Apple is widely expected to unveil its latest smartphone in just under two weeks, but Sharp’s delay could mean Apple won’t have enough new iPhones to satisfy demand. LG and Japan Display are the other two providers of displays for Apple’s new iPhone. LG already started mass-producing the new type of thinner display. Sharp also said at the beginning of August it was working on the displays, but the latest reports indicate otherwise. Sharp’s difficulty manufacturing displays for the new iPhone comes from the technology used in the screens, according to reports from Reuters and The Wall Street Journal. This is apparently due to high costs that have cut into Sharp’s profit margins, but the Japanese company did not confirm the cause of the delay. To make the new iPhone thinner, Apple is said to use a new type of display, called in-cell panels that uses touch sensors inside the color filters of the screen. Apple patented the technology and will be the first to use it. Current iPhones use on-cell technology, which places the touch sensors on top of the color filters. This would allow for slimmer screens, some 0.5mm at least. The screen of the next-generation iPhone will not only be thinner, but also larger than on previous models, recent unconfirmed reports suggest. Tipsters pegged the size of the new iPhone display at 4 inches (30 percent bigger than current iPhone). This would make the phone slightly taller to accommodate the screen with a 1136-by-640-pixel resolution, from the previous 960-by-640-pixel resolution.
Nice
well at least he new iphone looks promising, but they should stop with the whole 2 year jump and just release a better phone overall instead of putting a better processor and slapping a 600€ price tag
I'm more interested in the 7" iPad it looks like they're going to launch alongside it. With the iPhone and iPad, Apple entered markets where all the other products were shitty and everyone else had to catch up. But we already have great 7" tablets from Android, so this time it's Apple who has to play catch up. And not only that but the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire are being sold at very low prices with tiny profit margins. Is a company infamous for high prices really going to be able to compete?
Why should they stop when it is (and has) made them the most wealthy company on the entire planet.
because people want 'the next iphone', they don't care about better tech, look at the galaxy S2, it still beats the 4S, the iphone 5 won't have the power the S3 has, samsung makes new phones every year, apple just makes their phones slightly faster. What's going to happen is Apple will go down if they don't R&D more, i want apple to bring better products for everyone, i want apple fags to be right when they brag about having the best phone because this is how competition works, so other phone makers step up their game and bring even better products on the market
My iPhone 4 is pretty much done for it so they better not delay it to 2013..

However, i want a fluid OS and good user experience. Not saying the High-end Android phones aint fluid. Sadly it feels like Apple is making their old phones sluggish every major iOS Update they do.
I'm starting to think that Apple is monopolizing the market here
Starting?
I'm starting to think that Apple is monopolizing the market here
If they invented it themselves and patented only the one specific way to make it that they're going to use and not the concept as a whole I don't see any problems with that. Unless they actually did patent the whole idea, then they can go to hell.

It's a wonder how sturdy these cheap plastics are these days :v:
cheap plastics
I don't know what other phones you've been using but high quality Android phones are hardly cheap plastic
I'm starting to think that Apple is monopolizing the market here
I'm pretty sure Samsungs Super AMOLED+ screens have incell touch sensors.

yes PLEASE make it thinner so people can buy bigger cases to go on it.
well at least he new iphone looks promising, but they should stop with the whole 2 year jump and just release a better phone overall instead of putting a better processor and slapping a 600€ price tag
So I assume you have no problem with HTC, Samsung, Motorola, LG etc. releasing a slightly better version every year? Not to mention all the dumb spin off phones.
So I assume you have no problem with HTC, Samsung, Motorola, LG etc. releasing a slightly better version every year? Not to mention all the dumb spin off phones.
yes because the galaxy S2 looks exactly like the galaxy S
I'm starting to think that Apple is monopolizing the market here
Their monopoly already came and went, fairly old data said that Android was at ~55% and iOS was at ~23% and Android is steadily increasing their percentage, not dropping. At one point it was reversed, and iOS had way more market share than Android. Supposedly Apple is still making way more money though due to the rampant piracy on Android and Apple being the only one who makes iOS devices.

I love the resistance the PixelHD skin offers for the iPhone. The phone feels ligther with it, since you can hold onto it with fairly little pressure. I hate my iPhone design without this skin.
if we talk about the next i phone screen production.they should stop with the entire 2 year bound and just free a better phone overall in its place of putting a better processor.
