• Soldiers just back from Iraq get new orders: Afghanistan

If only the CIA hadn't been such assholes back in the Cold War to Afghanistan (overthrowing a democracy to create a puppet ruler). Maybe the Middle East wouldn't be pissed at us. Also, maybe giving resistance fighters/extremists weapons and training to fight the Soviets was not the best idea, considering they're using them against us now.
I don't like how the United States is the world police Country. It fucking pisses me off.
I think Team America: World Police sums up what America probably looks like right now to other certain countries. Only, obviously not as dramatic and definitely more serious.
seems to be turning into less of a war and more just US trying to control the middle east.
Out of Afganistan by 2012 Into Iran by 2013
Iran into 2013. Sorry..
Didnt Obama get the Nobel peace prize because he was gonna stop the war in Afghanistan or something?
Didnt Obama get the Nobel peace prize because he was gonna stop the war in Afghanistan or something?
Even Obama doesn't know why he got the Nobel peace prize.
Did you guys really think they were coming home for good? Were only pulling out of Iraq, not the entire Middle East.

Guys, please. The U.S isn't the only country in the Sandbox right now. United States United Kingdom Germany France Poland Romania Turkey Australia Spain Afghanistan It's not just the U.S. Quit acting like the US is the only one to blame for everything.
I can't believe anyone volunteers for this bullshit corporate oil war
Opium.
Why can't they just be re-stationed somewhere safer like bases in Germany?
Why can't they just be re-stationed somewhere safer like bases in Germany?
Humper Monkey. I don't think that's a great idea. :v: [sp]I doubt many people will get that.[/sp]
Humper Monkey. [sp]I doubt many people will get that.[/sp]
Oh man, I love that story. Terrible name, great story. [editline]e[/editline] I particularly like how almost everything had a rational explanation, yet still managed to feel creepy.
Why can't they just be re-stationed somewhere safer like bases in Germany?
Where they're stationed and where they're deployed are two different things. People in Germany still get deployed.
Why can't they just be re-stationed somewhere safer like bases in Germany?
It doesn't matter where they are stationed, the US is fighting a war and needs a constant rotation of soldiers to continue to fight it. Its not like these people have been in Iraq for the last 8 years non-stop, they will have been in and out in that time.
What does your dad do?
He's in ISAF, not fighting though. He's in charge of developing some projects. From one thing he told me, is when the US was laying fiber cables around a city, they got destroyed the night immediately afterwards each time. This is why I think Afghanistan will be worse than before US came in.
I also have family in Afghanistan, and all of them said that the Afghan Security Forces (not the police) are actually fairly competent, much more so than they were in 2001-2006. There is still much work to be done and many problems plague the country, but it has gotten better.
The security forces are ok, but the police isn't. You cant substitute soldiers for police.
The security forces are ok, but the police isn't. You cant substitute soldiers for police.
The British did in Northern ireland
The British did in Northern ireland
The Americans did during the Reconstruction as well. Then it all fell to hell when the soldiers pulled out of the South and they were unable to enforce anti-racism laws. I doubt any other place would fare much better.
Give them a break at least
Give them a break at least
If you mean the soldiers, they are getting a break.
If you mean the soldiers, they are getting a break.
6 months off, two of those months are paid vacation, the next are just getting into shape, exercising, mental evaluations and such. That's about the time you take off in between tours of duty. They aren't getting the short end of any stick, they are getting what every other soldier gets, just people think it's a big deal because they go from one shitstorm to the next.

I know they are soldiers and all that but wouldn't that make them less effective or more likely to do stupid shit once in the field ?
Well I don't know but I think it's kinda harsh to go from "one shitstorm into the next" like that. They don't get paid to twiddle their thumbs and collect a paycheck. Unless you would like to start a draft to replace those who are burned out? The purpose of a professional army is to have a group of reliable, well-trained soldiers, not to baby them. You know the risks when you sign up.

Its no different to someone in Iraq or Afghanistan going back after a 6 month break or whatever.
Where the fuck is my country. We gave you artillery warning systems and UAVs for help
Let's just put everybody except North Korea, Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan on the list, because we trade with so many people. Trading helps us indirectly.
Include ALL the allies!
