No, vents or ports serve as openings, which has a side effect of letting sound out or in. The advantage of the openings is a bigger soundstage. Closed, no ports or openings, seals in sound, giving isolation. This has a side effect too, it creates a chamber around your ear that tends to enhance the low frequencies. It also shrinks the soundstage, closed headphones have smaller ones as a rule. This is why generally speaking a closed headphone has more bass than the exact same headphone in an open style. edit: Keep in mind an 'open' headphone might still have plenty of bass, it all depends on your personal taste. However, most people who are into bass heavy music usually go with a closed headphone of some type.
Ok, thanks anyway for the info but my dad fixed the cable of my Philips SBC HP400, so i can go on with this one longer :D
About to order my pair of Panasonic RP-HTF600-S's :D
Would plugging a pair of headphones into the headphone jack of an amplified pair of speakers have a similar effect to plugging them into a headphone amp?
Would plugging a pair of headphones into the headphone jack of an amplified pair of speakers have a similar effect to plugging them into a headphone amp?
It depends on the speakers. I have a Logitech 2.1 system, powered, and all the headphone jack does is passthru the audio from the computer. So it does nothing for headphones in terms of amplification. Yours could be different though.
-snip, i'm dumb :P-
Since there isn't really a earbud discussion thread: I just got a new pair of earbuds for christmas and I put the foam tips I got with them on. I now can't seem to get the tips off. I've tried steaming them for a moment, that didn't do anything. I would prefer to not destroy the tips when I take them off, but I do have another pair in the box.

Got them as a Christmas gift a few years ago). It doesn't seem to do a pass-through since the volume knob adjusts the volume of the headphones.
volume != amp
Bought! :D
So, I'm using a Fiios E6 and XONAR_DG with my Sennheiser 558's right now, and it's just dandy, but I want a more permanent amp, since I use the E6 with my iPod all the time. Is this good/noticeably better than a 20 buck Behringer one (I know fuck all about headphone amps) http://www.amazon.com/ART-HeadAmp4-Channel-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B000M0TN6U/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top If I need to loosen the wallet (which I really don't want to do) and get a Fiio E9 or something then, welp.
So I was walking downtown today and saw a pair of HD201s on a store shelf they were $75
So I was walking downtown today and saw a pair of HD201s on a store shelf they were $75
my $15 pair laughs at theirs
Ladies and Gentlemen, literally the worst set of photos I've ever taken god damn; I did the foam mod and stuck an Antlion ModMic on my 558's, burn-in isn't done yet so I can't report on the sound, but they sound pretty great out of the box, and they're comfy as fuck. I'm so use to leather/pleather though so velure feels kind of weird, but I'll adjust for sure. Also, heres the E6 I ordered.
Oh um, I got these
I would have gotten those, but I personally think it's hideous, and besides the slightly different honeycomb structure they're the exact same except for a piece of removable foam on the inside. Saved me 70 bucks, so welp.
i think theyre sexy [editline]11th February 2012[/editline] + id rather spend more money so i dont have to tinker with stuff. i dont trust myself i break things when i tinker with them
Heh. It's actually a pretty easy mod, just pull out the foam, a layer of mesh, and unscrew a few things, and voila, you have 598's. As for the looks, I dunno, I'm just not a fan of the colours. Seems more suited to the interior of a car. :v: e: It actually reminds me of my car exactly, the black and all. (not my actual picture, but you get the point.)
its meant to have like, a retro vibe, i guess. i dig it. its hot
pair of these should be arriving today: http://www.amazon.co.uk/JVC-HAS4X-Xtreme-Xplosives-Headphone/dp/B004WIOCUU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1328944686&sr=8-3 It'll be interesting to see how to price compares to the quality.
I have no idea how they perform, but I tell you what they sure are horrendous looking. Especially that urban camo head cushion
I have no idea how they perform, but I tell you what they sure are horrendous looking. Especially that urban camo head cushion
true, they do look like a 13 year old's wet dream but i'm hoping to get some decent sound for the price.
you know you could have got http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-RP-HTF600E-S-High-HiFi-Headphone/dp/B002R5ABPU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1328945489&sr=8-1 and not looked like you're 13 for 5 more
Budget: $50-$70 eBay: yes Country: Australia Isolation: preferably closed Purpose: 45% gaming, 35% videos and 20% music Music Tastes: a bit of everything Previous Experiences: I bought a sennheiser HDsomething eons ago and they were great but eventually broke, and at the moment I'm using a razer megalodon :/ Comments: I would prefer headphones over earphones, and bass isn't really important to me if that helps the search for a great pair of headphones in my budget range.
Would Grado SR60i be a good choice? I'm willing to spend a few extra dollars outside my budget if it's worth it.
you know you could have got http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-RP-HTF600E-S-High-HiFi-Headphone/dp/B002R5ABPU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1328945489&sr=8-1 and not looked like you're 13 for 5 more
Student budget :v:.
Would Grado SR60i be a good choice? If you decided for open rather than closed, I'd say to get HD555 I don't really know of any other cheap closed haedphones except HARX700 and HTF600
Student budget :v:.
well, post a review. I'm interested in how they sound

And most of my gaming is mainly for it's bgm and stuff, over footsteps and other things. The HD555 is $100 over my current budget but I should have enough for it in fortnight.
