Today I was playing Quake 2 on my laptop during lunch, so many stupid consolefags kept insulting it's "graphix."
One time I was playing OpenArena in one of the rare times the computer lab was open, and while it gathered a small crowd, half of them were going "why does it look so bad? call of duty is better." I turned around and ranted at them about how this game was better than anything they'd ever play on their xboxes. Then, I switched over to Nethack, just to spite them.
Might do that, if I ever get around to clearing enough HDD space for it. Fucking 250gb hard drives...
lol 250GB worst thing is I'm filling this up incredibly fast, give me space and I will use it
You call that a e-penis?

If my laptop didn't have heat issues I could have loaded the full version of Q3 on there and watched people go "HOW'D YOU GET THAT MAP AND THAT PLAYERMODEL?!", mixed with the occasional "why are you playing a girl playermodel? :v:"
I have the same problem.. I have 2 1.5 TB drives and they're both 98% full :saddowns:
I guess it's just a case of adapting to what you have available. For example my Eee PC 701 has a 4GB HDD and I can use that just fine.
I've got 14gb left of a 1TB drive, but what's worse is that I'm going to fill it up in the next couple months due to game releases and I don't have enough dosh to pay for a new drive heck my NAS has a 1TB drive in it but that's only got 272mb left

I don't see how you guys keep over a couple hundred gigs in use at one time. Even with all the games I play even occasionally installed, plus all my school work etc I use around 100 gigs. Then again, I don't save loads of pictures either.
I wish I could get my friend to post a screenshot of his computer folder. He buys about a terabyte each month, he's up to about 45 now. And they're all full.

Stuff can add up quite a bit :3: [editline]28th May 2011[/editline]
I wish I could get my friend to post a screenshot of his computer folder. Friend on Steam was asking why his new computer was lagging after a week of use. After suggesting a few things, he says this:
[redacted]: wait [redacted]: does it have anything to do with th fact that I usually keep open roughly 250 tabs in firefox? GhostSonic: yes GhostSonic: why [redacted]: I might have a video i want to watch later in 1 tab [redacted]: or a site i want to go to
My hard drive contents: The entire drive is 226GB. 212GB are used. Although I'll be able to cut that a bit, soon - I spotted quite a few things I don't want. For instance, Steam keeps downloading the TF2 .gcfs, which I never need - I quit TF2 over a year ago, never had the urge to play since. That's a good 7GB of space cleared. And I can move NGE back to my external drive for another 8. And move my porn back to my dedicated porn server, once I get it working again (salvaged a bigger drive, in the process of moving everything over), which will give me, well, between 3 and 9gb, depending on how much I move. Other than that, though, I desperately need more space. Hopefully, I'll be getting an internship soon, and hopefully it's paid, so I can actually start buying things again. [editline]27th May 2011[/editline] Also, why the fuck is the Windows logs directory full of files from Dec 31, 1969 (7:00AM)? And for that matter, why do I have several files from Mar 18, 2017 (10:47AM)?
The IT guy from my dad's school is helping me build my PC, and he is a really nice guy. However, he insists that I have to get a solid state drive. I'm already near at budget, and I have said that I want to get one later, but not now because of the cost of a SSD, yet he keeps on telling me I have to get one. To make matters worse, my father pretty much is making me do everything he suggests , which is a good thing, as his advice has been great, other than this.
Depends what your budget is if it's a good buy
I know that, and I do want to get one. The problem is is that with a SSD I would be at least $100 over my budget ($1650), which would cut into my budget for monitor, speaker, keyboard, mouse, etc. If this were not the case, I would definitely get one. To get one I would have to get less powerful parts for the rest of my build, which I would rather not do. EDIT: This is my current parts list, with a low cost SSD included.
Skimp on the speakers, keyboard and mouse. How much are you spending each, specifically?

As high as 100x, in some cases. * You literally cannot get beyond a certain size of SSD. If you spend thousands of dollars, you can get a 1TB SSD. Beyond that, you literally cannot get a bigger one. Meanwhile, 3TB hard drives are plentiful. * On non-mobile systems, the reliability of SSDs is no greater than a HDD - potentially less, if they're heavily rewritten. * You can always add an SSD later for OS/programs, which will give you the speed benefit of an SSD without the size limit. * SSD prices are expected to drop significantly over the coming years. You'll probably see 500gb SSDs for under $200 within a few years (currently, they cost upwards of $800).
I cannot overstate how great getting an SSD was for me. What is the full build?

And an SSD wouldn't be a bad idea if you already have a HDD in the computer. It's only having exclusively an SSD that's a moronic idea.
You could probably skimp on the speakers, and next big purchase get a good sound system to connect to your computer.

I was looking at a Logitech MX518, which is about $40 now. What would you recommend that would be good for gaming less than that? Also, sorry that I didn't clarify what I meant. He wants me to get a SSD as well as a HDD. He doesn't want me to just get a huge capacity SSD instead of a HDD. [editline]27th May 2011[/editline]
You could probably skimp on the speakers, and next big purchase get a good sound system to connect to your computer.
I might as well do this too. Do you have any recommendations for good speakers under $60?
Also, sorry that I didn't clarify what I meant. He wants me to get a SSD as well as a HDD. He doesn't want me to just get a huge capacity SSD instead of a HDD.
Ah. Depending on how big your budget it, that's more understandable. What kind of hard drive are you getting/what kind of budget are you working with?
Ah. Depending on how big your budget it, that's more understandable. What kind of hard drive are you getting/what kind of budget are you working with?
I am getting a Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB, and my total budget is about $1650 dollars, excluding monitor, speakers, etc. Without a SSD, I was at about $1630.
But that would be a new connector. Right now, you can go into any electronics store and buy accessories for the dock connector. Creating a new one would render all of these accessories useless. It's certainly not a standard, though it's popular enough that it doesn't matter.
Yes, it would be a new connector, that means Apple releases a new product and new accessories, more people have to buy the new accessories to replace their old ones and eventually it ends in much more profit for Apple.
But I might want to replay those games (one day)!
Have whatever you don't play often uninstalled, than reinstall for play. It's easy if you don't have any download caps like I do here in the states. :c00lbert:
Damn you Garry! :argh: A couple of friends and I are having troubles connecting to servers. We crash RIGHT after the "sending client info" bit. Only on some servers though. For some reason it fixes after said server(s) are restarted. We have no idea what's causing it or why. The dumps site for crash dumps is offline so we can't check either.
