Whatever makes you feel morally superior, I guess. You and I both know it would not end in debate, but rather both sides yelling and screaming until someone says something stupid, gets banned, and the thread gets locked, or another "hot button" thread pops up.
I wouldn't scream at you - I'd only start shitposting if it became apparent that you were doing the same. Don't act as if I'm somehow subjugating you.
it's hardly derailing the thread when it's still about the game and no-one's going to get banned for it because it's an interesting, pretty on topic discussion that's fairly civil why do you view it as 'baiting and shitting'?
It stopped being "fairly civil" when people started throwing around names and accusations founded only on "my interpretation is fact because I said so". That's probably why he sees it as "baiting and shitting". Also, mooth how exactly is the Phil situation relevant/applicable to this discussion? He isn't even comparable as he is someone who has had a very long history of flat out name-calling, bashing of other devs, bitching about even his own fans, calling people ungrateful, cheap, and a variety of other names, and cancelling his own game over being called out his behavior. Did Kamitani give up art over the criticism? or have such a volatile history of constant vitrol as Phil? Are you trying to reinforce the "baiting and shitting" claim? all I see is more pointless derailing, go to those threads if you want to talk about Phil. Again, I don't think Kamitani was being out of line; this is the way I viewed that "drawing response":
George Kamitani's drawing isn't implying that the game isn't for a select group neither is the punchline being gay. The punchline is simply "How come you only complain about the Female Characters being half naked but not the male characters" I don't even know where he got the third one from. Its just putting words into the mouth of Kamitani
You can disagree with me and the above interpratation, discussion is good... I just think all people want from you mooth is a little more substance in the arguments other than "because I said so" and further accusations & names.
how is saying his response was shitty and immature "over-analysing" anything surely if we can do this for someone like phil fish then we can apply it to this guy as well or have we as a forum not collectively decided to hate the guy just yet
phil fish was a douche who was like "our games are way better than yours" and then he cried and was like "IM DONE FOREVER" [editline]31st July 2013[/editline]
no it's really just a "lol gay" joke did you miss all the backlash on the internet when it happened [editline]1st August 2013[/editline] http://gamasutra.com/blogs/ChristianNutt/20130423/191078/Dragons_Crown_George_Kamitani_and_being_stupid_on_Facebook.php here's a good write-up on the whole ordeal
christian mutt admitted himself it may not be as offensive as he took it in one of his comments, he is non the less offended but he know's it may not have been kamitani's intent and that the whole ordeal is rather confusing
I wouldn't scream at you - I'd only start shitposting if it became apparent that you were doing the same. Don't act as if I'm somehow subjugating you.
Neither side has to shitpost for it to be a pointless argument. What do you honestly think would come from such a debate? Both sides would just become more entrenched in their own views. I'm just as likely to view your side of the argument as correct as you are to view mine as correct. [editline]31st July 2013[/editline]
how is saying his response was shitty and immature "over-analysing" anything surely if we can do this for someone like phil fish then we can apply it to this guy as well or have we as a forum not collectively decided to hate the guy just yet
More than FP hates him.
Jaja! Videojuegos!
The game is getting pretty damn good reviews right now, and most reviewers hardly mention anything that you guys are arguing about.

Oh wow. I'm impressed.
so any gameplay videos or screenshots or anything ? all I see is talk about pixel tits.
The shit posting in this thread almost gave me eye cancer. That aside, I can't wait for this game to come state side so I can play this with my brother and sister. I hope more games like this start adopting local co-op
Yes of course the tits are a male misogynist fantasy and a blatant act of rape of womyn by the hands of the patriarchy. The males having more muscle than a Gears of War character is fine though and not a female fantasy at all, because women don't feel physical sexual attraction, and if they do it's because of the patriarchy oppressing them into liking men (definitely not that it's in our nature to have sex and procreate). Sometimes I fucking wonder if people stop to think about what they are saying. Also before someone says that the muscles are comically big and not sexually attractive to the vast majority of women, do you think the titanic tits are attractive to men apart from a few?
let's not even start when his examples were from comic books anyway
not all illustrations/depictions of those female characters have been that revealing. Recently absolutely yes, but not always
I like how there's actually someone carrying your loot
so the artist responded by making a gay joke how classy I didn't care before because everyone in the game was half naked but now I think the artist is a complete dipshit
how is this gay
-snip-
The game is fun and the artstyle is both hilarious and helps distinguish between characters easily.

Frankly, a lot of people are missing the mark on why this game is sexist. Having attractive, powerful female characters is fine, even if this game does use a fairly gross art style to depict them. The problem is the female NPCs you save. Basically naked chicks heaving their chest, legs splayed open, laying on the ground waiting to be rescued. That's pretty fucking shit. Sexualizing power is nowhere near as bad as sexualizing victimhood. It's rapey. I imagine if Ryu-Gi made this game people wouldn't have many kind words for it, and well, it's basically a Ryu-Gi game at times.
The game is essentially a spoof on d&d, it's making overly contrasted characters INTENTIONALLY.
If ironic shitposting is still shitposting then ironic sexism is still sexism
If ironic shitposting is still shitposting then ironic sexism is still sexism
commentary on a subject through use of it's art, in this case a game representing 80's and early 90's beat em ups, power fantasies and DND like culture has it's value whether you refuse to see it or not i don't think it depicting it is advocating for it in all cases, certainly not in thought out art styles
I love the artstyle in DC, but Zeke's right, sometimes it seems a little immature if anything. The game still looks like great fun though, I might pick it up. [editline]1st August 2013[/editline] A lot of the stuff doesn't need to be there, and it would be more visually appealing if the characters had breasts that obeyed the laws of physics. But that's not enough for me to not like the art style, the rest is very interesting and well drawn.
commentary on a subject through use of it's art, in this case a game representing 80's and early 90's beat em ups, power fantasies and DND like culture has it's value whether you refuse to see it or not i don't think it depicting it is advocating for it in all cases, certainly not in thought out art styles
The artist's response to criticisms seems to point away from the art style being chosen as commentary on the subject When people want tired and sexist tropes to die you can't expect to put those tropes on a pedestal and avoid backlash
If ironic shitposting is still shitposting then ironic sexism is still sexism
It's not sexism. Having a weak woman is not sexist, having an oversexualized woman isn't sexist either. It becomes sexist when the intent is to put down women.
At least the artist knows how to create controversy. Actually the gameplay looks really great, just the art style is so off putting to me.
It's not sexism. Having a weak woman is not sexist, having an oversexualized woman isn't sexist either. It becomes sexist when the intent is to put down women.
You don't see how portraying women as the victim the vast majority of the time, and sexualizing said victimhood, puts women down?
The artist's response to criticisms seems to point away from the art style being chosen as commentary on the subject When people want tired and sexist tropes to die you can't expect to put those tropes on a pedestal and avoid backlash
to be fair the fact that the dwarf seems to have elephantiasis of the testicles makes it difficult for me to see the exaggerations as anything but a joke across the whole cast. not that it's necessarily a good joke, no real opinion on that front because i haven't played the game, but i think it's at least meant to be for laughs and not any kind of actual sexualization. not sure there's anything more to this except "let's give this chick huge tits and give him huge balls haha"
Quick question.. How come male characters never come into question when the topic of sexism in video games comes up? Their stereotypical archetypes, designs, and personalities are just as annoying and off putting as female ones.
You don't see how portraying women as the victim the vast majority of the time, and sexualizing said victimhood, puts women down?
No, not when it puts everything to extremes which rival monty python in silliness.
