and on the other hand, windows 8 unbroke my integrated webcam so it could fix things!
Yeah, no it didn't. Shit went more fucked then before. Installed 8.1, explorer absolutely refuses to start. I log in, nothing happens. I press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and task manager pops up, but no matter how much I trigger explorer.exe, it won't show. It also messed up my AMD drivers, it put the screen scaling to 10%. Fonts are messed up (it's not using Segoe UI, I'm not really sure what font it's using). I was lucky to be able to post. I just navigated to the chrome .exe because it's all I can do. Fuck 8.1. Now I have to reinstall everything all over again.

I used a UXTheme patcher, but that worked perfectly fine both before and after a restart. Started fucking up when I reinstalled my GPU drivers. Doesn't matter now anyway. Restored back to regular Windows 8 (which was painful in itself because where as usually after a recovery Windows activates itself, this time it didn't) Blergh. [editline]14th April 2014[/editline] Never taking the risk of upgrading again. Too much at stake. Now I see why some workplaces are still stuck on Windows 95/XP.

Windows 8.1 has been a bit problematic for some people, Vista was problematic for a lot of people. No reason for people to not upgrade to 7 though, it's pretty stable

[editline]14th April 2014[/editline] if a os update breaks your computer, it's time to evaluate the software and hardware of your computer
Software: Steam (Along with a selection of games), Skype, Greenshot, Audacity, Autodesk Maya, Autodesk 3DS Max, Adobe Master Collection CS6, Catalyst Control Center, Rainmeter, Dropbox, Google Drive, Sony Vegas 12 and a couple of tools to customize the otherwise really messy Metro-menu (but nothing major, mostly changing icons/labels of the shortcuts. Hardware: Intel i7 3770, XFX Radeon 7950 3GB, 16GB Kingston DDR3, 1TB Barracuda harddrive + 120GB Kingston SSD. afaik none of these should cause any significant damage to the OS. An upgrade should pass through fine, yet didn't. And like I said, the UXTheme patch worked perfectly fine. It wasn't until I updated my drivers for the GPU that things stopped completely, and the drivers were for Windows 8.1.
UXTheme patches have always broken my System after big updates.
Use a soft patch. Though hard patches should be overwritten anyway.

Does anybody know what's going on? I'm not sure if anybody else is having this problem but I haven't been able to change my primary Microsoft account email for a while now. I'm switching from Hotmail to Gmail.
Any word on when the start menu update will drop
Any word on when the start menu update will drop
My guess is around October.
Any word on when the start menu update will drop
As soon as you let go
What theme is it? It's fixable but only manually.
Nevermind, it fixed itself after I re-installed windows. Does anyone know if it's possible to set a wallpaper over three monitors on the lock screen of 8.1? I can set a slideshow wallpaper but that only covers two of the screens

The psychology of a start menu making Windows 8 palpable to so many continues to amuse me.

So I've been browsing around /g/ not long ago because I wanted some updated headphone price lists but I found this instead. [vid]http://i.4cdn.org/g/1398758352777.webm[/vid] I want my windows to be as smooth as the one in the video. I know it isn't fast forwarded because he opens a video and the video plays correctly, even the time is fine. Anyone know how to possibly do this?
Having a good SSD goes a long way to achieving that kind of smoothness.
Regarding the Windows 8.1 update that lets the taskbar pop up when using an app. I have my taskbar on top so when I hover above to drag down an app, the taskbar sometimes pops up. It's really annoying and inconsistent. Is there some way to disable pop up taskbar? I checked taskbar settings but it's not there, it should be somewhere in metro settings.

I can only see the taskbar when using the desktop.
Why is it that sometimes auto hide taskbar doesn't show up when you point your mouse at the bottom of the screen It gets annoying

Has anyone on 8.1 Pro not gotten Update 1 yet? I was away from my desktop from start of April until the 25th of May. Updates automatically install and I've checked manually every few days but nothing has came up, just definition updates and the like.
I haven't searched for updates, but it hasn't come up automatically on my desktop either. Set to automatically install updates and has been online for 9 days.
