After the recent... impeachment of our previous mayor, following what can best be described as late birth control, we decided to draw straws over who the task of administrator of this lovely little place would fall too.
I drew the short straw.
8th Granite, 258
Wandered into the stockpiles today, noticed we were awfully low on booze.
Had a fair few more produced.
In order to keep the miners busy and away from the dwarves without great big pickaxes, I've set them to construct something.
(A rough sketch of something lies on the page)
What it shall be used to power... we'll see when the time comes.

Recently received reports of a bizarre feathered, fire-breathing caterpillar.
Considering what other horrors have clawed their way from the caverns, I'm sending the militia after the beast.
Upon hearing the call, the soldier known as 'dogchow' went berserk.
In the barracks.
He was put down fairly quickly, before he could harm anyone.
Tis' a shame a brave militia dwarf was lost to madness, but such is life.
They slew the creature, but several burns due to the fire-breathey-ness did arise, otherwise, no incident.
SHUT THE FUCK UP SNEEZY NO-ONE CARES
I've had it with these ghosts.
I'm having some memorials to them created, seeing as no-one wants to entomb them or find their fucking bodies.
I was also informed today, that as our interim mayor, I must make mandates.
Decided to ban exporting quivers, because we don't export quivers.
Work on the Device continues slowly, due to the miners' pre-occupation with a million other jobs in this sprawling madhouse.
On the upside, Sneezy finally shut up.
The ghosts are also complete tossers, knocking over furniture.
Decided to seal the gap in our defenses.
after this, anything that wants to get in will have to go across one of the bridges, or fly.
Or jump across.
Probably not completely secure, then.
But it's a start.
Decided to pin all the cold cases on that wretched vampire.
Because he probably did them.
Sneezy broke a bridge and punched a bunch of people.
Might see if I can stick a murder on him.
nothing that a bit of drainage can't fix.
The drink problem still hasn't been addressed.
Mainly due to the fact that we have a single brewer available at any given time.
Made our best brewers dedicated to brewing only.
With any luck, that should address the matter.
Filled in a hole leading to the caverns, should prevent more troglodyte incursions.
One of the children woke up screaming something incomprehensible in someone else's voice before rushing off to a workshop.
on a side note, I've had to wall off the smelters to prevent the magma cooling.
And the elven caravan has arrived.
The little crazy tit has finally started working on... something, i guess.
Yet more ghosts have risen.
Miners still slacking on Device.
Sneezy Still irritating.
How do you mortally wound a ghost?
The miners have finally finished excavating the Device.
Now to fill & fit it.
Oh, and the broker's still asleep, despite the caravan.
And that's it for spring, will do summer and whatnot tomorrow.
If trojanfailure is a randomly generated name, that is hilarious.
The mortal wounding of a ghost with a spear. :v:
Maybe the game means before he became a ghost?
Time to do summer and such.
In order to save on journal space, I will create new entries monthly, as opposed to whenever.
Despite his being a murderous vampire and still imprisoned, Deathdoom was voted mayor again.
As the Device approaches completion, thoughts as to a use swim throughout my mind.
Most of them involving magma.
I think I have an idea.
Using a minecart to draw magma from the pipe near the underground fort, bringing it to the cistern.
Nothing much happened this month.
Plans moving towards completion, miners slacking, Sneezy not shutting up.
The Device is finished.
It shall power the Automated Repeating Magma Obtaining Kart system.
Producing 2600 power, it should be more than enough to power the rails.
My plan to be rid of that loudmouth once and for all is nearing completion.

I named all of the children equally appropriate names during my turn because fuck children.
Have fun when a building destroyer gets into that doom machine. I had that happen to a magma pump fail-safe once. It was a pretty bad idea to have the fail-safe be dependent on power, in hindsight. I think the flaming, melting mass of dwarves that died though it was a bad idea too.
Not going to be able to do anything tonight, far too tired.
Also, i'm not using a pumpstack.
That would be far too simple.
If trojanfailure is a randomly generated name, that is hilarious.
I wonder if that had anything to do with our baby overload?
Just a question but is there a dorf with my name in the fortress?
I'll update later tonight, just going to eat dinner and such first.
nope, no dwarves called drugunit.
Work progresses steadily for the main cistern for the A.R.M.O.K system.
Soon, the upper levels of the fortress will be [del]filled with[/del] able to use a large supply of magma.
This should speed up the metal industry significantly.
And get rid of certain... elements within the fortress.
Which reminds me, I haven't heard anything from that loudmouthed goon for some time.
The fortress is swarming with dogs.
At least we have food for all time.
Another has been acting strange recently:
Here's hoping something good comes out of it and nothing gets lopped off.
Grabbing a single rough purple spinel, he started working.
Our militia should bathe more often.
All i'm going to be able to do tonight, sorry.
Will do the rest tomorrow.
Apologies for the lack of updates, been really busy with uni.
has lightened up this week, so i should be able to finish this weekend.

