• Cryengine 3 - Half Life 2 Roleplay Game?

  • Just a short Idea i had while getting the newest Cryengine Realese. (Which currently work at my place due to a AMD Graphic bug mentioned in the forums -.-) But what about a really big Map which is Half Life 2 related for a multiplayer HL2RP Game? I mean i love gmod Roleplay specially hl2rp but i want something A: Better Looking B: Something new So i thought what about the Cryengine? So my question is. Would that be Possible? Who would help? What would you help? Greetings (btw is there a way to change my username :'D i want finally my new one because this one i dont use for years now so dont pick on me for that)

  • Why should it be Illegal if we would recreate Models? Of course it wont be possible to use the same models / prefabs and such true that but the rest wont be such a problem would it. Because i have seen game recreations of other games in like the cryengine on moddb too

  • You'd be pretty much fine as long as you didn't use HL content or the branding. AFAIK, it's OK to be Half-Life-esque.

When you just port them, you could leave the whole Cryengine part out and just make a mod (!). Oh and it would be illegal to port HL2 models over anyways( I assume you are talking about them, since they're essential to the half-life atmosphere)

  • The only way that something like this would be legal is if you made the game free, and then made it so that when it starts up, it somehow loads the half life models without actually copying them. Good luck with that.

Then again you might be used to TSRP post-1.5 / Gmod RP which revolves more around using plugins and interfaces than actually roleplaying anything.

  • Its not only about the Lightning. I want something BIGGER i mean the source engine is really limited what it can run on map sizes and i have never seen a really "open world like" map for such a thing. I "maybe" found a Programmer for it i will do some of the mapping. (Programmer is still thinking about it) Also most likely it will just take the art style like robmaister said without the hl2 content but a similar storyline. Still searching for help if anyone wants to ^^

Lighting can be optimized with that, effects can be added in the shape of shaders and there are already a ton of brilliant maps out there. Work effort -80%

You can drop combine everywhere. Helicopters and combines could be added via MapAdd (done in CSS SCI FI i.e.). Walking a couple minutes?
