• Canada Sells Out Science

99% of the scientists who have ever existed in the history of mankind are either furious right now or rolling in their graves. And as a budding young scientist (who is, I think, alive) I can say I'm certainly in the 'furious' category. I may not live in Canada, but holy shit, people like this asshole are why we can't have nice things.
This is going to stagnate Canadian research greatly if enforced. So much in science has or had no immediately obvious uses. Lasers, for example. Or atomic clocks, absolutely vital to the functioning of GPS satellites.
What the flying fuck.
Canada makes the fucking Canadarm and now this? How do you go from this To now?
I don't ever want to hear another Canadian say the US is backwards again.
The US is backwards. [sp] Canada has some backwards dumbfucks too though[/sp]

Honest question here, but is it necessary for Canada to do scientific research of all kinds if there are other places in the world that do it better? Limiting our research to strictly social or economic benefits can't be that bad, can it? Especially when our neighbours to the south can pick up our slack. [editline]15th May 2013[/editline] Maybe that research funding can be better spent elsewhere?
I do not like our government
harper stop putting your cats in charge and get back to work

What happens if the Canadian team gets X conclusion while the American team gets Y conclusion? If you didn't have the Canadian team at all you would only be left with the single conclusion, and not have more possibilities to look into. This is an incredibly simple explanation, of course; there would be many teams in each country. The more people doing research the better. It will be more likely your results will be correct.
