• 13-year-old finds mistake in Metropolitan Museum of Art map
New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) is one of the world's premier destinations for artistic and historical exhibitions. But this epicenter of worldly culture is not above admitting the occasional mistake. Even when the correction comes from one curious 13-year-old boy. The Hartford Courant reports that 13-year-old Benjamin Lerman Coady found an error in the Met's Byzantine Gallery during a recent visit. The seventh-grader is a fledgling history buff who recently studied the Byzantine Empire in school. While checking some of the dates on the map, Coady noticed that sections featuring Spain and Africa were missing. Before leaving the museum, Coady attempted to inform the museum that the map was inaccurate. "The front desk didn't believe me," he told the paper. "I'm only a kid." However, Coady received an email from the museum's senior vice president for external affairs, notifying him that his request was being forwarded to the museum's medieval affairs department for further review. A few months later, Helen Evans, the Met's curator for Byzantine art, sent Coady an email: "You are, of course, correct about the boundaries of the Byzantine Empire under Justinian," she wrote. Evans even invited Coady back to the museum to meet with her in person. She says the Met is working on updating the map but isn't sure when a new, more accurate rendition can be put on display. So, what lesson did Coady take from his experience? "If you have a question, always ask it," he told the paper. "Always take chances."
Source: http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/13-old-finds-mistake-metropolitan-museum-art-map-211918787.html I love that kid

Slow news day.
For a 13 year old that's pretty impressive.
There are a lot of shitty posts in this thread. Good on the kid.
So many bans. Either way: good for him.
good for him world needs more people like him
well shit, I was there just a couple weeks ago good on him
How does a museum get something like this wrong? It's just a Wikipedia page away.
How does a museum get something like this wrong? It's just a Wikipedia page away.
While managing everything else, some might've not noticed. Just a lack of attention, really. Simple mistake.
There are a lot of shitty posts in this thread. Good on the kid.
And Craptasket is collecting all the crap. This reminds me of the case that happened here, when two kids found a deceased in an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere.
Kinda makes you wonder who's really in charge of creating and/or displaying these items... Hell, the fact that it took them MONTHS to go "Hmm, you know, this kid is right!" is a bit sad too, but kudos to the kid for actually spotting it in the first place. I did something similar once at school where we were working off of a textbook (via overhead projector) that had something totally wrong for one of the tests... I pointed it out, it was resolved and I was given a free king size mars bar as a reward. Are there any pictures of the incorrect map we can check out? I've never seen it.
What about the one where a guy had to lick a monkey's ass to get it to shit?
Hey Ninja. This is kinda off topic a bit but your unlooped avatar was driving me nuts... Here's a proper looped version that still works with Facepunch's stupid Gold Member avatar limits;
A smart child indeed.
Man, a lot of retards posting today. On-topic, whoa, museum directors got told by a 13-year old. I can see him growing up doing what he loves most - ballin' historian snooping through things and correcting mistakes where he can find 'em.
For a 13 year old that's pretty impressive.
I think most adults would just not mention it even if they knew it's wrong. Gotta love kid mentality.
