Well, you don't have much of a choice, sit down and chat with him then.
(Yeah. I don't know why I did that.) They shake their hands and sit down. - I've heard you own some horses. - Six are for sale. Lost my crops because I was sick almost the whole summer. - Do you have more than six? - I have one more, but that isn't for sale... - How about we make a deal... 7th of december seven people will come this way and change their horses to fresh ones and continue their trip. They need seven horses ready. I'll give you 100 dollars here and now if you agree to help them.
Do it, 100 dollars was alot back then.
Wait. Will he leave after payment, or stay with the horses? I say cheat him. Take the hundred dollars, promise that you will get the horses to the people yourself, and then go and take your family to the town. Sell horses to the gentlemen, and then buy a wagon. Then, head out west!
What if we can't get a wagon fast enough? We'll get caught between a rock and a hard place,in this case the rock being the seven people who need fresh horses and the hard place being a whole load of other things that we'll likely get into as a result.
WEll, these 7 people aren't going to be coming for awhile.
Your plan is to cheat the guy, take the money, double it by selling the horses to the gentlemen in town, buy a wagon and look for a better fortune elsewhere. - Yeah. I'll do it. George heads to the town with the horses and goes to the saloon. It's 11 o'clock and you can see it just by looking in the saloon. There seems to be a third guy with the gentlemen. He seems to be Charlie Buck himself! No wonder the horse outside looked familiar.. "Did you change your mind!", he shouts to you.
O_O how the...... anyway thats sorta bad i say we get out of the saloon get to our horses and make a run for it
No, we just went to the saloon with our money. Just say to him, "Na, I gotta pay off some of my drinks to my friends, that's all!" Go and buy a drink for your cousin, and just lounge around. Its fine if we can't cheat the guy, we'll just use our hundred to get a wagon. A 7 horse-carriage is really fast, I heard. If you get what I'm saying. If you don't: leave. Go to the carpenters, ask if they have a carriage for sale.
"Nah, just gotta pay some debts to my cousin. In the form of a whiskey." George pretends to chuckle. George tries to walk past Charlie but he kicks his boot on Georges way. THOMP! - These two fellows here are my friends. Now, my friends told me that you were selling your horses to them earlier this day. (Takes a little break). Unfortunately I have a good sense in these things. You might have fooled any other guy, but not me. Let me ask you this: Did you change your mind or do we have a fucking deal!? (Everyone's silent in the saloon, waiting for your answer.)
Despite the awkward situation,we can still pull off the trick. In a fake panicky voice(just to avoid sounding suspicious, say that you haven't changed your mind and sell the horses to them. Then buy a wagon and get the hell out of there with your family in tow.
You've already made a deal with Charlie that he needs the horses 7th december! If you've changed your mind, then you would be selling the horses to the gentlemen. And Charlie wouldn't like that.
"Look, I can understand the confusion. Here's the story. Before I went back to my house to meet you, I was discussing with these men here about me selling them horses. I said I would bring the horses here, so they could buy them. I went home, and you were there! So, I got my money, I come back for a drink, and you think I'm trying to rip you off? Please, gentlemen, I can understand your confusion, but I was just going to use this money for a drink for me and my cousin over there. Is all understood?" Smile charmingly. EDIT: What was with the break? You left us hanging.

Charlie gives you a break where you start to hesitate what you just said. "Whats with all the horses outside then?" He finally says.
Laugh. "Ah, I can see why you are so suspicious. Well, my horses aren't shoed, (Google horse shoes. Metal half rings to protect their hooves) and I was coming here to see if anyone can shoe them for me. I'm not about to let you ride off for a mile, and then break down due to the horses' discomfort. Is all forgiven? Edit: Since you never provided me with much info about my horses, and I know I'm not the richest man, so I know that they aren't shoed. I couldn't be able to afford it.
"Yeah.. You think you are smarter than me, but you aren't. Sit down for a drink." One of Charlies friends pulls a chair from under the table.
Shrug, sit down.
You shrug and sit down. The pianist starts to play again and you notice it for the first time. Everyone starts to do what ever they were doing. Charlie Buck orders a drink for everyone and they start having fun. They don't pay attention to you, but you follow their actions in silence. The guy with the mustache is pretty quiet and plans something in his mind with a blink of anger in his eye. Charlie and the third guy keeps some big noise and tells each other how they slaughtered the yankees. Charlie Buck seems to be called as Jesse, the man with the mustache Frank and the third guy Cole. They are all strangers to you. The time goes on and the saloon starts to get empty. Jesse, Frank and Cole are getting ready to leave. Do you want to go home or do something first?
Say thanks for the drinks, put a dollar on the table for the drinks (dollar is a lot back then) and bid them good night.
Say thanks for the drinks, put a dollar on the table for the drinks (dollar is a lot back then) and bid them good night.
This then go get a good rifle
This then go get a good rifle
Um...It would be 3 against one. We know Jesse has a revolver. Don't do it, man.
You thank for the drinks, put a dollar on the table and bid them good night. You think about getting a firearm ready. Fortunately, a good old Sharps rifle and Colt army is waiting for you back home with a sufficient amount of cartridges and powder. George isn't as poor as he seems to be. He just had a bad yield and that led him to the lack of food this year (he has inherited the stable from his father.) There's still some wheat in the cellar, but you are not sure if it lasts over the winter for the whole family. You don't have any bigger tasks to do before 7th december. Do you want to skip to that day or do you want to do something before that? 9 days till 7th dec.
You know what? Just wait. I mean, I can see a little plot twist of Jesse coming after us for revenge, and I wouldn't like that. I say we find ourselves some land some distance away. Aren't these men coming with different horses as well, and just switching so as not to kill the horses? I say just wait, use our money wisely, and then use the horses that they dropped off and get a wagon to find some land.
Do something before the alloted time to prepare for challenges ahead.
Do something before the alloted time to prepare for challenges ahead.
What kind of a challenges do you think are coming?
Wait,so what exactly are we planning to do with regards to Charlie and the horses?
Wait,so what exactly are we planning to do with regards to Charlie and the horses?
I say we finish up the deal and use the earned money to move west, maybe up into the Palouse Hills in Washington, since reports of good land there have reached the town.
What kind of a challenges do you think are coming?
I think we might have trouble with some random outlaws, though its improbable.
The above
[Sorry I'm a bit late. I was so tired yesterday and I didn't want to ruin this because of it.] On the following days George cleans his gun entirely, takes some target practice and makes sure that all the horses are in great condition. It's funny that the food does not seem to end. Did George miscalculate so badly? Probably not. On the sixth of december, George's wife, Anna, starts to question her husbands choices. "What if everything doesn't go as planned?" Probably not. 7th december As you see the men coming, as fast as they can, you run to the stables and get all seven horses outside. Only four of them come to you. They seem to have some kind of a sack over their head and holes are cut where the eyes are. "I'll take that black one." You notice Jesse's voice. "Where are the rest?" You ask. One of them jumps on a fresh horse and says to you, "They probably want to celebrate here." They start to spur their new horses and go away. "I heard there were some fine ladies in this house!" Someone shouts. Dang! You forgot your rifle inside, but you have your Colt Army.
Oh god. Looks like being honest won't turn out so great. Get the family back out to the horses, and just see if you can have a look at them. If they aren't armed with too many weapons, take out the people with them with the rifle from inside, and then load if you have time. Once they get within 50 yards, use your pistol.
