The University of Florida’s chapter of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity is under investigation after members spit on and took flags from wounded veterans. Last weekend, Zeta Beta Tau students from UF and Emory University were in Panama City Beach for their spring formal. They were staying at the Laketown Wharf Resort where veterans were also staying for the Warrior Beach Retreat, according to Linda Cope, founder of the retreat. For the past six years, the Warrior Beach Retreat has been hosted by Panama City Beach twice a year to bring in wounded veterans and their families. Cope honors her son, Joshua, at the retreat — he lost both legs and his right hand after his vehicle hit a roadside bomb in Iraq, according to the retreat site. The event brought together combat wounded veterans and included a parade on April 16 where between 8,000 and 10,000 people lined the streets. Cope said the students from Emory and UF acted dishonorably the next day.“We focus on the caregiver and strengthening marriages,” Cope said. “That’s our vision.” Members of the University of Florida chapter of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity are under investigation after spitting on and taking flags from wounded veterans. The students and veterans were in Panama City Beach when the incident occurred. Cope said Zeta Beta Tau students picked on the veterans, spit on them and their service dogs, and urinated on American flags. “In all of my years, I’ve never seen such debauchery and disrespect,” Cope said
Source: http://college.usatoday.com/2015/04/24/u-of-florida-fraternity-accused-of-spitting-peeing-on-american-flag/
Fucking entitled little shits, they probably think they're so hard and edgy acting like this. They better not try enlisting to pay for their college debt, that's all I'm saying.
"Hey guys, look at me, I'm top shit by disrespecting people that served for my own country!" Do tumbleweeds run through these kids' minds? From the sound of it, they do.
They're saying in the article that they're going to be charged with battery, in addition to the possibility of being thrown out. IMO, go ahead with it, people have to realize there are consequences for dumb shit. Bet you anything the likes of these would be the first to run screaming at the sight of any actual trouble as well.
It honestly doesn't really matter what chapter you belong but if your fraternity causes this kind of incident, I'd probably drop all of my affiliation with this fraternity.
Low life pieces of shit.
snip
They're very lucky one of the veterans didn't beat their fucking ass for pulling that horse fuckery. I know a couple of fellow sailors and plenty of marines who would have put those litte shits in the hospital. I think their only saving grace was that there were alot of families there.
I don't know what to say, this really pisses me off, it's bullshit, but it's just the world we live in.. There's always going to "that person", some things never change. Just don't let it get the best of you, and considering the actions, or lack thereof, of the veterans they didn't and I respect them even that much more because of it. It takes a lot to not react violently to that.
Oh gross, my college is right next to this asshat.
Shout out to my dad (Naval Academy Graduate) for being the heat with the Dad burn.
I honestly wonder what drove them to treat veterans like that. I get that frat guys aren't always in the most logical state but this is particularly cruel.

In reality, they're tryhards who want to look like they don't give a shit.

Seems like a targeted response to something.
So what are they actually being charged for?
what the hell kind of person does this? what makes them think this is something they should do?
I don't think pissing on flags and throwing beer bottles at people really qualifies as apathy. Seems like a targeted response to something.
I meant the "I DON'T GIVE A FUCK" mentality. That's going to be their response if it isn't an apology.
They won't get charged for urinating on the flag, I hope.
They won't get charged for urinating on the flag, I hope.
I hope they do, or rather I hope they get the book thrown at them and if there happens to be some obscure charge they can stick on them for that then so be it.
My Uncle was a scout in the Army and has got to be one of the most hardcore dudes I know I fucking dare you to go up, spit on him, and not come out in the back of an ambulance.
According to the article they aren't getting criminal charges.
They won't get charged for urinating on the flag, I hope.
Considering they weren't the frat boys' flags, I hope they are. It says they took them from the vets. That's theft and destruction of property.
Oh it wasn't their own flag? Well I didn't realize that, yes then they should ofcourse get charged for it.
i really don't get why them being military veterans is relevant though
i really don't get why them being military veterans is relevant though
Because it was during an event that revolved around veterans? We really need the bad reading rating back.
I'm all against the total heroizing of veterens, but this is taking it a tad far.
Sounds like frat boys doing usual frat shit
Need to have their asses kicked imo. File photo from the frat, too. [t]http://funnyand.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/My-daddy-will-sue.jpg[/t]
According to the article they aren't getting criminal charges.
I'm pretty sure spitting on people is assault, though.
I love Frats! Like the one local frat who was totally against alcohol and drugs then the sheriff raided their frat house and found almost a literal ton of alcohol and drugs
