• How do you crack the encryption on a .7z (7-Zip) file?
    8 replies, posted
Hey all. I don't come to this forum often, so forgive me if this is the wrong place. I just downloaded a file (legally, no warez here) in the 7-Zip archive format. Problem is, the files within have a password on them and no matter where I look on the website I got it from, I can't find the password. I was wondering if anyone knows how to crack the encryption? I did a google search but the only results i could find required Linux and I'm running Windows. Can anyone help me?
I wouldn't mind knowing either, because I downloaded some[sp]porn (compilation, therefor, legal)[/sp]and the guy didn't include a password.... :saddowns:
I've seen .rar password brute forcers, but no .7z ones. :frown:

If I remember correctly you can't crack AES-256.
If I remember correctly you can't crack AES-256.
Nothing is crack-proof. A cracker just hasn't been found/invented.
Nothing is crack-proof.
That isn't true. At the very least, a one-time pad can be proven secure in all cases provided the pad was generated from a sufficiently random source. If you're less formal about your definition of "secure" and you take into account how impractical most brute-force attacks are, I'm sure there are lots of ciphers that cannot be cracked in practice (although proving this would be another matter entirely...)
