Will the Tories get it into their thick skulls that spending £22bn on a new train line is so completely stupid that is defies competent thought? That money could be spend upgrading the rest of the network that current high speed trains can't travel high speed on before building a new network. Now they're spending another £7bn. Brilliant. Who wanted to visit the north quicker anyway?
You're looking at this the wrong way. It's about getting away from the North as fast as possible.
Talking as a non-British person in the UK, the trains in the UK are absolutely amazing. Brits are just way too spoiled so they you guys pretty much ignore what they say about their trains. I've been here for 2 years now and the trains are VERY rarely late or delayed, they very fast and comfortable. Sure, sometimes they are overcrowded but even that's not very common. This is the case in the north, I have no idea about the south. Might be different.
I'm all for this fast rail network if they can extend it to Edinburgh to connect the capitals and make it affordable. The cost of rail travel in the UK is far too expensive, I fly to London on BA from Edinburgh because it's always cheaper and faster than rail (and BA have a really nice luggage weight limit). You know you've fucked up when flying short distances is cheaper than taking a train.
They should re open the mines then we can put coal on the new rail.
