The only reason china's economy is going so great is that they're raping their land and their people. They have no respect for the environment, they have no respect for human rights. Once their resources run out, and their cheap labor is replaceable by automated machinery, china's economy is fucked. [editline]24th December 2010[/editline]
America offer chinese workers jobs and pay them higher wages and then the Chinese economy will crash. Although the Chinese people are so opressed it will never happens.
How do you see that working out? Is china just going to let half their population leave? Is america going to be willing to double its population? To top that off, why would we want to offer them higher wages? We like the cheap goods they produce, we don't want to have to pay more for them.
They shouldn't accept a Chinese bailout. Thirty minutes after they're bailed out by the Chinese they'll feel like they need more money again.
I can definitely see China becoming the new USA in the next few decades with an uproar or riot (which we've seen countless this past years), and becoming a full democracy/republic.
hahah china can't ever come close to the US in terms of how they treat their citizens, sure they may make shitloads of money, but that's cause all the citizens work in shit conditions and get paid nearly nothing

Yet its common in the USA.

China may (and at this stage, will) overcome America on a financial basis, however you have to take things like quality and length of life etc. Their huge population means less space for everyone, less food, less well paying jobs. I've been to china, and in general the people are shorter due to a lack of nutrition. Not saying America doesn't have it's fall backs either. And chinas rise doesn't necessarily mean Americas downfall.
yup, can you imagine a communist revolution within a communist country?
China isn't Communist.
There's obvious reasons why they're doing this, they're not offering to do this because they're nice chaps that legitimately care about people in other countries.
Of course not, they want us to buy more of their stuff. Can't do that as much in an economic crisis. It's not like they're going to stroll down to Brussels one day and go "Oh by the way, Europe is ours now; check the contract :smug:"
China will have to give better living conditions and quality of life in general if it expects to not lose all of the smart people to North America and Europe.
China will have to give better living conditions and quality of life in general if it expects to not lose all of the smart people to North America and Europe.
The fact is China is booming just because it doesn't offer that kind of living quality. As soon as they start giving (or the people start demanding) higher wages, less excruciating working hours and all that, their rise grinds to a halt.

We always want them to adapt to our standards because we already have it so well, living in democracy and all that. The Chinese and Western culture differs so much from each other. I mean China has a written down history of over 5000 years and a culture that have practically not changed since then, except recently of course. It will be hard for China to change, but I know that they are trying. It's only not mentioned in the Western news, trust me. Many news sources are biased. Funnybunny, you talk about China raping their people, which to an extent can be accepted, so I won't go further into that. But it's worth to mention that since 1981 to now, China has lifted 600 million of its people out of poverty However about the environment; I don't believe any nation wants the environment to get destroyed, not even China. China is in the top when talking about investing money to preserve its forest. China issued a plastic bag ban, which has caused 10% fewer bags being thrown away. China is the nation that have spent most money on wind turbines and renewable energy technology. Currently 17% of China's energy comes from renewable sources. Harvard University estimates that by 2030, 100% might come from renewable sources. Beijing has car restrictions to prevent everyone driving at the same time, and instead use the collective traffic. It's funding the Great Green Wall project. You can read much more which you can read in Wikipedia by just searching. I mean China is like just experiencing the industrial revolution. Point is, China might not be the best nation in the world. But trust me, they are caring about their image and with the money in their hand, they will try to find ways to clean it. [editline]25th December 2010[/editline] I don't like when people are throwing out accusations all over the place. Be reasonable, find sources to back your claims. Would provide much more to the thread.
Hey, whoa whoa whoa, survival of the fittest, buddy, why the fuck would you bail out a failing country?
because they export a lot of stuff there if the eu falls, china falls also the eu isn't a country
Isn't China still trying to claim they need economic support? What the hell China? No really, what the hell
because they export a lot of stuff there if the eu falls, china falls also the eu isn't a country
If the countries of EU falls, everyone does. EU is the center of the world's economy.
EU, please, do NOT do this! China will have you lot by the balls if you let 'em bail you out.
i cant wait until we kill each other over oil
Acts of kindness deserve not scorn.
China isn't a bad country, but I do hope they loosen up with censoring before they end up being the largest economy in the world. You wouldn't want to have a third of the world population think what a single government wants it to think.
They violate so many Human Rights and those in the rural areas live in poverty, but apart from that what a great country!
Acts of kindness deserve not scorn.
It's not kindness though, it's self preservation.
I love when idiots say "x will go to war with China." A war with China would fuck up both sides.

Basically, it was a disaster waiting to happen; the students set fire to (I believe it was) the ROTC building, the guard was called in, the MP lacked riot gear and was prone to having things thrown at them, they weren't equipped with nonlethal weapons (because they weren't available) and instead were equipped with M1 Garands (probably the worst anti-riot rifle you could equip a soldier with back then.) The soldiers weren't ordered to fire upon the students, they didn't even really mean to do it.
