Whenever I'm down in Vancouver I walk the blocks on Downtown Hastings. Sometimes the homeless and crackheads find some great stuff. Anyways I finally spotted a flip clock radio that didn't look like it was going to be too expensive. Unfortunately the guy was in the middle of a drug overdose so obviously he couldn't really sell me it and either his girlfriend or the lady a rug over wouldn't take the money for him and asked me and a few others to clear out as the ambulance pulled up. :(
That's a joke right.
I don't think I've dumpster dived in a while. Everyone locks their shit up now. I've found more cool stuff out in the woods then anywhere else.
Yeah, there's a Coca-Cola fridge out in the woods where I used to live that I'd love to take, but there's not really a good way of getting it out, considering it's halfway down a hill. Don't know what I'd do with it, either. [t]http://i.imgur.com/dOwQdYf.jpg[/t]

I'm not sure, the seller said he'd make it right and is in contact with FedEx. hoping he refunds me the item+shipping you know it's not like they make these things anymore, I can't just get another, pisses me off. the fuck do I pay a shipping company for if they aren't gonna be careful with my shit? I might as well pay some hobo to cross country it in a shopping cart. I will never use fedex again, ever.

I bought these tubes on a whim today but have never dealt with them. Does anyone have suggestions on where to start with identifying them and checking that they're good?

Not 100% of the time, but you can bet that if the box says "FRAGILE" on it, it'll have at least a dent in the side of it.
That's a joke right.
No, that's East Hastings unfortunately.
That's a joke right.
Nope. This is literally a thing to find crackheads along the streets at just about any hour trying to sell everything from dumpster dived cell phone chargers to obviously shoplifted name brand perfumes and food. Great place to find cool gems for cheap but keep in mind where some of this might of come from. When you see a guy fondling a crack pipe while trying to sell bags of jerky out of a loaded shopping basket, keep moving. I've seen worse and it looks like you just had your front beat up. Super glue will fix that.
Does anyone have suggestions on where to start with identifying them and checking that they're good?
The tube model is printed on the carton and on the tube. For example I can see a 6GH8A. As for testing them you need a tube tester. Usually however when you get tubes in their boxes if the getter has not turned white the tube is probably good.

Super glue will fix that.
I removed the faceplate completely and was pressing the buttons behind the panel. Eject, play, etc. all did nothing. The disc set light continued flashing even after removing the disc manually, so something was ajar enough that it couldn't even tell that it didn't have a disc loaded. Whenever powering it on it would briefly make a grinding sound then do nothing. I think a screw from the faceplate got into it and bridged something so when I powered it on it shorted out the circuitboard for the controls. I think. I don't know - all I know is it doesn't work and even if I knew what was wrong with it I don't have the ability to repair it so tearing it apart to find out is a waste of time.

There's $30 for you.
Please don't price your shit from ebay no one's going to BUY 1 ALBUM FOR 85 GOD DAMN DOLLARS
It's even better when they have awesome shit piling up and it's just not selling because his prices suck and he doesn't do bargaining at all. I've had shit sit in fucking windows for months or even years because asshole wouldn't be sensible with the price, worse yet when it's one of those places crammed to the rafters with stuff but the door is always locked, he's never there on the days the sign says or if you want in you gotta call a number written on cardboard and taped to the window.

Once stopped at a garage sale on a 105 degree day and the wife had put all the husband's rockroll records out in a plastic bin in the sun right next to a big ass mirror. Probably a good 3-400 dollars worth of great classic rock pretty much turned into music soup, I doubt any of those records were playable but in hindsight I should've explained it and offered her $5 for the lot of them.
you should have seen my uncle's records the Connecticut Heat does not like records I only managed to save three
When it comes to warped records I just use two squares of glass and a weight. A few hours in the sun followed by another hour in the shade and nearly all the warbling is removed. My Learn To Disco was especially badly warped when I got it and now I used it every weekend to practice my moves.
My dad would have done that with his post windows but one of them broke a long time ago
does it count as thrifting when things appear out of thin air? [t]http://i.imgur.com/tSIwodWg.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/dd01qHy.jpg[/t] i found this old chinese coin in my coin box like 4 years ago and was never able to learn anything about it. i don't even know where i got it, i don't remember acquiring it. posted it on /r/whatisthisthing today and got an answer in 20 minutes. it's a commemorative coin distributed to guests at the wedding of the last Chinese emperor in 1921... so that's kinda cool. i have no idea of its value but slightly later coins referencing the wedding are running between 200 and 350 dollars, so probably around there. will probably fund a laserdisc player.
:garryspin: -keyboard pics- found some gold today boys (The keycaps are worth about 80-100 usd)
Got around to building a board for these. Most of the parts came from a seperate board that I got for pretty much free. I just had to buy a case and a pcb. [t]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Clq3R-zXIAAaNxg.jpg:large[/t]
sorry i keep upsetting you pentium i'll try harder to please you next time i find a cool thrift store thing
I have....problems....with people who masturbate over keyboards. They have literally...interfered...with my line of work. Anyways, I bought some records today. $2 each! I also found The Perfect Alarm Clock. It's something so fucking hard to find on an alarm clock these days I have never seen it unless it was some tacky hipster clock and even then the clock was so cheaply built it was shit in some other way. [sp]Only the SNOOZE button is on the top. All the other buttons are hidden at the back of the clock where you can't blindly press them while trying to hit the snooze button.[/sp] It was also $2.
My flip clock has an alarm setting. This is great, but you can only set it for one of 12 hours and it doesn't differentiate between AM and PM, so it goes off twice a day. There is no snooze button and the alarm is utter ear-rape. This wouldn't be that big of a deal, except the switch to turn it off is on the back. It's a one-two fuck-you from General Electrics and I love it.
i've always wanted a flip clock
I have....problems....with people who masturbate over keyboards. They have literally...interfered...with my line of work.
oh man people have hobbies and like things no body is allowed to like anything! is your line of work IT/networking? it's weird that people who live in front of a computer like keyboards right?? don't you live in a little hole full of oscilloscopes or something?
