Immigration New Zealand is refusing to allow members of a controversial rap group to enter the country. California rap group Odd Future were due to play at the Rapture hip hop concert headlined by Eminem in Auckland on Saturday, however, they have had their visas revoked this afternoon. The group is a "potential threat to public order", Immigration New Zealand says. Rapture concert promoter Paul Rosenberg tweeted he was disappointed by the decision. "Very unfortunate decision by NZ immigration to withdraw Odd Future's travel visas - while they were on the way to the airport," he tweeted. In a statement Immigration New Zealand said Odd Future had been deemed to be a potential threat to public order for several reasons "including incidents at past performances in which they have incited violence". "In one instance, a police officer was hospitalised following a riot incited by Odd Future." The group's leader Tyler the Creator is well-known for using homophobic slurs and graphic descriptions of violence against women in his lyrics. He today tweeted he "loved" New Zealand despite the last-minute decision. "OF (Odd Future) is banned from New Zealand, again. They said we were 'terrorist threats and bad for the society' or whatever," he tweeted.
http://tvnz.co.nz/entertainment-news/rap-group-odd-future-blocked-entering-nz-5831658
"The group is well known for their deeply, deeply offensive and sickening lyrics which incite their fans to cross the line to act out sexually explicit and violent actions against women," says Human Rights Commissioner for Women Dr Jackie Blue.
After listening to odd future i suddenly had the urge to kill people, burn shit, and fuck school
Wow NZ here I was thinking that you were cool.
"In one instance, a police officer was hospitalised following a riot incited by Odd Future."
Sounds slightly justified.
i like how eminem was allowed to perform here despite his lyrics and stage personas being incredibly similar. i guess when white people say these things it doesn't matter but when scary black youth say it suddenly it becomes danger

I would say a good 90% of Odd Future fans are white, including me. [editline]15th February 2014[/editline] and here I am with an Odd Future title.
I've seen videos of their concerts and they go fucking crazy, lol.

All of the middle-class white male teenagers are heartbroken, I'm sure.
no rap in middle earth

Stop doing that, use the other 90% of the threads here for that. I could see how they would be problematic, but it still seems quite harsh to ban them for their lyrical content.
why ban them and then noone gives a shit about eminem performing here?
Because... uh, Eminem is actually good?
Because... uh, Eminem is actually good?
odd future has shitloads of fans here that really wanted to see them. you really think it's due to how subjectively good a group or singer is that results in them being banned or not? the complaints were literally about lyrical conten [editline]16th February 2014[/editline] what a stupid post that is lol
Unless you have a reason for putting race into this, I'm going to assume it's your prejudice that's making you stupid.
my reason is: a white performer with very similar lyrical content was allowed to perform without any trouble whatsoever. i don't think it's purely a race thing though, i think age probably played a bigger factor. younger and newer artists who's fans are mostly youth as well probably seem more threatening.
Odd Future offends people, New Zealand bans things since Australia doesn't do that anymore, sun rises in the east, etc
Odd Future offends people, New Zealand bans things since Australia doesn't do that anymore, sun rises in the east, etc
Australia still bans shit, it is unusual for NZ to tho
Banning rap group Odd Future from New Zealand had nothing to do with the band's lyrics and wasn't a decision "made lightly", says Immigration New Zealand. Immigration New Zealand scuttled those plans yesterday, with a spokeswoman saying: "The Immigration Act 2009 provides that entry permission may not be granted where there is reason to believe there is, or is likely to be, a threat or risk to public order or the public interest. "Odd Future has been deemed to be a potential threat to public order and the public interest for several reasons, including incidents at past performances in which they have incited violence."
If you think it's about lyrical contents, read again. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/news/article.cfm?c_id=1501119&objectid=11201747
Australia still bans shit, it is unusual for NZ to tho
i dunno, we banned acts that were considered offensive from big day out (benie man or whatever) (but then again that might have been big day out that made the decision) and i think we banned postal 2 after all these new updates for it lol (although luckily i brought it before that) [editline]16th February 2014[/editline]
If you think it's about lyrical contents, read again. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/news/article.cfm?c_id=1501119&objectid=11201747
so it even says how odd future performed here without incident AFTER the thing they're citing as a reason for keeping them out, somehow i think the immigration people are lying
Weird because we haven't banned that Maybe it's opposite day for us or some shit
NZ is still one of the best countries in my book.
NZ is still one of the best countries in my book.
good country, shit govt. i guess the same goes for most countries though
probably got scared that they may influence the crowd to fight or something. I was there at the rapture, many drunk trouble makers (one cunt said he'd elbow my girl mates face for some random reason)
lol the injured policeman was injured indirectly, nobody actually laid a finger on him
According to the Boston Globe, an officer suffered a back injury while trying to contain the crowd and was treated and released from hospital the night of the incident.
http://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/opinion/blogs/rock-and-roll-mother/9723290/Odd-Future-ban-ironic-for-NZ thank god i held off buying tickets. fucking pisses me off anyway though.
