[editline]1st April 2012[/editline]
i'm just saying what i honestly think of the background. it's distracting and unpleasant to look at, it's a good concept that has been overdone to the point of it being a negative aspect of the site.
Then what you say is "I think it's distracting and unpleasant to look at". That is only what you think, and it makes quite a deal of difference. However agreeable upon your opinion is, stating a thing as fact and in an aggressive way is bound to spawn a shitstorm.
 • Could someone please explain how the "amount" field of a PayPal api request (https://cms.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/?cmd=_render-content&content_ID=developer/e_howto_api_nvp_r_SetExpressCheckout) is both deprecated and required. WTF

 •
am that background better be less than 60kb
that's my nightmare, designing for looks and not being able to pull off reasonable filesizes one of my initial ideas was to possibly use canvas to generate these lights, and move them around very slowly so it feels like an aura this would also eliminate the need for such a massive background, but it could easily be intensive due to the blurring needed to create the effect, not to mention I'd need a fallback [editline]1st April 2012[/editline] I'm more or less just doing this for fun, so I guess it would be nice to not get carried away.
 • Tried something new in a few minutes this morning, I channeled all of my energy into making something really generic, and not spending more than 10 minutes on it. [t]http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/1518/wholescreenx.png[/t]
 • I'm not really very good with websites (I prefer desktop/mobile programming!) but I've been playing with javascript canvas for a bit and threw this together (open it for the animation) http://baz.horsewell.co.uk/project
 • Just whipped up a proof of concept pseudo-aero effect; uses a full copy of the background with a gaussian blur applied and negative background-position values to sync up the locations. Draggable and updates correctly; if it wasn't two 1680x1050 images I'd actually upload it somewhere or give a link. Was a fun test exercise, only took about ten minutes. Almost feel like whipping up some window styles for it and making some miniature apps inside it, like a virtual desktop.

 •
isn't there a css3 filter for blur?
Just checked syntax and tried it, no support in Chrome with or without vendor prefixing so practically speaking there isn't. I actually didn't think about filters though, thanks for the thought.
 • The blur filter is apparently only supported in Chrome's alpha version at the moment: http://css-plus.com/2012/03/gaussian-blur/ (scroll down to "I think you could use it now actually").
 • Working on a browser game where you program an AI for a bot and you fight with your bot against other player's bots. Not gonna post screenshots or anything until I have it at playable state.
 • I wrote this essay about the methodologies that GitHub use for Uni: http://www.haslehurst.net/post/20336047122/github-processes-and-methodologies

When I looked at the picture I was expecting the BAZ logo to rotate around or something, I don't think the moving background image works at all well in its current state.
 • Been working on a new Facebook app similar to "Draw Something" but with all your friends at once. Done it all in HTML5 so it should work accross all devices. Destructive testing and all feedback is welcome, but please let me know if you find anything serious. http://apps.facebook.com/guesswhatgame/ I know the layout is shocking at the moment, i'm going to hire a proper web designer once I get the functionality properly implemented.

 • Urgh, that's weird :s. I'm using a free SSL certificate at the moment so that could be the problem. Is anyone else getting a similar error, or is it working?

 • I'm not really any good at design but I wanted a website for a simple blog/place to host shit so I tried to design one, trying to make it as simple as possible. I feel like something is off but I don't know what, I was hoping someone here who has an eye for design might give me some feedback. I think the background is too colourful or something, but I replaced it with something from subtlepatterns.com and it looked too black and white.
