Soul music is the best . This is by far one of the best soul jams I've found in a while .
If you talked a little more about the things you look for in music, then you'd be happier to discuss.
There is not much I can say, I enjoy hearing drums (real or done by computer) in a fast pace or at least some sort of rythm, most sound produced by any type of guitar I find horrible, I have mixed feelings about vocals, I don't like it when music goes too slow that is pretty much what I look for when finding new music and the more 'modern' songs fit these things while the more 'old' songs don't. maybe that clears it up

It's a style that is forever mesmorising to hear. You'd like Sly and the Family Stone.
Not one note wasted . Too many musicians over-play . I've been digging for good soul music online for years . I've found a lot of good stuff . My teacher at school actually was the co-producer on Stand.
My teacher at school actually was the co-producer on Stand.
Huh, how's that even fair? :v: So I'm guessing to know artists like Baby Huey, Millie Jackson, Funkadelic and Stevie Wonder? What was it like being taught by him?

Don Puluse is his name and he's a great man . He worked with Miles Davis too and he had this funny story about him . He said that Miles hated him at first because he had a white-boy afro and Miles was bald . Apparently, Miles was pretty insecure about his hair back then .
Dammit, you kill me with all these connections. And here's me being happy to get a youtube comment reply from Marvin Gaye's bassist. :v:
This generation makes shit music. I was listening to the radio and the song "Just the Way You Are" by Bruno Mars came on. Afterwards, the radio host said that the song was originally ASSIGNED to Cee Lo Green but he didn't want it so Mars took it. This is the kind of musical world we live in, where some asshat strings together cliche lyrical shit and ASSIGNS it to an artist. What happened to actual emotion and work put into music? There's no emotion or work involved singing a fucking song someone else came up with. It just goes to show how stupid our generation has become and how the big corporate assholes know exactly how to fuck us in the asshole and exactly how to appeal to this brainwashed generation with cliche overused lyrics and with the same fucking musical structures over and over and over.
this has been happening since the beginning of pop music, jesus. it was pretty much all that happened until the 60s came around.
Define shit music ?
Skrillex
My whole take on this thread: AK'z doesn't understand english all too well or is just a sperg
Skrillex
Skrillex makes some very, very good music, it's his fans that are idiots.
My whole take on this thread: AK'z doesn't understand english all too well or is just a sperg
He takes things out of context. [editline]29th February 2012[/editline]
Skrillex
Any particular reason why you think he makes shit music?
My whole take on this thread: AK'z doesn't understand english all too well or is just a sperg
Well if someone brings an actual arguement to this thread, then I'll be happy.
Well if someone brings an actual arguement to this thread, then I'll be happy.
People need to get it through their heads that just because they don't enjoy something, doesn't mean it's bad.
People need to get it through their heads that just because they don't enjoy something, doesn't mean it's bad.
And how about 'everyone has their own opinion, yours isn't any better'?
And how about 'everyone has their own opinion, yours isn't any better'?
statingtheobvious.org You see, by absorbing different personalities, it will enable to feel other people's pain to express through music.
People don't look hard enough but the imposed mainstream is also really shitty I mean, the mainstream back then was the good stuff, and then you had the bad stuff and some even better stuff buried. Now you have to dig to get to anything passable. That also applies to films and videogames.
statingtheobvious.org You see, by absorbing different personalities, it will enable to feel other people's pain to express through music.
maybe if actually read some posts on the previous page and the one before that, you'd understand what I am getting at as well
maybe if actually read some posts on the previous page and the one before that, you'd understand what I am getting at as well
I get a sense that you're happy with what you enjoy now, but are angry at the ones who tell you are inferior because of that. I'm not too sure what you look for in music still because you were a little vague. But what I'm sure of is that you aren't up for a change.
Metal is still going strong tbh, so long as you ignore deathcore and djent
Music in this generation, for the most part, has no logic or actual musicality put into it at all. Let's look at something like this: Name one contemporary piece that can compare to logic of this. Everything Bach, and other composers of their generations wrote took time, patience, and logic. Nowadays, musicians can rely on electronics to hide their 'talent' and to create nice beats for them in a few weeks. Everything musicians did in the past was constructed with every brick in the right spot. Granted Bach did have to hand-write all his pieces, but the actual performance base of the music relied on everyone's cooperation to know their part perfectly.
lol? [editline]29th February 2012[/editline] quality thread
Music and logic nowadays are going down the drain. Most people ignore rules and just plop notes on a page and experiment with how things sound and just go for it. Classical masterminds crafted their music with great, incomparable precision.
This perfectionism (I don't think this so called "perfectionism" was as important as you're making it out to be) is exactly what makes classical music so insipid to me. To me, the most interesting and enjoyable music is when not everything is perfect, but instead you can hear that the musicians are experiment, trying to out something new and aren't afraid of not doing everything perfectly. The excitement comes from the openness and liveliness, making it very easy for me to connect to it. Obviously, basic musical qualities like rhythm, melody, funk etc. is important, but it's the combination of that and experimentation which I value so highly. Most people probably would not agree with what I just tried to describe, and that is my point: coming up with such a dogmatic explanation as to why certain music is better is just idiotic and useless when someone can have a completely different opinion on what makes good music. I'm not saying you shouldn't argue why some music is "better" than other music, because that would be boring, but you have to keep in mind that not everyone has the same underlying view on music because of varying opinions and experience with music.
Most people ignore rules and just plop notes on a page and experiment with how things sound and just go for it. [editline]1st March 2012[/editline] shit and my avatar is a math rock band lol, slightly hypocritical okay there is a blurred line i guess. i still argue that you can define characteristics between musical genres and eras, but in the end it's all arranged sound one way or another. [editline]1st March 2012[/editline] nothing against classical or perfectionist music, but i don't discredit someone for aiming for a sound rather than immaculate construction

Whenever I use an argument like that to explain why I like certain music, I look through what I listen to and find out 50% of it goes against the point I just made, making it seem useless. [editline]1st March 2012[/editline]
nothing against classical or perfectionist music, but i don't discredit someone for aiming for a sound rather than immaculate construction
I'm not an expert, but I don't think classical necessarily means it's perfectionism. What I've heard from some musician friends of mine is that there can be a lot of improvisation involved either in the creation or the performance of classical music, while other classical music has absolutely no improvisation. I think what you can deduct from this is that classical music can be just as varied as modern music, it's just harder to notice since you haven't listened so much to it. As an example, I know a guy who has played classical piano for years, and he hates any form of improvising.
That post was 2 weeks ago.
doesn't stop it from being relevant to the thread.
That's because it was posted in the thread.
Skrillex
Suddenly opinions. [editline]1st March 2012[/editline] Really this thread should die, it's frankly a god awful thread that's gonna repeat itself over and over with people claiming their opinions are better than each others and that will get mildly interrupted when someone comes in and goes "NO THIS GENERATIONS MUSIC IS TERRIBLE LISTEN TO THE RADIO YOU WILL SEE IT'S ALL GOD AWFUL AND TERRIBAD!"
