[QUOTE=barttool;43702699]It's technically feasible, though if you're hoping to get any meaningful traffic you want a server, since Dropbox blocks files with too much traffic.[/QUOTE] No this is purely a test bed for development progress and storing my writing, next to no traffic I assume. I had touched on this in a vague and stupid way in the quick questions thread but if you guys could hear me out: My father is running a local (island-wide) music promotion/semi-label company thing and is strapped for cash but really wants to be able to market these bands he is involved with and has asked me if I could set up a database that could store e-mails. This is so fans of the bands can go on the websites, enter their e-mails and receive news about gigs etc. I have no experience in this and told him I probably couldn't but I want to surprise him with some sort of solution so he can handle this without me, in time for his birthday. Needless to say I'd still code the actual e-mails. Link to the html and css. Anyone tell me why the navigation is off-centre? On Facepunch, when a thread has more than 1 page, it displays as something like this on the forum display page: [code]( 2 3 4 5 .. 222 223 224 225 Last )[/code] How would I do something like this in PHP using only the number of pages?
[QUOTE=Coffeee;43704183]On Facepunch, when a thread has more than 1 page, it displays as something like this on the forum display page: [code]( 2 3 4 5 .. 222 223 224 225 Last )[/code] How would I do something like this in PHP using only the number of pages?[/QUOTE] Not used PHP in ages, but you could do something like this: [php]function getPages($pages) { $pageList = array(); if ($pages <= 10) { // If there's less than 10 pages, just display them all for ($i=1; $i<=$pages; $i++) { array_push($pageList, $i); } return $pageList; } else { for ($i=1; $i<=5; $i++) { // Go through 5 pages (change this to make more at beginning/end) array_push($pageList, $i); // Push the first half one to the array array_push($pageList, $pages - ($i-1)); // Also push the second half one, this saves us from doing a second loop. } asort($pageList); // Sort the numbers in ascending order, as they'll be jumbled before. return $pageList; } } [/php] Then use it like this: [php] $pages = getPages(100); foreach($pages as $page) { echo "<a href=\"thread.php?p=$page\">$page</a>, "; } echo "<a href=\"thread.php?p=100\">Last</a>"; [/php]
Well just use the index of whatever you're displaying, so page 1 will show index 0-9, then create a new page and display 10-20 or whatever.

Thanks Matt W!

If you're designing just to "design" and not to actually achieve a goal or build something specific, you're not really designing in my opinion, because I think design implies that your work is solving specific problems ("problems" is used loosely here). [editline]29th January 2014[/editline] I also find that when I'm actually working on something specific, I will generate way better ideas.

For moment I made like 3 website and I don't like them.

Frequently reference them against what you're working on, and pay close attention to things like spacing and alignment. After you do that a few times you start to build up mental rules about what works well and what doesn't. Copying to learn is actually really effective in my experience.

[QUOTE=XL5;43719315][IMG]http://i.imgur.com/QbQwSrz.png[/IMG][/QUOTE] Sidebar text is too dark.
[QUOTE=Jelly;43721168]Sidebar text is too dark.[/QUOTE] For a darkish design in the sidebar I think the grey would be better than a more white looking colour, suits great with the read in it as well.
Added an option to automatically load the next product when you like/dislike something on spoonfed since that was a very frequently requested feature.
I've given web development a shot again. How does this look? [url]http://basbieling.com[/url] [t]http://i.imgur.com/pj9Qmjz.png[/t] [editline]1st February 2014[/editline] I still need to add a lot of content though (projects etc)
[QUOTE=Mega1mpact;43753017]I've given web development a shot again. How does this look?[/QUOTE] Hmm... Looks pretty decent. I would add some more horizontal padding, and maybe smaller font size on the nav links. edit: like this. [IMG]http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/1553/8d18.png[/IMG] padding: 0 15px; font-size: 15px;
New loading screen for my server: [url]http://plexrp.co.uk/loading/[/url] [IMG]http://i.imgur.com/1YJ3q08.jpg[/IMG] Plays a slideshow. The background music is just a joke and wont be in the final product and the slide show images will be showing at random next I have chance to work on it. The text in the corner of the screen is also random :D PS: I know I should be using callbacks for the text in the corner of the screen, just at the time I wanted to get it done quick as possible so I just stuck to what I knew. [QUOTE=Mega1mpact;43753017]I've given web development a shot again. How does this look?[/QUOTE] You have some PHP at the top of the page source, looks like PHP isn't installed correctly or you are echoing this or something: [code] <?php if (strpos($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'], 'MSIE') !== FALSE) die(header("http://abetterbrowser.org/")); ?> [/code] (You also have a script tag closing nothing and a few other HTML errors but yeah, you can run it through the W3C validator if you wanna fix those) [editline]2nd February 2014[/editline] [QUOTE=Chizbang;43754910]New loading screen for my server: [url]http://plexrp.co.uk/loading/[/url] [/QUOTE] I get not background image in Firefox and in IE there's no text in the red box + no background image.

May I ask what version of IE you're using?
[QUOTE=Chizbang;43755052]Thanks for the feedback! May I ask what version of IE you're using?[/QUOTE] Oh wow I didn't even think the version of IE on my laptop was so outdated, I'm using version 8, you can probably ignore that I guess then but I have the latest Firefox version (26.0)
I have tested on IE 11 and 10 and both work fine. Thanks very much for the info. Not sure whats going on with Firefox, but Il take a look! [editline]2nd February 2014[/editline] Aha! It was me using: [code] $(window).height() [/code] Rather than: [code] $(document).height() [/code]
Finally finished my two month project! [URL]http://coalescedigital.com/[/URL] Complete with a client control panel and admin control panel. I could use someone to help me test this for bugs/exploits. Willing to pay a small sum of cash for someone preferably with a bit of php and security knowledge (PM me)
