the very idea of a woman being a "slut" is misogynistic. this study is offensive
Wow, you are such a retard, get banned already (User was banned for this post ("Flaming, "get banned"" - Orkel))
"boys are never pressured into sex and don't experience any negative consequences." lol
"boys are never pressured into sex and don't experience any negative consequences." lol
Girls are more often pressured by boys to have sex than boys are by girls. Wouldn't you think?
Interesting, but I thought this is common knowledge by now
Wow, you are such a retard, get banned already
Oh stop.
Oh stop.
No, I'm tired of his fucking bullshit. He's a horrible poster that starts shitstorms in every fucking thread he posts in, not to mention that he's a freaking ALT OF A PERMABANNED USER.
Flash news! Shit is likely to smell bad to most people! That about the level of this article, way, way above obvious-o-tron
What I'm saying is if we throw out a nasty word for a woman who is very open about sexuality, we should then throw out a word for one who is NOT open about sexuality.
Is there a word that means prude but targeted specifically at women? Maybe spinster but that hasn't been used since the 70s
No, I'm tired of his fucking bullshit. He's a horrible poster that starts shitstorms in every fucking thread he posts in, not to mention that he's a freaking ALT OF A PERMABANNED USER.
he's right though??? the concept of a slut is misogynistic???
he's right though??? the concept of a slut is misogynistic???
How?
it doesn't matter if it was used or not. it's obvious what is implied
Yes but that doesn't mean one should be so derogatory about it.
Is there a word that means prude but targeted specifically at women? Maybe spinster but that hasn't been used since the 70s
Is it really the fact that the word "slut" is women-only that makes it so bad?
How?
well because a slut is a promiscuous woman right? and the word is derogatory because some people seem to think that women should all remain 'pure' and resist sexual temptation whereas men can generally fuck as much as they want and most the time are lauded for it rather than insulted. it's misogynistic to think that women shouldn't be allowed to enjoy sex and to have as much (or as little) as they want! [editline]17th June 2011[/editline]
Is it really the fact that the word "slut" is women-only that makes it so bad?
it makes it worse than if it was used for men and women.
Personally I disagree with the idea that the more partners a man's had the better. However my sexual orientation makes me not put this into consideration as much. It is hypocritical of many, correct. One notes that the whole idea of "Men should fuck as much as possible, women as little as possible" leads back to earlier times, biologically. Female animals of most species are selective of mates. Male animals just want to fuck whatever, e.g. male dogs go into frenzies upon smelling a bitch in heat.

The word wasn't used in the article itself, it was way more tolerant, so the study itself isn't really misogynistic, yet Sanius said it was, and that resulted in a long, pointless discussion, which Sanius is known to start.
but the study itself only targets girls, so it's trying to make it look like girls having sex more is somehow a bad thing without looking at male teenage-sex to divorce ratios or whatever.
That's because the point of the study is to study girls. It shouldn't be considered offensive to study a group of people.
That's because the point of the study is to study girls. It shouldn't be considered offensive to study a group of people.
Well I gotta admit that is a good point he had mate. Like if I studied rates of rape of white women among African Americans and that was the extent of my study, what does that say about me?
That's because the point of the study is to study girls. It shouldn't be considered offensive to study a group of people.
well it seems like a stupid thing to just study girls? like, why do that when if they studied promiscuity in all teens and the effect that has on marriage in later life it would give them data that isn't worthless? that's why it seems to me like this study is a bit MISOGYNISTIC!!!!
Oh, I can see where you people are coming from now, and I agree, but this thread has nothing to do with misogyny apart from OP using the word "slut" in the thread title. The study didn't take men into account - it only focused on women. It paints a bad image on girls who do choose to have sex at a young age, further reinforcing the backwards social belief that women shouldn't have or want sex (or lots of it).
Well I gotta admit that is a good point he had mate. Like if I studied rates of rape of white women among African Americans and that was the extent of my study, what does that say about me?
exactly, and if you DID do such a study, what conclusion could you come up with? that african americans rape more white women? but how would you know if they did it any more than usual if you didn't study other people that raped white women?
Well I gotta admit that is a good point he had mate. Like if I studied rates of rape of white women among African Americans and that was the extent of my study, what does that say about me?
Were you expecting me to say "Racist"? Because I won't, that's not at all racist.
We have to think about what misogyny means. Does it mean, as the literal definition of the word, "hatred of women", i.e. thinking women are inferior? But we have to actually expand the definition a lot to get the usage of people on this forum. The people doing this study might have had the belief that teenaged sex among women makes them more likely to be unviable marital mates later on. However is that due to society, or due to them thinking women suck? [editline]17th June 2011[/editline]
exactly, and if you DID do such a study, what conclusion could you come up with? that african americans rape more white women? but how would you know if they did it any more than usual if you didn't study other people that raped white women?
Well actually I don't know if that was the perfect example, because the study I imagined produced numbers for one group of people (African Americans), and the actual study produced numbers for promiscuous and non-promiscuous girls.
It's not like being slutty as a teen causes you to get divorced. It's that teenagers who end up being sluts have a certain type of personality that ends up in divorce.
the researcher thinks otherwise based on current limited information
“One possibility is a selection explanation, that the women who had sex as adolescents were predisposed to divorce. The attitudes that made them feel OK about having sex as teens may have also influenced the outcome of their marriage,” Paik said. “The other possibility is a causal explanation –- that the early sexual experience led to the development of behaviors or beliefs that promote divorce.” In a statistical analysis, he found more evidence for the latter, suggesting that the sexual experiences as a teen affected the marriage. The results related to unwanted sex supported his hunch. Nevertheless, he cautions that it is too early to rule out the selection explanation.
Is it that impossible that it's a combination of selection explanation and causal explanation? It seems unlikely that the sexual experiences in themselves would have no effect later on.
that's why I'm so upset. this study only serves to compound the idea that women should not be free sexually, while men are free to fuck everything in sight
Studies have to have parameters. This one was about women. Someone else will probably do one about men. They probably didn't have enough funds to do this dumb study about both sexes. Why are you so upset about it, Jeremy? [editline]17th June 2011[/editline]
the very idea of a woman being a "slut" is misogynistic. this study is offensive
The article doesn't refer to women as sluts. I added that to make the HEADLINE more SENSATIONALIST. Try reading. [editline]17th June 2011[/editline]
Nothing about this study mentioned the word "slut". It's just that the OP felt he needed to make an incredibly sexist title for the article.
SENSATIONALIST HEADLINES [editline]17th June 2011[/editline]
he's a freaking ALT OF A PERMABANNED USER.
This.
I've been called a slut. :v: :saddowns:
What? "Slut" is an insult. Are you saying we shouldn't acknowledge that women can have and enjoy sex, and that when they do we should label them with a derogatory term? I don't think you realize how offensive and sexist the term is. What is your problem?
I think of women who sleep around a lot the same way I do men who play World of Warcraft 24/7. They have no self control.
Whats new? You shit before you wipe?
