The video, obviously intended for an international audience, was crafted to highlight the way in which the United States celebrates diversity. But if you pause the video 33 seconds in, you might notice a man with his arm around another man. And that's apparently a problem.

The ad promoting tourism to the US seemed innocuous enough, but Family Research Council president Tony Perkins warns that the advertising campaign is being used to "highlight same-sex attractions." The Discover America ad highlights diversity in the US, including a song by Rosanne Cash and images of an interracial couple, two Muslim women in a city and people celebrating the Hindu festival Holi. But Perkins is peeved by its attempt "to celebrate homosexuality" by featuring a man with his arm around his partner on a bus for almost two seconds. Perkins claimed that the ad depicts "a country of radical values and backwards priorities."

Perkins went on to blame President Obama for this, calling the ad part of Obama's "push to 'rebrand' America." In the event of a Romney presidency, presumably religious lobbyists like Perkins will have the influence to make sure ads like these never air anywhere.

SOURCE: http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/06/09/12139612-this-week-in-god

PS: There is a series of these ads, only one of which features 1.5 seconds of a gay couple. They are ran by the US non-profit 'DiscoverAmerica' to encourage tourism to the United States. The Youtube channel with the ads can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/user/YourDiscoverAmerica
how dare they show 1 second of a gay couple that nobody will realize without watching for a second time how dare they, gays are the #1 source of problems of america. unemployment, the economy, crime, etc are useless to fight, this is what we must focus on.
how dare they show 1 second of a gay couple that nobody will realize without watching for a second time how dare they
If you blink you might miss it.
Boy are they predictable. There is obviously NOTHING ELSE they could be focussing on.
White Nationalist's will be condemning this for interracial dating.
I feel like we should have a big wheel or something to see who is offended today.
That's when they get you Don't blink. Blink and you're gay. They are fast. Faster than you can believe.
So it's SCP-173, but instead of snapping your neck you turn gay.
What the hell would a "Family Research Council" research, anyway? How to teach your children to be mindless shits?
What the hell would a "Family Research Council" research, anyway? How to teach your children to be mindless shits?
In the US, anything with "Family" in the title is more likely than not representing "Family Values," which a lot of the time in these organizations equates to "Conservative Christian values." So really it's just an advocacy group that advocates getting rid of things like gay people whenever they show up. Yes, there are people in these groups that will comb through videos looking for something that might come across as gay.
> Advertise to the rest of the world how diverse, inclusive and tolerant your country is > Massive shitstorm from homophobic bigots because of gay couple, thus showcasing how intolerant some Americans are. Stay classy, America. [editline]11th June 2012[/editline] Like seriously, America's the only "civilised" western country that still holds onto these fucking retarded outdated views on homosexuality. When is the "greatest country on earth" going to join the rest of us and stop the bigotry?
The FRC would've gotten madder at this shot, but the fact that a minority is sitting at the back of the bus calmed them down a little.
Honestly, you could do a lot worse than the United States when it comes to bigotry and shoddy LGBT support. Sure, we have an needlessly high percentage of extremely vocal, conservative white Christians that you're definitely seeing, but it's not as though the majority of Americans are. Also back to my post, the reason these groups use buzzwords like "Family Values" is because they're trying to make it sound like they're sane, moderate people out to preserve the idea of a family, when they're really not. I suppose it's more of a euphemism, really.
Does anyone actually give a shit what the Family Research Council say

It's supposed to be one of, if not the, most civilised country in the world, but it still has these atrocious bigots being popular enough that they get to influence government policy.
