• Comcast Xfinity - Same shit, new name

People in the US may have heard of Comcast's new bullshit "Xfinity". It's supposed to allow faster stream times for things like Youtube videos, faster internet speeds and cheaper TV. It's based on the premise that "Verizon has FIOS, Comcast has Xfinity" From what I hear, the "faster stream times" make for less-than-360p video quality and the Internet Speeds boosted to 100Mb/s (which will be useless when Google stops doing fuckall and gets their 1Gbps lines going) Here's a quote from PCMag, not a main source of news but fuck off it's the only decent page I could find
The service, which promises new HD channels, faster Internet speeds, and the ability to watch shows online, will initially be available in Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Portland, Seattle, Hartford, Augusta, Chattanooga, and parts of the Bay Area and San Francisco. More cities will be added later this year.
What do you think? Huge waste of money, I mean who the hell cares about new HD channels, fuck off Comcast.
Looks like a big ripoff. Loads of things can "watch shows online"
i like comcast. I said i was thinking of switching to fios, so they boosted my internet speed and gave me new channels for free. I'm fine with comcast. They've never let me down in the past.

Where the fuck is all the Canadian support. I feel left out.

They've never let me down in the past.
when I was with comcast the internet went out every 3-4 hours, and customer support was a mess. I switched over to fios and it's much better, especially the internet I went from 7 Mb/s up and 7 Mb/s down to 35 Mb/s down 25 Mb/s up, and it was the same price [editline]05:07AM[/editline] only thing with fios is you have to pay for the tv per box you get two boxes to start with, its 6 dollars for a normal box and 10 bux extra for a hd box per month
I wish I could switch over to fios.
I wish I could switch over to fios.
Me too. The only companies that provide it in this town don't provide to rural customers. >:C
No problems with Comcast, and I've had them for about 4 or 5 years. I was going to tell my parents to get Fios but I hear their ToS is pretty shit.
We will never get internet that fast, Geez the fastest shaw provides is only like 25mbps
I live in newfoundland.
Even with time warner, I can't stream most videos from youtube (even 360p or less). And I have a 20mbps connection. I think that it has to do partly with the fact that youtube partners (like shay carl or KassemG) might get increased bandwith or something... Whatever, I can't wait for google to get their new 1Gbps lines, 1080p with HTML5.

I really want to see someone being informed of that not only were they watching the person but they tear up the contract because of it.
Why does everyone hate comcast? I have their internet and I get 10-20 DL and 4-7 upload.
Why does everyone hate comcast? I have their internet and I get 10-20 DL and 4-7 upload.
Because even though they have good speeds....their customer support are dumb as a doorknob. If you ever have a problem. Expect days of getting your shit fixed.
Yeah, I get good download and upload speeds (20 DL 7 UP) but when we had a thunderstorm last summer lightning hit one of the trees or something causing my service going down the shitter and my neighbors still working but some fuzzy channels. So instead of fixing our service since there is no internet, tv, or phone they go over and fix my neighbors cable and then waits 3 days to fix our cable. They kept saying oh we have a van in the area he'll be by your house at 3... no now 6PM wait how about 9 PM you knnow what! he's coming at 1AM in the fucking morning. We got 3 months free after that.
Uhh I can stream 700p movies online already. And I don't even live in the US
Comcast sucks. Their powerboost is a bunch of BC just to get people to get them. I mean, really, the first 10 MB of a file?!? Also, I had to call them because the internet was out but the cable still worked. Then both went out and they said it was our computers problems WHEN THE TV WAS OUT DURRR. Finally they had to send somebody out, and they "accidentally" splitted too many people on the same line. They said it would be free since it wasn't in our house, but GUESS WHAT? They ended up charging us $40 to fix it with a $10 gas fee for driving here. It took forever with their shitty customer service to reverse the charges. I hate them so much. :v
i'm in the DC area and this crappy comcast modem loses connection and I have to constantly restart it
Anyone who has played online with me knows how I feel about Comcast. Anyone. Internet dropouts that can last anywhere from seconds to hours, and can happen anywhere from days to minutes between them. I can restart the modem and the internet will be up for literally about two minutes before it drops again. When I don't tend to it after it drops, the internet can stay out for minutes to hours at a time. I've woken up after leaving the internet offline to find it offline in the morning, not reconnected by itself at all. Sudden internet slowdowns making pages load incredibly slow. 250 GB monthly cap. A bandwidth cap to begin with. Archaic proprietary horse shit cable boxes that don't even let you use the normal switcher for your TV. HD videos take forever to load even on my 15 mb/s down 4 up connection. More shit I can't think of right now. If FiOS didn't cost $30 more for the same speed per month, we'd get it.
Internet dropouts
Pretty much sums up Comcast
A huge smug smile appears on my face when reading your messages. I've never had this problem, and I'm doing 2.5MB/s up and down on my 30/30Mbit, at the same time even. Danish quality at it's best.
Well I have Triple Play and had no connection problems at all.
Well I have Triple Play and had no connection problems at all.
Eww. That's like $130 a month, right?
i like comcast. I said i was thinking of switching to fios, so they boosted my internet speed and gave me new channels for free. I'm fine with comcast.
What the fuck. So they could end your contract on the basis of you posting in a off topic forum?
Posting off-topic information, such as telling people french fries at In-n-Out is better than the ones at McDonalds in a computer forums.
What the fuck. So they could end your contract on the basis of you posting in a off topic forum?
Yeah, because you trolling on an internet forum is enough incentive for them not to want your $100 a month or whatever it is. A lot of companies have things like this, but rarely do they act on them, people download things illegally quite often, they get warned, but I've never actually met someone who's been taken to court or had their internet shut off. (piracy is bad, just an example of a breach of terms of use generally)
