• Competition POLL!

Alright Facepunch, pick your poison. PLEASE ONLY VOTE FOR A COMPETITION IF YOU PLAN ON ENTERING, YOU TWATS Thanks.
Most attractive Desktop poll should exist. All of the other ones cost money or require things that some people don't have immediate access to.
Cable management is the fairest out of them, so I picked that even though I suggested case modding.
What exactly is "Old Hardware Uses"? Creative ways to reuse older hardwares?
What exactly is "Old Hardware Uses"? Creative ways to reuse older hardwares?
Correct.
Most attractive Desktop poll should exist. This limits the competition to rich fucks like Ajacks. Love you buddy.
old hardware should be replaced by the desk idea [editline]4th June 2012[/editline] all of the ideas except for old hardware are more based on visual appeal, having old hardware as an option seems kind of out of place and probably won't have as cool results as the other options or the desk idea
Correct. I'm looking to appeal to the largest audience possible. This limits the competition to rich fucks like Ajacks. Love you buddy.
What? How? Attractive desktop can be 800x600 or 2560x1600. I'm talking about your desktop, not your resolution, not your desk, not your setup. The only thing you need for a desktop is a wallpaper, maybe rainmeter, maybe fences, and maybe visual styles. All of those are free and work at any resolution. I don't have an extra computer case sitting around, I don't have old computer hardware, most people don't have a fancy case with cable management built in, and USB modding is... actually pretty fair. But still.
for some reason by desktop I thought you were talking about actual desks oops [editline]4th June 2012[/editline] and as for cases with no cable management, get creative since that is the point of this competition to begin with
Most attractive Desktop doesn't actually sound very fun imo.
Except everyone can enter it.
Cable management and purdy desktop sound boring as hell. Old hardware, case modding and usb modding actually require some diy-manship, creativity and ingenuity. Competing in routing cables just means the person who threw the most money at it (large case with cable routing grommets & modular psu with individually sleeved cables) will win. Purdy desktop contest is also boring because it's not particularly hard. Yeah you get mass appeal but at the expense of making it boring as hell. It's like competing in organizing your office desk. Yeah everyone with an office desk can compete but fucks sake there are so many better things to have a competition in. Case modding is damn near a sport and there are plenty of inventive things to do, USB modding is always fun and old hardware uses is a bit of a wildcard as it could be anything from hard drive coasters to using an old desktop pc to automate your home.
A desktop background competition seems subjective. Not everyone likes the same styles. For example, Makol's idea of a slick desktop is something like this.
what?

In my case I don't want to ruin a case that I paid quite a bit for.

That was my attempt at Facepunch humor. How did I do.
you insulted/confused me so I give you a B+

It's for people with the interest, skill and passion to compete in what they enjoy doing. If you water down the challenge it doesn't become a competition worth noting.
you insulted/confused me so I give you a B+
Boo. I can do better.
USB modding is the only fair and cheap one here
for some reason by desktop I thought you were talking about actual desks oops
I thought the same
Well the poll expires in a week, so we can get input from members who are less active. We'll see how it goes but I'm looking forward to holding whatever competition we end up choosing.
Cable management isn't really what it used to be anymore, pretty much all cases now are designed to hide and tuck cables away very easily. Its not really the same as it was 5 to 8+ years ago. Case mods are always interesting though, they can literally be made out of garbage and you get some really creative ideas. You don't even need to use good parts you could use a trash Pentium I system and get creative with a little bit of spraypaint and plexigass.
i dunno, if cable management prevails, maybe we couldseparate the cases with a lot of cable management potential from cases that dont? i dont know it seems a bit unfair actually, my antec 300 could be a good example it went from this (normal 300 case, not mine) to this i painted it black, cut holes, and installed a window (not shown) i think that the cable management might be a bit unfair, that's just me though

Have two divisions in the competition. One for high-end cases like an 800D, and one for everyday cases that aren't built for cable management. THE MONKEYS WROTE SHAKESPEARE, GUYS.

THE MONKEYS WROTE SHAKESPEARE, GUYS.
What about for people who don't have/can't afford modular power supplies? They're pretty much the best thing for cable management in a case.
What about for people who don't have/can't afford modular power supplies? They're pretty much the best thing for cable management in a case.
Best idea would be to judge management vs management potential, surely.
Best idea would be to judge management vs management potential, surely.
But then someone with a case with 0 cable management potential would instantly win.
We'll sort everything out when the almighty poll has spoken.
