Well, if we have to sell hardware we will. We have no reason to believe we're any good at it, it's more we think that we need to continue to have innovation and if the only way to get these kind of projects started is by us going and developing and selling the hardware directly then that's what we'll do. It's definitely not the first thought that crosses our mind; we'd rather hardware people that are good at manufacturing and distributing hardware do that. We think it's important enough that if that's what we end up having to do then that's what we end up having to do. Woah! Is that... Gabe?
Woah! Is that... Gabe?
No, it's my grandpa.
Newell even hints at Valve having prototypes of wearable computers featuring high resolution displays.
Interesting.
holy SHIT
What's he mean by hardware? His Knives?
Yes
What are you talking about, clearly this is santa
I like that look
that rugged bear beard.
He's starting to rock the Santa beard :v: Seriously, he's got the glasses and everything. As to the article, I'm rather confused as to what he's saying.
What's he mean by hardware? His Knives?
Seems like they might head into the graphics card, processor market. If they have too.
Gabe is Santa, and he's bringing Episode 3 for Christmas!
I've always wondered if hugely popular - metaversal games of the future would require their own specific hardware or operating systems.
Oh man he looks so old now.
gabe looks old
I'll totally buy one of their products!
Where did you get the picture OP? It's not from the article as far as I can see. Oh wait I found it. Why not just link to the original article, it puts what he says into much bigger context. Link to whole interview: http://penny-arcade.com/report/editorial-article/valves-gabe-newell-talks-wearable-computers-rewarding-players-and-whether-w/1

As to the article, I'm rather confused as to what he's saying.
That present hardware (I presume that he means mainly consoles) suck, and that if Valve has to create their own hardware to be happy with it's capabilities, they are going to do it. That's pretty damn good if you ask me. If Valve brought in their own console running Steam centered OS, I would consider getting it.

A Steam games console would be good though.
Gabe's been playing Skyrim. [editline]20th February 2012[/editline] Look in the top left corner.
Holy fucking shit. Still can't believe it's Gabe.
Gabe is going to turn into Santa.

Plus I hate blogs that exist to repost news articles written by other sites for the sole purpose of increasing page views. I'm looking at you Kotaku.

There's a Half-Life 3 logo in the top left corner.
Am I the only one who thinks that beard is disgusting? It's so patchy and weak looking.
Newell even hints at Valve having prototypes of wearable computers featuring high resolution displays.
It's probably a PC-hat.
