You could see the cafe and armed cops from where I was standing.
My mistake, you were a road over from where I thought you were, meaning you were about 115m away, S̶o̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶y̶'̶v̶e̶ ̶m̶o̶v̶e̶d̶ ̶e̶v̶e̶r̶y̶o̶n̶e̶ ̶b̶a̶c̶k̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶a̶b̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶2̶4̶0̶m̶ ̶(̶P̶i̶t̶t̶ ̶S̶t̶)̶ Edit: I might of heard it wrong, I've been watching the footage all day and I swear I heard they were moving them another street back, but it seems the exclusion zone for tomorrow ends at the street Jelly was on. Maybe it extended further earlier in the day? PDF of exclusion zone: http://www.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/files/martinplaceexclusionzone.pdf
My mistake, you were a road over from where I thought you were, meaning you were about 115m away, So they've moved everyone back to about 240m (Pitt St)
Even better to hear that

I'm happy some people were able to escape(?), hopefully nothing happens on the inside that panics the hostage taker.
You can clearly see the channel 7 building in my photo. Heres street view for reference: https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-33.867718,151.2098525,3a,75y,86.95h,88.55t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sjGTaS5n7lkEfxUPJHYhJTw!2e0
How is he still a mod.
It's facepunch and you've been here since 2006, do you not know that Facepunch has one of the worst history of mod's? on topic: Apparently leaders from the Islamic communities have come together with Christian communities to pay respects
Nope, both photos were taken at Castlereagh Street.
Yeah, I initally thought you were on Elizabeth Street because my head first identified the channel 7 studio. As an Gold Coaster who goes to Sydney for a week once a year, I'm not the extreme authority on sydney streets.
I'm happy some people were able to escape(?), hopefully nothing happens on the inside that panics the hostage taker.
the escapes made him really pissed off, the 5 that ran out weren't given permission by him to leave they just sprinted for the door
the escapes made him really pissed off, the 5 that ran out weren't given permission by him to leave they just sprinted for the door
I have to say it was uplifting to see.
the escapes made him really pissed off, the 5 that ran out weren't given permission by him to leave they just sprinted for the door
Still good they escaped, but I hope not many more of them try as he now most likely is extra aware.
Still good they escaped, but I hope not many more of them try as he now most likely is extra aware.
If it's any conselation I guess it implies that there is in fact just one person, and he doesn't seem to have a huge amount of expirience regarding stuff like that. Generally I feel like the Police has had the upper hand from the beginning of the situation.

So I guess I can support that.
Man behind siege named as Iranian cleric Man Haron Monis: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-12-16/cleric/5969246
I'm not sure if this has been posted yet, but according to google maps this is what the inside of the cafe looks like (I thought some of you might have a general interest in it) Edit: And since we now know who the guy is, heres his Twitter: https://twitter.com/sheikh_haron Its an interesting read.
how are you a mod wtf
"Holy shit people can't have personal opinions that don't affect his perfomance as a community babysitter get him fired!"
"Holy shit people can't have personal opinions that don't affect his perfomance as a community babysitter get him fired!"
Even if it's an opinion, it's retarded. People forget Portugal is right next with Spain in the peninsula and we have next to nothing influence from Islam. It's either Christianity, Catholics or atheists.
"Holy shit people can't have personal opinions that don't affect his perfomance as a community babysitter get him fired!"
pretty sure hes not going to ban people for being islamophobic/xenophobic cunts (a bannable offense) when he is one himself
"Holy shit people can't have personal opinions that don't affect his perfomance as a community babysitter get him fired!"
xenophobes/islamophobes should not be mods
Disagreeing with a religion does not make you a xenophobe / islamophobe. If I held prejudice against people based on religion, that would be, but really I don't judge someone on their political or religious views as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. That said, I disagree with a lot of views that any religion has, and especially don't like how the islamic religion is a breeding ground of extremism. Something in that culture definitely needs to change to discourage extremist violence.
In case any of you are interested in the WhoIs of the terrors suspects (now taken down) website. https://who.is/whois/https://www.sheikhharon.com One interesting thing to note that Reddit pointed out is that a phone number is on there, could it be his? Edit: Someone on reddit claimed to of tried it, said the line was engaged.
he hates muslims and calls them barbarians for stuff that happened in literally medieval times.
What the fuck does any of this have to do with the hostage situation?
According to the journalists behind the FreeNewsAU people, theres a rumor the SAS are about to go in. Heres the stream for anyone interested, you have to turn the volume up high to hear them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOJWvZt7a5c
he hates muslims and calls them barbarians for stuff that happened in literally medieval times.
I wasn't talking about him specifically, more of explaining how I personally feel about different cultures and religions in regards to events like this. Something needs to change in the way people view and practicee the muslim faith in order to discourage extremism.
nothing on 9 or ABC yet
I don't imagine that 9 or ABC will say that they're about to invade, but that stream is the same one ABC is using for their footage. Edit: Should clarify that the camera is set up right at the cordoned off point for the media, theres domestic and international journalists there including some of our big names earlier in the day, but still take all the info with a grain of salt at this point.
also ever since the 70's, (bombings, hijackings, 9-11. ISIS, ect) the amount of islamic violence has definitely swayed people into thinking that they are barbarians, which is not the right way to think. It's a knee jerk reaction to the whole "not all muslims are terrorists, but most terrorists are muslim" thing. It's the wrong way think about these things but people still do it. The only thing to do is preach the correct way to practice being a Muslim, and never condone violence (which I think is being done?) but really this is a whole other debate and I think this thread is better suited to the events at hand
