much substance to this one, just love finding reflected light (the comforter/my face) from strong light sources in otherwise softly lit areas - not just the beams themselves.
Your bed is fucking awesome. I think the lighting is pretty nice in that picture though.

There isn't really a flash setting other than rear curtain on my camera, I just didn't know how automated the flash would be in manual mode, seems to be the right explanation. And for the record that's my brother I'm bald now :P

But I also think that bopie's right.
This may be interesting. The image itself is not special, but what it shows is a holograph of a 3-dimensional box with a interference pattern that me and a friend created. We exposed two scenes (with the box obviously) onto the film through a system of mirrors with a HeNe laser at ~630 nm, which yielded the holograph.
Can you make a hologram of princess leia?
If I still had access to that place.
A few days ago my father told me he had an old camera somewhere, after a couple of hours i found it.

The fact you have a Stanford Dragon is pretty damn cool.
I like the dragon and the b/w allyway. The rest seems like "oh lets point at that" to me.

Took a shot at startrails. Roughly 80 pics at 10s f1.8 each. What you see: two planes, the gaps resulting from the 4 s inbetwee each picture, the stars and their trails, respectively the unclean/very old lens I used giving that gloom AND the last picture taken after I took a step onto the balcony resulting in the camera tilting slightly back and giving that "dot" at the end of the trails. can I ask why you'd do multiple images as opposed to hooking up (or using a wireless) remote shutter and putting it in bulb (leaving shutter open for as long as you want)
Because I live in a city and anything above 15s shows me a lot of light polution, even this image went through a lot of colour correction, sharpening, clarification. I used a "remote shutter" if you want by using Magic Lantern to take a 10s shot every 4 seconds.
If you kept the shutter open for that long you would end up getting artifacts and hot pixels (I believe)
Also that Panda up there, holy fuck! Above: It's not that much of an issue at ISO 100 or 200, I let the camera cool down to outside temp before (about 15 °C) and you can always take a "dark" picture to compensate for noise pretty good. I really just had to work with the lightpolution. It would be even worse if I had anything in forground, everything would look orange.
The fact you have a Stanford Dragon is pretty damn cool.
It was bought for me when I was 10-12 years old, but it was advertised as a Chinese Luck Dragon :v: Then, I learned what it really years later haha
It was bought for me when I was 10-12 years old, but it was advertised as a Chinese Luck Dragon :v: Then, I learned what it really years later haha
I want to buy one made of a translucent material and then fool people in the 3D Art thread into believing it's a render.

Trying to get my head around flash photography, this is my best attempt so far, taking pp inspiration from disposables.
