As if he's a pure socialist and the US would become socialist.
More of them not understanding how the American government works than not understanding how economies work.
In 2020, Bernie will be 79-80. That's pretty fuckin' old.
That would make him the oldest president by 9-10 years. That does legitimately present a problem. Hell, just look at Obama from when he was elected to when Trump took office. Being president is a very high stress job, and being in you're early 80's still places you within the average age of death to natural causes. There's almost no way he'd be able to swing a second term if elected. I mean, nothing is outside the realm of possibilities but his age and health would be a very serious topic and concern.

There is zero requirement for presidents to seek a 2nd term. It's expected, but not necessary. If anything, he can spend time grooming a successor while he's in office.
crazy idea: bernie sanders finds a bunch of progressive graduate alumni (ages 35-50 hopefully) in political science/economics/etc and makes his own sort of primary where they all debate each other, and makes this competition huge on the internet. the people vote for who they like on the internet, over the course of a few months, garnering massive attention and memes, all the while constantly noting how important it is for young people to vote. this happens long before the democratic primary so they end up in the democratic primary without any bumpiness. dnc tries to put forward the same idiotic establishment, centrist democrats and fails amazingly because literally everyone's been raving about this person for like a year. this person wins the primary, takes the second-place person from the earlier competition as VP, and wins the presidency.
he's old enough to die mid-term but he's the best chance the democratic party has because they still aggressively reject anyone who's farther than center-left if they let someone with strong ties to the DSA run, someone younger but still 'legitimate' and who wasn't running because it's their turn or because that's what a carreer politician does, then they'd have another basket to put eggs into I just hope they realized that guilt-trip, reactionary, "have you seen the other guy?" politics and letting someone run your party because they put the most money into it leads to an inevitable trainwreck
