Mantle has been confirmed to work on Nvidia cards but only if they would add support of mantle to itself. Which means you're right in that its not usable on them yet. And yes you are right it will not work on Series before 7000 and R7/R9 Series. You can use Mantle on any platform, be it GNU/Linux or Mac, Windows etc. We still don't know if Sony will use Mantle (Or at least i haven't heard anything about it) , Microsoft wont, as they don't seem to care about PC gaming.
You're gonna have to source all of that. As per Repi's talk (Pretty much the reason Mantle exists) at APU13, "Mantle for Developers" Mantle is currently WINDOWS ONLY. Mantle is said to be not tied to GCN, but they only say "Not tied to GCN". That could just mean it also works with AMD's roadmapped µarchs. But I'm leaning towards that because later in the talk, repi says, paraphrasing here, he wants a Mantle 2.0 that works on everything from Mobile to Workstation. But also saying Mantle is more open is absolutely rediculous. Right now, it's completely not. We have absolutely NO information on it apart from a few fucking presentations. NOTHING. ZILCH. We can't use it, we can't see the spec, nothing. They've released bullshit. So far the biggest we've gotten is 3 LINES of code from it, also during Repi's talk. Oh, and saying AMD's more "open" than Nvidia is just stupid. They're pretty much on par. Nvidia's the one pushing all the common postfx shaders right now. S/HBAO, FXAA, GI, proper soft shadows, et al. Hell, stuff like CG. CUDA, PhysX, whatever. You're not going to see those two on AMD cards but at that point it's a fucking miniscule contribution compared to the rest.
Mantle has been confirmed to work on Nvidia cards but only if they would add support of mantle to itself.
I can't parse the syntax on that statement fully - do you mean "it will work on Nvidia cards once AMD adds support of such to Mantle", or "it would work on Nvidia cards if Nvidia decides to implement it"? Because the latter may be legally allowed, but still completely impossible to technically implement. And on the Mantle on pre-GCN AMD cards section, my understanding is that it is GCN itself that is the requirement, not merely being a recent enough card. This would rule out the 7670 (and below), the 8490 (and below), and the R5 230, 220 and 210, as well as any currently-released APUs. This fits with the stated goals of Mantle being to allow ultra-low-level access to the hardware - a level low enough that a different architecture requires a different API, not just a different implementation of the API.

I felt like the box design tells me I paid 570 for battlefield 4 that had a 290x in the box also instead of the other way around

Remember this bad boy gem I've had a while back? This easily beats any GPU box art and name: [img_thumb]http://oi46.tinypic.com/aaab2p.jpg[/img_thumb]
I honestly don't get the point of half the art on Graphics Card boxes, it's usually fucking irreverent. My GTX 760 had fucking claw marks as the main theme.

Look, look, Palit has the best GPU boxes because :frog:
Since we're posting boxes...
Mine pretty much advertises it's made for, at most, watching videos Also it doesn't (well, didn't) have a fan. It's this thing:
[T]http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviewimages/farcry2xfx/pictures/98GT/box.JPG[/t] also got far cry 2 with it which might have been a mistake.
I had a Palit GT220! Fro Bros!
Hey, that's the Palit I had! We used it in a media computer for a customer.
GT220 was pretty much powered by my Sempron 145 and a shitty ECS mobo. It ran Crysis at High no problems with no AA. Best thing I owned.
What resolution was that? 240x160?
I've looked at a few so far, Bristol (closest) - "A*AA to include A* in Maths, or AAA to include Maths and Further Maths" - Source Bath - "AAA - A*AB" (incl A in Maths) - Source Oxford - "A*AA - The A* must be obtained in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics or Computing." - Source Cambridge - "A*AA" - Source On the complete other end of the spectrum, you've got UWE, which has barely any requirements.
You'd be able to get into those with standard maths *assuming you got the required grade. Most computer science courses actually teach you the required maths in the first year because of the differences between A-Levels maths courses, the grade requirements are just to make sure you can cope with the difficulty. Also whoo Bath.
I had a Palit GT220! Fro Bros!
Me too, I remember overclocking it and shit, played Burnout Paradise pretty well. [editline]18th November 2013[/editline] The memory was the main bottleneck, it was slow as fuck.
I'm waiting for Nvidia next gen. AMD and Nvidia are competing so hard right now, it's awesome. No doubt Nvidia's gonna have a hard play next gen.
What does that mean for me and a GTX Titan?
I can get a titan for 400$ from a friend. But i still want to see what mantle does to BF4. I know the titan is 40-50% faster than my 7950.
What does that mean for me and a GTX Titan?
That you have a lot of money? I don't know what you're expecting.
