Not really. You have to really take stuff out of context for that.
Guess my great-aunt has been reading it wrong this whole time, she'll be crushed.
There's a fine line between hate speech and personal harassment. IE: I'm pretty sure it's not legal.. basically everywhere, to get up in somebody's face and start shouting insults and profanity right into their ears. That'd be classified as fighting words, or harassment or what have you. I think if you go out of your way to "protest" right next to a funeral in an attempt to shock and offend people in mounring then it's more a case of harassment, not free speech.
They aren't insulting anyone personally.
Fire paintballs at them, everyone will look the other way.
Couldn't you just arrest them for hate speech ?
May not be fighting words, but I don't see how this is not harassment. Either way "harassment" and "fighting words" are relative terms, and the meaning of those terms may change thanks to WBC
They aren't harassing or using fighting words because they aren't doing any personal attacks, only about types of people.
Couldn't you just arrest them for hate speech ?
Hate speech isn't illegal in the U.S.
What if they went around saying "God hates Niggers" then? They would immediately be jailed for hatecrime. Yet them going around saying "God hates Fags" is perfectly fine,
What if they went around saying "God hates Niggers" then? They would immediately be jailed for hatecrime. Yet them going around saying "God hates Fags" is perfectly fine,
They wouldn't get jailed for hate crime. Saying "god hates niggers" isn't a hate crime, it is hate speech.
Hate speech isn't illegal in the U.S.
Oh my bad. [editline]13th August 2012[/editline]
What if they went around saying "God hates Niggers" then? They would immediately be jailed for hatecrime. Yet them going around saying "God hates Fags" is perfectly fine,
Hate crime would only be valid if they actually beat a black man to death with one of those signs.
What if they went around saying "God hates Niggers" then? They would immediately be jailed for hatecrime. Yet them going around saying "God hates Fags" is perfectly fine,
No, no they wouldn't.

Yet them going around saying "God hates Fags" is perfectly fine,
Only if they threw rocks first. Then that'd be assault with a projectile (even if they missed) and[i/] a hate crime.
By implying others are lesser beings for acts of dubious morals or opinions and wishing their death has only shown you all to be hypocrites.
By implying others are lesser beings for acts of dubious morals or opinions and wishing their death has only shown you all to be hypocrites.
How is it hypocritical to want a bad thing gone? They're scum and we want to wash them from the bathtub of society.
They aren't insulting anyone personally.
Dunno why people are disagreeing with this, it's the truth. It's how they've been able to do this so long without legal consequences; they don't point at people and shout "YOU'RE going to Hell!" or anything that could be legally considered as targeting a person, they should non-specific phrases about fags and fag-enablers going to hell and the like. They're a family of lawyers, they can walk the tightrope of legality in this instance quite well, seeing as it's one of their main sources of income.
looks like they got protested
How is it hypocritical to want a bad thing gone? They're scum and we want to wash them from the bathtub of society.
Hey you want them gone? Stop paying attention to them.
This is the cost of freedom people. You need to be equal to Everyone Thank god I live in the good part of the UK.
Mate our country's jailed people for mean tweets. Britain can't exactly take the high ground here.
I don't want to be harsh and I've said it in every thread where it contains these cunts But if anyone wants to do a mass shootings do it on these people honestly you'll be treated like shit for killing people, but you killed the right ones. as odd as that sounds.

What you should really do is find loads of the countries best lawyers who absolutely despise them like everybody else and try to find the smallest violations of the law to catch them out with.
Best Case Scenario: Someone defys this law, resists arrest, some heads get busted, and the whole WBC is shut down. Hey a guy can dream. I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's worthless shitbags like the WBC that make it difficult to be a Christian in modern society. It's ignorance, intolerance, and flat-out evil like this that creates a bad name for Christians, and indeed theists in general, all across the world. And while it's not very "Christian" to wish harm on someone else, that's just how I feel about these poor excuses for human beings. As Americans, we have the right to protest. But we also have the right to bury our deceased with some dignity and respect. The way I see it, the second THEIR rights begin infringing on the rights of others, THEIR rights no longer matter. Like the old saying goes, you have the right to free speech, but that doesn't mean you can shout "FIRE!" in a crowded movie theater.
When they defy this law, they are going to get the law overturned because it is unconstitutional.
As Americans, we have the right to protest. But we also have the right to bury our deceased with some dignity and respect.
Where is this right to funerals and where does it say it is above the freedom of speech?
The way I see it, the second THEIR rights begin infringing on the rights of others, THEIR rights no longer matter. Like the old saying goes, you have the right to free speech, but that doesn't mean you can shout "FIRE!" in a crowded movie theater.
The way I see it, you and many other people want to infringe on the rights of the WBC, and in many cases want them to get hurt and killed because you all don't like what they believe. They haven't infringed on the rights of anyone else but are treated as though they have been doing so. Now I really dislike the WBC and their message, but they still have the right to do what they do because freedom of speech is more important than one small hate group. And it is really disheartening to see so many people not only fall for a cheap ploy by a politician to garner votes, but also actively want to give up one of their freedoms just to have vengeance on that one small hate group.
I couldn't care less if a group was chanting "Hitler was a really nice guy" next to a funeral, the way the WBC abuses the system, exploits the freedom for profit and comes out winning is the disgusting part of it that absolutely shouldn't happen. and hey, i have the freedom to wish for all of them to tragically die too.
