Imageshack does that sometimes for some reason
Had I paid attention to the original link I would've reuploaded it. Imageshack is pure shit.
Fuck. I don't think I kept the original when I switched to my SSD. I'll check my backup.
So how do you guys feel about this: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2012/05/03/making-windows-media-center-available-in-windows-8.aspx [editline]3rd May 2012[/editline] I think it's an interesting move. The regular Windows price would be cheaper as it's Windows price - licensing fees. So Windows is less expensive. If you chose to get the Media pack, it would be about the same as buying Windows as it is now as the price already covers that.
God damn day one DLC.

I'd just buy the cheaper one, since I use iTunes and VLC to play everything.
K-lite Mega Codec pack x64 master race here.
To the subject: I think its retarded that Ms would remove DVD playback functionality just to make a package they can charge for... And don't hand me that "licensing" bullshit, Microsoft is pulling another M$ move again. They're just coating it over with a bunch of logical sounding shit just to do this. It "Makes sense", It doesn't "Just Work" EDIT: Read my later posts to understand why I said this before just blindly rating me "dumb" please.
Microsoft being sued, Motorola two faced about codec, Windows gets semi-unfavorably altered. Fuck.
I think its retarded that Ms would remove DVD playback functionality just to make a package they can charge for
You do realize that you're paying for that stuff already when you purchase Windows now right? It's included in the price.
You do realize that you're paying for that stuff already when you purchase Windows now right? It's included in the price.
That's understood, whats not is why remove a function and put it in a package you have to purchase to regain it? I get the pricing thing, they are trying to make it more available to people that either don't want to pay a crazy price or just don't have that kinda money for the prior price. $300 something opposed to $550, but if the DVD/Media Center package is not light on the pricetag those who want that full functionality are still paying that large tag there, which is a possibility. That's why I bitched, and I think they're pulling crap. But that's just my opinion.
I won't really mind them plugging out support for WMP (though I find it a bit redundant), since there's other solutions. If it means a lower price, and simply fewer features in WMP, I won't really care. As long as they don't make DVD playback something you can't do without buying something from them, it's cool.

People like me and you and anyone else posting here itt, won't notice shit because we know whats up when it comes to these things.

The average user will be very confused and unless they would need to have some sort of dialog like: "Hey, here's a link to the app store which will let you download an app to do this!"

If the price is lower, it's not gonna bother me personally. Still a dick move in some aspects.
When will we be able to pop in a commercial Blu-ray disc, and have it play automatically after a fresh Windows install? Without third-party support, probably never...
Too bad flash doesn't want to work in the metro IE browser even though I installed it but windows 8 it still rocks above all, just waiting for a new browser to come in metro any day now. I also want to thank Panda for creating this thread. :v:
I wonder how Chrome will look like on Metro. Or lets hope they make that, first.
I wonder how Chrome will look like on Metro. Or lets hope they make that, first.
Hit F11.
I downloaded the Metro app SDK so I'm gonna try and make some apps for Windows 8. Taking suggestions.

I like having everything all together because it's all basically the same thing - getting me in the know.
You do realize that you're paying for that stuff already when you purchase Windows now right? (Basically passing the price of the h264 license and turning it into a tiny profit)

They already make a profit on it, if they sell it for cheaper, they get more sales and in turn more profits. If they were to price it the same the whole tech community will call them out on it and end up losing sales. Also if they lower it people who wouldn't've bought it previously might reconsider. "Hey if it's only $x then what the hell, I'll go ahead and get it." Look at how well all those discounts, pre-purchase, bundle pack, etc savings did for 7. They sold 1 million PS3s in 6 weeks after launch for 600 a pop, so my point here is if people want it enough they're going to buy it no matter the price and Microsoft knows that. This pricing thing is similar between Ms and Sony, only Microsoft is superior at it.
And then risk losing sales.
We're talking about a quasi monopoly here. They'll still make money off every new PC ever made from the point of Windows 8's release and they'll still make plenty of money if they price Windows at the same price they would've before. I would've agreed with you were we not talking about Microsoft and Windows here (and a particularly small amount of money)

If they did that, they're completely fucking stupid. Not to mention MS isn't as bad now as they used to be. Not saying they're great or anything, but they aren't as bad as say the 90's or 00's.

They thought Motorola was allowing it's use freely due to how vast a portion of Internet video uses it; then Moto does a U-turn and sues. At the end of the day, Win8 with media playback is probably going to cost the same as Windows has usually.
