DANIEL BATES UK Daily Mail Friday, July 6, 2012 It is the horrific moment an Afghan man is blown apart by a US missile. But in a moment of twisted inspiration an American helicopter pilot decided to give it a impromptu soundtrack – by singing ‘Bye, bye Miss American pie.’ He belted out the most famous line of the Don McLean classic at the moment of impact when a fireball consumed at least one man. The video on LiveLeak.com appears to be from an on-board camera of a pilot from the 101st Airborne Division in an AH64 Apache helicopter. According to the caption the victims were ‘innocent farms planting poppy seeds in the middle of the road,’ although that has not been verified.
Drove my chevy to the levee but the levee was dry, and them good ol' boys drinking whiskey and rye, singing This'll be the day that I die...
‘innocent farms planting poppy seeds in the middle of the road,’
pfffft ahahaha
I'm probably going to start an argument with this, but, this isn't unusual. If you made a big deal over every man you killed (and come on, it's a war, lives are gonna be lost on all sides, it sucks, but thats war) you would quickly break down into depression. Trying to be a bit more upbeat helps in stressful situations. This pilot isn't the next Hitler, sensationalist bullshit.
According to the caption the victims were ‘innocent farms planting poppy seeds in the middle of the road,’ although that has not been verified.
Yeah, okay. Planting a valuable crop on the side of the road. Sure.
Can we get a proper source, preferably with less sensationalism. Inb4 the inevitable shitstorm of retards that this kind of thread attracts. If it was a legit combatant and not just a civilian who gives a shit what the dude said, military sense of humor, coping mechanism etc.

Oh no, soldiers doing their job stop the fucking presses
There's a huge gap between not dwelling on the lives you've taken, and celebrating your current kill with an upbeat musical number.
It wasn't that bad, it seemed no different to when they say "nice kill" in most videos of heli attacks.
There's a huge gap between not dwelling on the lives you've taken, and celebrating your current kill with an upbeat musical number.
Coping mechanisms are coping mechanisms. It was hardly an upbeat musical number anyways, he said a single line of a song.
Yeah, okay. Planting a valuable crop on the side of the road. Sure.
It's Russia Today what do you expect when it comes to article about America
There's a huge gap between not dwelling on the lives you've taken, and celebrating your current kill with an upbeat musical number.
because the pilot just broke out into song and everyone on the comms channel hopped it and it was like a god damned musical
There's a huge gap between not dwelling on the lives you've taken, and celebrating your current kill with an upbeat musical number.
If they dwell on the lives they they've taken then they're going to be in shambles. There's a reason why they sing or cheer when a bomb splashes down on target or when they get confirmed KIA's. It's a way to cope. We're not fucking robots that don't mumble a word after we shoot someone in the face.
because the pilot just broke out into song and everyone on the comms channel hopped it and it was like a god damned musical
Flight School Musical
Yeah, okay. Planting a valuable crop on the side of the road. Sure.
that was a joke. from the original video caption from the orig. uploader
Jesus fucking Christ he said a few words while he was pulling a trigger to kill someone who he was ordered to. Cut the man some slack for Christ's sake.
Don't argue otherwise, the guy was a jerk. Coping mechanisms or not, he did not show any respect for the life of the guy he just killed, also when you start thinking about musical numbers while killing people you've been probably doing it for a bit too long.
It's a little known fact that poppy seeds have a tendency to explode violently when things of a certain national origin drive over them.
because the pilot just broke out into song and everyone on the comms channel hopped it and it was like a god damned musical
For some reason they cut out the part after where all the choppers landed and their crews formed a chorus line over the dead guys' torso.

RT and Infowars. Must be a slow news day.
yeah i agree completely. why doesn't he just leave?!? omgg
why dont they let him out dumbo
How much respect do you think that "farmer" was going to give to the lives he was going to end when his "poppy seeds" blew a Humvee and the people inside to bits?
entirely ok for the afghan that sometimes isn't actually an afghan but a fighter from pakistan to put ieds on a road killing soldiers, and afghan civilians indiscriminately, but not for an apache crew to kill one of them precisely
There's a huge gap between not dwelling on the lives you've taken, and celebrating your current kill with an upbeat musical number.
You're an idiot. (User was banned for this post ("Flaming" - Craptasket))
So let me get this straight, FP. I can go and kill someone and sing over it, not giving a fuck, and it's all fine and dandy. As long as my excuse is that I'm trained not to give a fuck. Because I'm volunteering to murder someone, and am trained to do so, it's now okay for me to kill them and sing a happy little tune when it happens? Seems legit.

Coping mechanisms or not, he did not show any respect for the life of the guy he just killed, also when you start thinking about musical numbers while killing people you've been probably doing it for a bit too long.
As a moral human being, I completely agree with you. In fact, I believe that all men of war should adhere to a strict policy of self-flagellating angst, where every kill is followed by anti-war quotes, remarks about how this is all pointless, and thousand yard stares.
Okay, just like the other guy above me, what in the world is going on?! Infowars? RT? NEVER EVER treat RT as a 100% legitimate source ESPECIALLY when it comes to anything about America. As I said the other time, when a "news" service also has a "comic" section made to do nothing but ridicule Americans, Europeans, and Isreal, it isn't the sign of a good news source. Infowars is pretty self explanitory though so I'm not going to bother explaining that one.
He is doing his job. What, is he supposed to contemplate deeply on each man he kills?
