He's dead, all we lost was the left foot of a crappy dwarf and 2 migrants! Now there's 187 mosquitos. Oh god, we're sealed in, and have wood, but it's slowing FPS to 6.
Mass produce iron weapons, recruit all the dwarfs in a huge mob, charge the mosquitoes head on. Heck by now the dwarfs should even have the number advantage. Too bad it would end in a tantrum spiral, because it would be awesome.
I'm starting to suspect that the main blacksmith is dead, as I've not noticed him make anything for 3 months. Then again, that's the duration it takes for a mason to make a fucking table on this fort! (it's glorious) Er nope, he's definitely alive, just a lazy dumbfuck. 4 FPS. It's taking miners around 30 seconds to mine a rock.
Truly, these mosquitoes are both a blessing and a curse. they'll deal with any threats, but they murder the framerate
They also crashed it, I only lost autumn to late summer, so hopefully I'll make the whole year and pass it on by 3pm or so. Not much going on, I'm just trying to boost alcohol production, and see what I can do with metal production, but the dwarfs are doing next to nothing, it seems :v: Also, there's a load of unhappy dwarves, this might not turn out well!

Lock some happy dwarves who don't have many friends in a small section with an own little farm and water supply. That way if a tantrum spiral starts, at least those few will live to repopulate the fortress.
I've designated orders, but the miners are a tad lethargic. It should work, though, as there is little to no chance of immediate dorf death, so they should be happy for a few months at least.
Fun fact: There are 2 dead legendary miners floating in the cisterns. If you have ghost problems, that's why.
Solved them already, there are two slabs set up. I'm trying to get a slab for a stupid dead kid, but the masons are so slow! I've just done the maths. At 100 FPS average, a fort will take an hour a year. At 4FPS, 25 hours a year :v: I'm going to disable weather and temperature, for now at least, as this is too slow to play. I'm sorry, that only increased FPS to 5. I'm going to have to forfeit my turn, you can continue with the last one if you want, or if not, here's late summer on my one. I've managed to get some wood, kill the titan and get some booze. You might want to re-enable temp and weather in the ini, they only increased FPS to 5, it's those damn mosquitos! http://www.mediafire.com/?0g76eagm1fc1zs2 Sorry guys :c
Will have to do an emergency fix, edit the raws so all the giant mosquitoes die instantly. No other way to continue, really. Downloading now.

The giant mosquitoes exploded into a fine pink mist. FPS suddenly went up to playable levels. I'm not using the tileset, so there are some strange visual errors like sand being Äs and trees looking like levers, but it's better than the tileset still. [editline]18th February 2012[/editline] So many unhappy dwarves. A tantrum spiral is inevitably approaching.

Why the hell was there a dwarven child with an iron battle axe outside? He got snatched up by a goblin. How was he using that thing? [editline]18th February 2012[/editline]
Have you converted the saves back?
What do you mean?

But can they be used to convert it back? [editline]18th February 2012[/editline] Jesus christ, some previous ruler has ordered hundreds of stones dumped from spot X to the other side of the fort, and the only way to the dumps is a one tile wide corridor that is now packed with a hundred dwarves trying to push past eachother and nothing is being accomplished There's more important shit to be done than to mass dump stone right now so I ordered them to dump no more
LNP could do it if I remember correctly.
FPS is still around 20 even with the dead mosquitoes, I suppose the fact that there are 226 dwarves and all of them are still hauling their last stones is causing it. I recommend capping dwarves at 120 in the next succession fort, and cap children to 30. [editline]18th February 2012[/editline] This is seriously unplayable with this fps

Human caravan arrived, got ambushed by goblins. Every single human died to a brain hit >:I
I already said I'm thick, so surely you can stop ragging on about how thick I am.
I have a feeling that what will ultimately be the end of this fortress will not be a siege, starvation, dwarven temper or someone puncturing the circus, but the absurdly low FPS. That and the saves are slowly but surely dying.

Think we should call it a loss and try again after a few bugfixes? Preferably with a popcap of 150 or so. I never expected such bad FPS issues, processor priority was on realtime, and I had a whole core allocated. I know my machine's pretty average, but still!
I'm finding it hard to continue even now, the lag is just insane. Maybe someone else could try going forward from terminutter's save?
It took like 15 seconds for a miner to dig out a single square for me, and I'm on an i5 2500k (and that was with 170 dwarfs, they are probably a lot more now). That and the saves are dying. Maybe it would be best to do what Termi suggested, start anew, this time we think it through very well before starting. We need your fix, someone needs to fix the mosquitoes and we could use Masterwork for some things (we could disable everything in Masterwork except some of the lag-relief, that way it'd be like vanilla, only with less lag). Giant Mosquitos were fixed in the version released on the 18th, traders now bring wagons, mouse designations are fixed, and truetype is enabled by F12. Just need Orkel's fix and maybe a masterwork version to help, but I believe that the lack of corpses in masterwork makes zombies non-existant.

Doctor, do we have a pulse?
Doctor, do we have a pulse?
We do, but it's too slow to live.
I may have found a solution to our bug problem: in the raw creature_bug_slug_new, search for mosquito. Find it and set population cap to 10:30 and the cluster number to 1:3
So, anything new?