I'm wondering, what kind of defenses do we have to speak of?
I don't remember anyone saying what happened during sieges. Traps? Numbers? Lava?
We have walls and a few marksdwarves and soldiers. I think I created a new squad or two in my turn. Tbh, I think that our site is goblin inaccessible as we should have had a siege by now, pop is way over the threshold as is wealth.
Well, we haven't had any snatchers either.
It's fairly safe to assume beasts and kobolds are our only real threats from outside.
in essence, we are our own worst enemy.
Any ideas when the last one will be finished? Wanna see if that device'll be used or not.

After my turn we had 3 full military squads, 1 marksdwarf and 2 melee, along with a number of traps set up at the above-ground entrance and the below-ground entrance, as well as fortifications in those areas.

I posted it in my report, here's the military roster
HOLD ONTO YOUR ASSES, GENTLEMEN
I'm gonna do an update.
Work steadily continues on the A.R.M.O.K
With any luck, it shall be finished before the end of the year.
I have noted minor logistical problems with ensuring that the device functions correctly, and fully intend to right them this month.
As such, i have ordered a fair few iron mechanisms and floodgates be constructed, both for current construction, and future use.
The fortresses' population grows every month, the constant stream of births is continuing as expected.
Another beast has shown up below the fortress, by the miner's accounts.
It shouldn't be able to work it's way in, so it can rot down there for all I care.
Miniature versions of The Device will be utilised to power the rollers for filling the minecarts.
One of the trainers has been killed by the wild creatures of the caverns.
Here's hoping no-one liked him that much.
Sorry, but that's going to be it for tonight, will do the rest tomorrow, after I do my uni work.
MY ASS IS BEING HELD

I love dwarf Fortress

Question is, does it breathe fire, or is it burning?
I went for the breathing fire, prepare for some shockingly awful mspaint work.
Maybe it'd have a trail of fire, instead of the normal slime trail slugs leave?
Maybe it did a Dethklok and ejaculates fire?
It breathes fire, nothing around it is on fire yet, so that's safe to assume.
Deepest apologies for the lack of anything, but been absolutely swamped, got three assignments to hand in this week, but that's about it until January, so should be able to update this weekend.
Once again, a thousand apologies, the only appropriate course of action is magmatic seppuku after my turn.
10 days per person, huh?
10 days per person, huh?
I guess, but he's got all but one thing done. I sure hope pokey's not too busy, but I'm sure it won't be long
It really seems like militia need to wash more.
The creature that arrived eariler in the year, Xan, has found a way in.
a short while after, it was slain by kogan, one of our marksdwarves.
The beast took the lives of 7 dwarves.
It also evaporated some of our best beer.
A funeral will be taking place later, for the lost beer.
A section of the caverns was also set ablaze by one of the stray fireballs.
probably won't be a problem.
Finally, the first good news this month, the caravan from the mountain homes has arrived.
We traded some of out excess food for alcohol, empty barrels, buckets and a pick.
The magma collection area of the A.R.M.O.K is about to be filled.
Sadly, this requires the almost certain demise of a dwarf.
The dwarf known as "Lore" drew the short straw on this task.
He [del]probably won't[/del] will be missed.
Lore seems to have run off somewhere, so it'll have to be someone else.
And Sneezy appears to have shown up again.
I could have sworn he was dead, or was that sleepy?
Anyway, he's going to break the seal and fill the collection area.
We probably need the last few months pretty soon, and how'd he become an Animaldwarf?
The collection area is finally filling, after both Sneezy and Lore decided to elf out on the projec-
A miner just burst into my office, jabbering about adamantine.
I suspected at first that they'd hit a gas pocket and he was hallucinating or something similar.
Turns out he wasn't.
It's around about there, just north of the magma pipe, for future reference.
This discovery happened the same time as the opening of the magma intake of the A.R.M.O.K system.
perhaps this is a sign of the prosperity this device shall bring?
While the device is not yet operational, it is nearly there.
Another of the children has started acting strange, possibly inspired by the recent discovery of adamantine.
Let's hope something useful comes out of it.
The child grabbed a craftsdwarf workshop.
And promptly began assembling... whatever it was he wanted to build.
and he finished.
Pretty, but useless. At least he'll be a great stonecrafter when he grows up.
Aside from the projected development of the A.R.M.O.K system, I doubt much interesting will happen this month.
Due to the lackadaisical attitudes of the animal trainers, most of the trained animals are wild again.
Sorting this out really isn't on my priorities list, so that's a problem for another day.
A gang (gaggle?, bunch?) of cave blobs rolled through the caves, and made a mess.
the area was sealed off, so a mess is all they can make.
A thing happened.
a roving pack of dogs chased it off.
And so, my year's work comes to a close.
I can only hope that my successor continues my work.
Here you go, next guy.
I hope you left a text file with detailed instructions on how to complete the ARMOK for the next guy...
NEXT GUY: FINISH MY UNDERGROUND FORTRESS
