Yesterday it was revealed that the retailer would not be stocking any of Ubisoft's PlayStation Vita games at launch, and it also cancelled pre-orders for the Special Edition of Wii game The Last Story days before release. The company is negotiation releases on a case-by-case basis with games publishers, following a troubled year in which it expects to make an £18 million loss. But GAME's marketing director Anna-Marie Mason told our sister site Eurogamer.net that "there's no one specific catch-all reason" why the retailer isn't able to offer new releases to customers. "With regards to the Ubisoft titles, that is one moment in time. It doesn't mean to say we won't have that title or that part of our proposition on an on-going basis. "We can't stock absolutely everything. That's just not possible." "The same applies in a rational way to our online business," she added. "There isn't a definitive reason why we haven't been able to stock those two things most recently. But that may well change." Last week the store did not have copies of Namco's Tekken 3D Prime Edition, meaning it was not available on sale at over 350 UK stores. The game did not chart in the official UK sales charts as a result. Mason also said that consumers who place pre-orders shouldn't lose faith in the retailer, as recent situations are exceptions and not an indication of forthcoming problems with other titles. "We know our customers really well. Most of them have a really long history with us, and they know as a business we are absolutely committed to giving the best possible range as much of the time as we possibly can. "The instances we've had in the last couple of weeks are absolutely the exception, not the rule."[/release]
Move the shit games then.
Not got any room for PC games either huh.
hey, imadman GAME sucks we know that I don't think we really need all these threads about how much and how exactly it sucks.
Steam does not fail in this area.
"We know our customers really well. The PC section in GAME is laughable, it usually consists of a few copies of The Sims 3, WoW and its expansions and shitty sim games, even Tesco stocks more PC games than fucking GAME, and that includes new releases.
They have the "top sellers" bit with like 10 copies of every game for xbox and then a single shelf of PC games. Fuck off. Retail game stores blow anyway.
"There's no reason why we can't stock these releases but we still can't stock them." ???
Not got any room for PC games either huh.
They have space for them, assuming you want to play WoW, The Sims or 10 year old games.
Now I won't be able to get Michael Jackson: The Experience © by Ubisoft for the PSVita at launch! I was really looking forward to that one! What the fuck GAME?

I mean who even plays the ps2 anymore? Far less people who play the newer generation consoles, you know what to do!
What is GAME? Never heard of it before.
What is GAME? Never heard of it before.
It's a European retailer that unsurprisingly sells games.
It's a European retailer that unsurprisingly sells games.
Really? Must be a pretty new service, because I've never heard about it.
They have space for them, assuming you want to play WoW, The Sims or 10 year old games.
That's the thing, they're selling games no-one really buys anymore, apart from my Mum, no-one I know plays The Sims, and WoW just seems to be a commodity people brag about having now.[editline]22nd February 2012[/editline]
Really?Must be a pretty new service, because I've never heard about it.
Either you're so old, anything younger than 50 years is 'new' to you, or you just have never bought a retail game before.
Every single GAME I've been in was cramped, overheated and poorly set out. I've been to about 5 different GAME stores and they had all the PC games in a corner next to the pre-owned old games. Fuck GAME.
What the hell is up with formatting options on here now, I keep telling the editor to put text UNDER images, but it just turns all retarded and puts it right by the side of it.
I mean who even plays the ps2 anymore? Far less people who play the newer generation consoles, you know what to do!
PS2 is actually still surprisingly healthy considering its age and some people even develop for it still (not AAA ones obviously), simply because it has a huuuuge library of games and not everybody cares about graphics, especially when the game library of the brand's successor is laughable by comparison.
Game is a shit stain on the games industry sales market anyway, they overprice, have useless staff, shitty stores, and cry like fucking babies when steam outsells them, not to mention Gamestation was far better then they got bought.
I get depressed seeing this; As my local GAME's main game for PC.
Steam does not fail in this area.
Yeah man, their virtual shelves have billions of copies! [editline]22nd February 2012[/editline] Also, is GAME like Gamestop, but in the UK or what?
Here's an idea if you can't stock everything: stock new and popular releases in-store, then when you need space stock them in your web warehouse (including less popular / excess pre owned stock) and have an in-store ordering system that delivers what you're after either next day or in a couple of days time at no extra charge. I'm aware they already do this with in-store pickup and similar, but iirc this uses in-store stock (so if you want something more obscure you still have to order for delivery at home). Have terminals and stuff in store to facilitate this in-store too for less sociable people.
Also, is GAME like Gamestop, but in the UK or what?
Yes Exactly Why are people so confused
That's the thing, they're selling games no-one really buys anymore, apart from my Mum, no-one I know plays The Sims, and WoW just seems to be a commodity people brag about having now.[editline]22nd February 2012[/editline] Either you're so old, anything younger than 50 years is 'new' to you, or you just have never bought a retail game before.
Oh wow. Seriously, never heard of this chain, EVER.
Every single GAME I've been in was cramped, overheated and poorly set out. Apparently not. Also as for PC games, I have been to a single GAME store that had a good PC game selection, it was inside a Currys and had a large selection (2 long rows)
My local GAME didn't stock Skyrim for a couple of weeks after it came out.
When used to buy retail games I would often hunt for PC deals, I would check HMV, GAME etc. but that was 3 years ago, I buy only from steam now. Not to mention I got a copy of Heroes Might and Magic 5 with it's retail box badly damaged, any PC Game I bought had something damaged, sometimes I had to ask them to change it, many times employees acted like assholes to me.
I get depressed seeing this; As my local GAME's main game for PC.
Well let's be honest it was a good game.
GAME may actually be as worse as PC World [editline]22nd February 2012[/editline] Also, bullshit, I went in to GAME a few days ago to pick up skate 3, they had like a whole row of stacked MW3 copies. They could have just one stack and then keep the rest behind the counter, but instead they waste all that fucking space on MW3. They did it with all the 'Top 10' games too.
