This literally made my face red with rage, what kind of person do you have to be? I mean holy shit.
A guy like prooboo.
Once again: morality doesn't apply when you've got a family.
okay, so if your family member was drowning you let them die?
It's sort of a cultural thing in China Another article
There have been many documented cases where a Chinese Good Samaritan was severely punished for helping a stranger in need. The story commonly goes something like this: someone witnesses an elderly person take a hard fall. They help the person up, and maybe takes them to the hospital him or herself. Afterward, the Good Samaritan is sued, taken to court, and loses. A recent China Daily article (on the Foshan incident) mentions the most recent case of this happening: In June 2011, Xu Yunhe was ordered by a court in Tianjin to pay an elderly woman he had helped more than 100,000 RMB. In these cases, the court rules in favour of the victim, citing that it was likely that the other person was guilty (even with no evidence to support this) because his behavior of being a Good Samaritan obviously went against common sense.?
[editline]herp[/editline] That's not to say that it's not horrible but one must take into account the circumstances and the culture this instance happened.
Well, to be honest, everyone in the surrounding crowd is just as guilty (but not more than) as that family. No one from the crowd tried helping him either. I don't give a shit about the 'bystander effect' having an effect on them. Of all of the people in the crowd, NO ONE went in. They're all hypocrites really. But the family that left him though... God I hope they enter into a world of shit for the rest of their lives.
Reminds me of this, China as well:

Every time I look in the news I keep seeing more and more reasons as to why I should never try to save anyone.
Shit like this is what keeps people from doing good things.
Once again: morality doesn't apply when you've got a family. [editline]16th July 2012[/editline] It's cold, sure, but you can't be weak in front of your family either.
"That man just saved my family's life, and now it's my chance to save him... but little Billy's shirt is wet, now I have to go home and dry him off. Sorry bro, it's you or the shirt." Go fuck yourself. I sincerely mean this. Go fuck yourself. You piece of shit.
Gradually, helping a stranger is coming to be regarded as a mindless and silly act, instead of compassionate or heroic
Oh China... Why are you such a shit hole?
I literally cannot wrap my head around this. Are our cultures so different that something like helping people in need (something I like to think is common sense) is considered 'against common sense' by them?
The family owned that guy really hard.
Please leave.
No matter what proooboo, if this man hadn't figured he'd be alive after this event, he'd never have saved the family. The mentality this creates just makes it less likely for future people to get saved. If all reactions were like this one, then this family wouldn't get saved because no one would risk themselves for that. They'd be dead and he'd be alive. Something I think would be a better solution than this one
I literally cannot wrap my head around this. Are our cultures so different that something like helping people in need (something I like to think is common sense) is considered 'against common sense' by them?
It happens everywhere in the world. Though in China it seems that helping others in need is more of a crime than anything.
Once again: morality doesn't apply when you've got a family. [editline]16th July 2012[/editline] It's cold, sure, but you can't be weak in front of your family either.
Morality, by definition, is what should be done, saying that you shouldn't do what you should do when you have a family is stupid.
He knew the risks, he accepted the possibility of the consequences. The family had themselves to take care of now. Sure, it's heartless, but you make exceptions when it comes to your family. Morality just doesn't apply when you're protecting a family
The evil cunt got rescued, was well enough to just walk off, and left him to die. That bitch should have died instead of him.
i wanna punch that family right in the face and force them to drown
Every time I look in the news I keep seeing more and more reasons as to why I should never try to save anyone.
That's just stupid. "All news are depressing, so I should be depressed" This is in China, over there, a lot of things are different. A lot of people only care about themselves.
Are you not getting this? They were on the verge of NOT having a family. If that man wasn't there they would all be DEAD.
That's not their fault [editline]16th July 2012[/editline]
Morality, by definition, is what should be done, saying that you shouldn't do what you should do when you have a family is stupid.
Unless disregarding the traditional pseudo-kantian notion morality is the moral thing to do when you have a family
His family should sue
Once again: morality doesn't apply when you've got a family. [editline]16th July 2012[/editline] It's cold, sure, but you can't be weak in front of your family either.
Isn't that what a family is for? People that will care for you when you are not at your highest and will be with you? The family just drove away without giving a shit they were saved
That's just stupid. "All news are depressing, so I should be depressed" This is in China, over there, a lot of things are different. A lot of people only care about themselves.
It happens all over the place, only about a month ago there was another story about a person trying to return a phone getting mugged and beaten by the people who came to collect it.
That's not their fault [editline]16th July 2012[/editline] Unless disregarding the traditional pseudo-kantian notion morality is the moral thing to do when you have a family
Do you have some sort of mental help facility near you? If so, then you should consider booking yourself in.
That's just stupid. "All news are depressing, so I should be depressed" This is in China, over there, a lot of things are different. A lot of people only care about themselves.
You're saying it as if only China has this problem. That said, I agree, while this is depressing news, it should not change your motivation to help others. Just because the world is loaded to the brim with assholes doesn't mean you have to be one.
Are our cultures so different that something like helping people in need (something I like to think is common sense) is considered 'against common sense' by them?
It's not really that uncommon in other countries either, just takes a different form : Here are few examples
Thats a very vague statement. If morality doesn't apply when you've got a family, then that druggie who murdered other people to get more money for drugs and to pay his X-wife is ok in your book? Think about it, what If someone murdered your family to save there?
Oh I'd be pissed. But god knows I'd murder someone else' family to save mine. If you wouldn't, you'd be a terrible father.
China is really fucked up with stuff like this. I remember the incident when some toddler was run over by a van and left to die. She was ignored by 18 (yes, eighteen) fucking passer-bys. The van driver didn't stop either. I guess, though, this kind of stuff happens everywhere in the world, it's just that events from China rise up to the surface a bit more often.
Maybe the mother tried to drown her kids and herself?
Isn't that what a family is for? People that will care for you when you are not at your highest and will be with you? The family just drove away without giving a shit they were saved
They're not his family
If I had to save one man who will put his life on the line to save multiple people or a crazy family that has no empathy I would save that one man.
