This has to be one of the most ingenuis new ideas out there- I saw a news thread on the product's 'release' in an expiremental group. I could see these world wide- How about you? (Note- Cannot re-find news article link this is a direct link to the website however) _____________________________________________________________________ Imagine the situation that you are in the modern metropolis, where you are not a local resident, and you have not booked a hotel. It is not comfortable situation, because in the modern, aggressive cities there are no opportunity to rest and relax. If you want to sleep, while waiting your plane or train, it may cause many security and hygiene problems. We believe that urban infrastructure should be more comfortable for people. For this purpose we have developed a device SLEEPBOX. It provides moments of quiet sleep and rest from the city without wasting time searching for a hotel. Here are the possible locations for SLEEPBOX: - Railroad stations - Airports - Expocentres - Public and shopping centers - Accommodation facilities In countries with warm climate SLEEPBOX can be used on the streets. Thanks to SLEEPBOX any person has an opportunity to spend the night safely and cheaply in case of emergency, or when you have to spend few hours with your baggage. SLEEPBOX is a small mobile space (box) 2mx1.4mx2.3m (h). The main functional element in it is a bed 2x0.6 m., which is equipped with automatic system of change of bed linen. Bed is soft, flexible strip of foamed polymer with the surface of the pulp tissue. Tape is rewound from one shaft to another, changing the bed. If a client wants to sleep in maximum comfort, he can take the normal set of bed linen for an extra fee. SLEEPBOX is equipped with a ventilation system, sound alerts, built-in LCD TV, WiFi, sockets for a laptop, charging phones. Also under the lounges is a place for luggage. After the clients exit, automatic change of bed linen starts and quartz lamps turns on. Payment can be made on a shared terminal, which provides the client with an electronic key. It is possible to buy from 15 minutes to several hours. SLEEPBOX is intended primarily to perform one main function - to enable a person to sleep peacefully. But it can also be equipped with various additional functions, depending on the situation. Application of the device can be very broad, not only in the form of paid public service, but also for internal purposes of organizations and companies. _____________________________________________________________________ http://www.arch-group.org/portfolio/diz/1/
they would be so unclean and dirty
for a second I was thinking a spam bot was trying to sell Sleepboxes to facepunch.
"Please be advised that a noticeable taste of blood is not part of any test protocol but is an unintended side effect of the Aperture Science Sleep Cube."
they would be so unclean and dirty
I thought so too- But apparently their is a thin sheet that gets 'recycled' on the bed- After looking at the pictures for it and a video it seems to work like the rolling paper on a doctors exam table. Just cycles and a new piece of 'linen' is on top of the bed. Not a bad idea, I assume they need to be cleaned regularly though- including the all the linen that gets used.
I'd get a forklift and drop people off in the desert.
renamed FUCKBOX
Japan has something a bit like this in Tokyo.
Wake up to find that it's been lit on fire overnight. Oh wait.
Perfect for an on-the-go wank. :eng101:
I want one of these at college.
Interesting idea, Although the ideas of sleeping in a bed that a ton of other people whose personal hygiene is unknown to me used is not very appealing.
These exist, they're called coffins.
Interesting idea, Although the ideas of sleeping in a bed that a ton of other people whose personal hygiene is unknown to me used is not very appealing.
Except, you know, with the automatic linen change.
These exist, they're actually used in japan as low space housing
Interesting idea, Although the ideas of sleeping in a bed that a ton of other people whose personal hygiene is unknown to me used is not very appealing.
So you must not like hotels.
what if i wake up in the middle of the night and have to take a piss
Kid-with-a-permanent-marker's dream.
As if a kid would afford to pay for one, let alone be allowed to without asking any questions.
what if i wake up in the middle of the night and have to take a piss
Diaper.

On my trip from Denmark to Holland I spent 14 hours on a train, and 6 people slept on a 2m2 area. Surely they could cut some of the space required for one of these and just make more of them? Seems like a whole lot of space for sleeping.
If some guy craps in there, not me I would never do such a thing, where do you think that crap is going to go? Recycled bedding? So that means the crap is rolling around in there somewhere, being smeared all over the recycling mechanism. And that's assuming the poops are solid, imagine some guy downing a bottle of sour milk and chili beans first, then spraying the liquidy fruits of his labors in there...then jacking off and shooting a load off in there too.

I bet the main problem this system will have will be drunk people
So you must not like hotels.
Yea, but every time a hotel room is used, it is cleaned thoroughly by human staff. What if the machine breaks? or someone takes a shit on the linens after they've been automatically replaced? WHAT IF?! :tinfoil:
I watched the video on the site, it looks really awesome.
I find it a wonderfull idea, but it will lack a lot of things such as hygiene, normal smell and the idea that people might do things like fap or something, agh. Although it could be good if it was cleaned VERY well after someone leaves the place, but that could cost a lot of money.

You have a disturbing mind.
Remember, black lights and hotel/motel/inn/SLEEPBOX rooms don't mix very well.
