Charles Barkley -- who once said he doesn't create controversies, he just brings them to our attention -- is at it again. The basketball analyst for Turner Sports and former NBA great isn't backing away from comments he made on the radio recently that people who torched buildings in Ferguson are "scumbags" and some blacks degrade successful African Americans too often as not black enough. Barkley also agreed with the grand jury decision not to indict former Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, who is white, for fatally shooting an unarmed black teenager. In an interview with CNN's Brooke Baldwin on Tuesday, Barkley repeatedly came back to one point: He doesn't believe that white cops are out to shoot black people because of racism. "That's ridiculous," he said. Barkley called for dialogue and not just after a controversial incident like the Brown shooting. "We never discuss race in this country until something bad happens," Barkley said. And even then it usually reflects a "tribe mentality." "Everybody wants to protect their own tribe, whether they are right or wrong," he said. Barkley, who has had several of his own run-ins with police, lamented that there are too many communities that call for cops to come in and clean up the neighborhood, then cry racial profiling when they do and something happens. "We as black people, we have a lot of crooks. We can't just wait until something like (the Michael Brown shooting) happens. We have to look at ourselves in the mirror," he said of people in black communities. "There is a reason that they racially profile us in the way they do. Sometimes it is wrong, and sometimes it is right. Barkley also criticized the rioters who set buildings and police cars on fire in Ferguson. They were set on destruction, no matter the grand jury's decision, he believes. Instead everyone should be like the majority of the people who took the streets in Ferguson and other cities or like the NFL players who held up their hands as a symbolic gesture before a game.
http://www.cnn.com/2014/12/02/us/charles-barkley-on-race/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
Question that I don't know how to answer: I used to live in a neighborhood that was poorer and comprised almost completely of Mexicans, with me being a Mexican myself. If a lot of us Mexicans committed a crime, would it be fair to discriminate against us Mexicans, or people of our income? Would that be racist or advantage based on statistics? Oh, and another really good point to bring up about the store I work at - since we're out on the Las Vegas strip, there really isn't any statistics to suggest any income level or any race performs the most crime at our store at all. One time, a soldier came in and shop-lifted. Another time, a lawyer shop-lifted. I've seen a black person shop-lift, as well as a Norwegian. We have to watch out for everybody. I've heard similar stuff about working at the malls here in Vegas. That's obviously disconnected from other places and in a neighborhood setting, but yeah.
Racial profiling is almost always right. I'm an employer myself and I get tons of people of color all the time coming in and I always can tell everything about them the moment they walk in based on skin color alone. I have to ask you, would you rather hire a white, clean shaven or maintained facial hair person, or someone who has what looks like facial hair maintained by cavemen? It's just common sense people. Go out into a major city and you'll realize how accurate they can be and how accurate racial profiling can be.

It's satire based on another post.
-snip nvm-
With all of these posts responding to YourFriendJoe, we could have just rated him dumb and moved on.
It's satire, people. http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1439556
I know I'm going to probably get dumbs out of the wazoo, but, most male muslims come equipped with a beard down to their chest, or at least some form of beard. A job in certain areas is all about presentation. Would you rather higher a white, clean shaven or maintained facial hair person, or someone who has what looks like facial hair maintained by cavemen? It's not exactly hard to guess which one you'd pick. Despite that perhaps the muslim could be better at the job, it's still just the way it is.

With all of these posts responding to YourFriendJoe, we could have just rated him dumb and moved on.
This is Facepunch.. a simple 16x16 image isn't enough to express our asinine opinions about other peoples asinine opinions.
It's definitely needed for easy identification of people. If someone has a skin colour or otherwise features that coincide with a racial stereotype, then that's how those people would be identified. Case in point: I'm half Spanish and Chinese, but it would be damn near impossible to distinguish me as either of those, especially based solely on my photo ids. Instead to the average person I would look like a male of average height, possibly of Indian descent. I'm not joking by the way, not only have bogans and yobs confused me as such but to my great surprise some Indians have sought my advice on education options in my neighbourhood, and I have also been harassed by some Sri Lankans as well!
That was a goddamn clever title.

This is obviously a parody post, in fact I've read the cavemen beard thing somewhere here the other day except it was about Muslims. Edit: I mean "I always can tell everything about them the moment they walk in based on skin color alone" Come on, this can't be real. I refuse to believe it is.

If the police are just sitting in that neighborhood for no damn reason when there are no statistics to go on that would justify increased police presence, and they're there for no other reason than because the people are Mexican, then that is racial profiling. The only time it is justified is if a crime has been committed and the suspects description includes race to help identify them. Its fairly obvious to most people that all races commit crimes, but when you have statistics or a suspect description about a certain race, you can use that to aid in your job. But there must be a legitimate reason beyond, "They're Mexican, and I know Mexicans commit crimes so I pulled him over."
a parody post of an awful, racist post doesn't make it funny.
But that doesn't really make him an actual racist, as the ban states he is.
But that doesn't really make him an actual racist, as the ban states he is.
that's too bad. a few people might have recognised the original post and realised that YourFriendJoe's post was a parody of that, but to people who don't know/didn't make that connection the post looked like flat out racism, and that isn't acceptable on this forum. [editline]3rd December 2014[/editline] "omg he's not ACTUALLY a racist he was just referencing a post by another guy who really IS racist"
"omg he's not ACTUALLY a racist he was just referencing a post by another guy who really IS racist"
well yeah pretty much
I was going to say his satire sucked. The thing about satire is it requires quite a bit of precision and knowledge of your audience. He lacked both, and might be starting up something in the Refugee Camp because of it.
His RC post:
What are you going to tell me next, stereotypes aren't true? [editline]a[/editline] Really though I made a bet with my dog that I could manage to go 3 weeks without staying banned come on guys I don't even have the blood of a racist in me only half of my family hates black people.

His RC post:
Imo I found his ironic racism kind of funny in a 4chan kind of way. I can see why people would get pissy though as not everyone was aware of what he was making fun of
i found it funny
well yeah pretty much
exactly, that was meant to be you guys. we know that he's not actually a racist (or probably isn't) but reposting what he did isn't funny or clever, despite what you might think, and that's why he's been banned. stop whinging, we don't support anything that closely resembles racism, which is exactly what that post was, despite his attempt at satire.
what the FUCK are you even talking about [editline]3rd December 2014[/editline] anyone???
Ease of identification, mostly for reporting a crime. I brought it up mostly because I've noticed a lot of people around Melbourne tend to shy away from any reference to racial appearance and such, it even happens when people are reporting a crime for instance. All I'm saying is if someone looks a particular way, especially during a criminal act then racial profiling isn't such a bad thing if it allows the police to identify a criminal much faster. Any use of racial profiling outside of police use is practically unacceptable though, especially in the workplace (really hope that post was satire). Wasn't saying it's racist, just saying that it is what it is, but judging how someone will perform under particular circumstances because of their ethnicity is just silly.

[editline]3rd December 2014[/editline] "omg he's not ACTUALLY a racist he was just referencing a post by another guy who really IS racist"
that's literally the dumbest grounds for a ban ive sern in ages. Almost as bad as the Croatian making a joke that all Croatians are thieves in a thread about their leader stealing a pen, then getting banned for xenophobia. If you guys don't even kind of understand the context of the post, you should -not- be issuing out bans.
