I even put the video in the first post. :P By the way, that FTL effect gives me some problems. I made the video in SG:TLS. But when testing the map in Gmod, the blue clouds are paler and just not as dense as when played in SG:TLS. The used particle file is the same. Hm.
SG:TLS is still running on old 2007 source engine, gmod is updated long ago to the Orange box engine some effects are different.
SG:TLS is still running on old 2007 source engine, gmod is updated long ago to the Orange box engine some effects are different.
2007 is Orange Box. 2009 is an upgraded Orange Box. Everything should still be compatible.
2007 is Orange Box. 2009 is an upgraded Orange Box. So you gone need to adjust it to orange box.
Does this use catdameons's/avon's stargate addon or is it some wicked map teleporter as the stargate?
ok brb making map because i cant give criticism unless i do Everyone's acting as if this is a godly map, and as I said, no offense to the OP, it isn't.
No offense taken, of course the map is far from perfect. But I ask you again to explain what exactly is wrong with the map in your eyes. I can't improve something if I don't know what's allegedly wrong.
Might have to do with the bloom effect
Nope, no bloom.
sorry 2004 engine. so the old source engine, mmh some shaders and effects are different as you can see the effects of env_cubemap on old skin for css. The engine difference might indeed be the problem, although that's stupid by valve. :/ I also noted a difference in FPS between the TLS and Gmod test. The TLS effect slows the game down significantly, maybe due to the effect being stronger... Very strange. I'll try to adjust it in Gmod or Ep2 when I'm back home.
Does this use catdameons's/avon's stargate addon or is it some wicked map teleporter as the stargate?
It uses the universe gate from Carters Addon Pack, which builds upon Avons Stargate Addon. So yes, fully functional gate.
ok brb making map because i cant give criticism unless i do Everyone's acting as if this is a godly map, and as I said, no offense to the OP, it isn't.
Well, since everybodys opnions are different, some people might class this map as godly depending on their own taste. I for one love this map as I believe it accurately recreates the Destiny from SGU, a show which I very much enjoy. Simply saying "This map is not godly" is a mere opinionated statement which I feel is completely unnecessary and fails to aid the OP to actually improve the map. If you are going to criticize, be constructive. Else you just sound like an asshole.

This is amazing, truly jaw dropping.I cannot wait to see how this map turns out.
I haven't seen Stargate, is the texturing as dirty as it is in the show? If not, I recommend getting some better, cleaner textures. This kind of looks like something that's been rusting away for years.
thats the point

The Destiny (for those that haven't seen the show) has been running on auto-pilot, abandoned for quite some time.
Ah, my main gripe was the texturing, I thought it didn't fit. Apparently it does.
It uses the universe gate from Carters Addon Pack, which builds upon Avons Stargate Addon. So yes, fully functional gate.
I personally use Catdaemon's stargate addon, I'll have to try Avon's.
I'm sticking the Carters Pack energy gates, they add the functionality that avon removed a few years ago.
Ah, my main gripe was the texturing, I thought it didn't fit. Apparently it does.
That's it? Seriously? I stated in the OP that this map is a replica of something existing in a tv show. Why do you judge the textures without knowing how the original looks like?
I personally use Catdaemon's stargate addon, I'll have to try Avon's.
Huh. I didn't know you can get catdaemons stuff separately without Avons pack.
Huh. I didn't know you can get catdaemons stuff separately without Avons pack.
Yup.

I didn't know you can get catdaemons stuff separately without Avons pack.
Just because it's a replica doesn't mean it's picture perfect. Honestly, I felt that it seemed too dirt, and the white lights seem too bright. If you want to, you could simply make the texture for the white lights maybe more dirty?
Just because it's a replica doesn't mean it's picture perfect. Honestly, I felt that it seemed too dirt, and the white lights seem too bright. There's no need to critque something that looks as good as he has made it. At least not until it's released.
The map looks perfect as is. There's no need to critque something that looks as good as he has made it. Looks great I wish stargate RP wasn't dead
Will there be an ability to take the Destiny Shuttle to fly around in space?? Possibly to a planet
I doubt source could pull that off well with its limitations.
The map looks perfect as is. There's no need to critque something that looks as good as he has made it. At least not until it's released.
Nah, I need critism, as long as it's constructive (it's bad because...) instead of destructive (it's bad!). Of course I try to use angles for the screenshots which don't show too bad looking stuff. ^^
Just because it's a replica doesn't mean it's picture perfect.
I'm sorry, that's a very stupid formula. If there wasn't any criticism, there would be no improvement and we would be like FPSBanana.
And yet you didn't give constructive critism, but just saying "bad", until several people asked you to do so. Possibly to a planet

I doubt source could pull that off well with its limitations.
It would be possible, see SpaceBuild. But not only do I fear for performance issues, but I would also need to build the outside of the destiny. And knowing the destiny's level of detail, I couldn't fullfill my or your expectations.
Is a realease far away?? :D
That depends on how much I want to pack into the map. :/ I'm already pondering whether I should leave some things out for the first release, like the crew quarters, shower, neural interface room and front shuttle bay. I'm still aiming at the start of the second season of SGU. But I can't promise anything.
Would you consider a V2 for season 2 and whatever that brings?
I think you should just realease it as it is now, and just use SVN or something to update when you are ready to :D
despite the fact that season 2 is not that far away, it wouldn't really make much sense to cut things in half... have to be honest, that i'd appreciate to see a release in the "near" future (if not now already)... however,...as things take time, it probably would be better to wait a few more days **punching myself** but keep in mind, if the author doesn't decide to throw it out the window or keep it for himself, you'll most likely get to play the map one way or another. what kind of difference would a few days make then?
Would you consider a V2 for season 2 and whatever that brings?
Sure. I just hope they don't disappoint me with yet another re-decorated nexus room, multi-purpose room or gate room as a new location on the ship. But from what I saw of behind-the-scene pics and the trailer, they will annoy me this way... Those rooms I mentioned are just the farthest away from finished. And I'm not even talking about the brushwork itself, but about the rooms location on the destiny. I really have a hard time deciding on a layout. And I can't add too many corridors and stuff anyway, since I hit the brush limit (goddamn MAX_MAP_BRUSHES error) recently. I turned a lot of architecture into models and there is still more stuff I can turn, but still... I will certainly be happy when the first release is done.
Yeah, I wonder what season 2 will bring us :D
Mysterious doors. :D And according to Robert "Rush" Carlyle of course the [sp]bridge[/sp], but I guess most here know this already? On a not so different note, I just checked out Joseph Mallozzis blog and almost fainted:  [img_thumb]http://josephmallozzi.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/img_6797.jpg[/img_thumb] Check out the images. Don't worry, not a spoiler. Reading through the comments, it seems that thing is a 3D-print of the official Destiny model.
