•
Can someone help me understand why whitespaces affect the triple click? For example: I have this
<html> <head> <style> li { display: inline-block; border-color: #ABABAB; border-style: solid; border-width: 1px; padding: 3px; margin: 5px; } </style> </head> <body> <div> <ul> <li> <span>-test-</span> <li> <span>-test-</span> <li> <span>-test-</span> <li> <span>-test-</span> <li> <span>-test-</span> <li> <span>-test-</span> </li> </ul> </div> </body> </html>
Now, if you run that code and try to triple click the first list item, it will select all of them. But if you run this:
<html><head><style>li{display:inline-block;border-color:#ABABAB;border-style:solid;border-width:1px;padding:3px;margin:5px;}</style></head><body><div><ul><li><span>-test-</span><li><span>-test-</span><li><span>-test-</span><li><span>-test-</span><li><span>-test-</span><li><span>-test-</span></li></ul></div></body></html>
then try to triple click the first list item, it will just select the first list item.
Your <li> tags aren't closed?
 •
Ok guys, I need some advice on what to do, basically I was joining random servers, and saw one community didn't have a loadingurl, I offered to help them out made a loadingurl, motd, etc and naturally hosted them on my server so the content couldn't be stolen. Apparently not, they just downloaded it, removed my little copyright nametag in the corner and then hosted it on their website & banned me from their server, I'm not fussed about the server, but having my work ripped off like that is a little disheartening, what would you guys do in this situation, just leave it?, because I don't really think there's anything I can do and what's the best way to prevent stuff like this happening, is there anyway to disable the ability to download, I doubt it thought since they can just copy paste the source.
take a look into copyright policies and see what you can do about it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright#Obtaining_and_enforcing_copyright shit like this can save you
 •
Your <li> tags aren't closed?
Whoops, they aren't in that example, but they are in the page I'm actually using.
 •
Whoops, they aren't in that example. They are in the page I'm actually using, though.
Oh.. Then I don't know. You having each oh the <li>..</li> on the same line in the sourcecode? Or <li></li> <li></li> <li></li>
 •
Oh.. Then I don't know. You having each oh the <li>..</li> on the same line in the sourcecode? Or <li></li> <li></li> <li></li>
I updated my post with the exact code I'm using. I've tried making the li tags inline, but that still doesn't help.

Or is there an age limit?

 • Thanks for all the help guys, I'm gathering loads of evidence, etc. but is there any way to stop this from happening in the first place, like preventing the download of files.

[editline]5th February 2012[/editline] you can't just not let them download it cause that's what they do every time they visit your site

Focus on creating content that would be worth stealing, license it according to your intentions, and don't deal with random internet assholes again.

Anyway, thanks for all your help guys. It's appreciated. Any you guys know some decent resources that I could use to make this sort of contract, I'm 15 so obviously not a lawyer of any kind. There's got to be something that provides some basic outlines and then allows me to edit it and expand upon. As when I did a work experience at a graphic design company I noticed they had a contract so I presume web dev would be the same?

Just make yourself sound old. Say that you're going to do DMCA notice or something. [editline]5th February 2012[/editline] it always worked for me.

 • Would you mind showing me some examples of what he's helped with, my friend does have a brother in law, but he doesn't get to talk to him too often since he's busy with university stuff. If you don't feel comfortable here you could PM me. I'm just curious as to what needs to be included, etc. EDIT: Thanks for your PM, appreciate it<3
 • I now understand Ruby. Chain-able like JavaScript but with 80% more chain Readable like the English language! Simples. Have a read: http://www.rubyinside.com/media/poignant-guide.pdf

 • (PHP Question) I just started using MySQli instead of other methods. I was wondering if I have to make a connection to the database every time I wanna run a script involving queries or can I have a constant connection over the entire system. (It almost seems time consuming to reconnect 15 times over have it connect one time and just process 15 queries)
$MySQL = new mysqli($dbhost, $dbuser, $dbpass, $dbname);
:eng101: Or is it better to just keep opening and closing the connection? I can see the benefits of either method.

 • Hey guys, question about securing data transmission: I've just started using AJAX (totally FREAKING awesome by the way), and I'm building an application that sends sensitive data (sent from a form) to be interpreted by server-side code. I know, just as if this was a regular form sending data, that there really isn't that much of a difference between GET and POST for security (either can be easily gotten into by those with the programs to do so), but that I need to have some kind of security system in place to verify that it is a genuine request coming from the genuine source (the back-end control panel page). I was wondering what you guys' preferred method of security-checking is for entered form data. Should I just use a token system, or is there a better/easier way?

 • So I joined this competition(physics) and we had to make a site using a site builder(but you could also edit the html) but yesterday I uploaded it permanently(deadline). And now I can't change the source any longer. I can however still change the style.css. My problem is that on low resolutions youtube videos just pop out of the div container.
<p><center><iframe width="854" height="510" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/whatever" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></center></p>
Is there any way I can fix this using only style.css? Edit: I've got these javascript functions which can resize the youtube videos automatically but I can't seem to find a way to embed it in the style.css nvm width: 90% !important;
 •
why would you want to keep closing and reopening the connection?
Well it doesn't seem best to have an open connection at all times, and I have all my stuff spread out over separate files and I require(); them all, and each var works fine across all pages except for the mysqli open var. When another page tries to run a query from a previously loaded page that made the connection, it says unknown var, can't find the connection.
