• Google wants your real name on Youtube
With the furore caused by Google's insistence on real names on its Google+ network (one that was ultimately solved by a verification program) still fresh in our minds, the internet giant is now trying to get YouTube users to switch over to their real names on the video streaming website. The prompt won't appear until you try to make a comment — so if you're a "silent" YouTube user, it won't affect you at all. Which indicates to us that perhaps this is an attempt to minimise the amount of bullying that occurs on the site — websites on which people are forced to interact under their real names often have a lower rate of trolling. The prompt will automatically scrape your name from your Google+ account — so, if you're operating on G+ under a pseudonym, you have little to worry about. However, if you're happy with the current status quo, you're under absolutely no obligation to change your user name — although Google will ask you why you don't want to make the change, offering you six options to choose from (one of which is the always-handy "I don't know"). nah [editline]e[/editline] I'm glad it's optional though.
I declined that shit in an instant, this is a reason I don't do google map reviews either
Don't see why anyone would bitch, you can just click no
I'll do it probably. I don't care.
I don't use google <duckduckgo.com doesn't bubble and save your searches.
It is time for the proud opinions of Leo Bonerpoppers to be finally showcased on YouTube sans shame.
I don't use google <duckduckgo.com doesn't bubble and save your searches.
http://duckduckgo.com/?q=fucking+incredible Fuck that

i don't think you can reply to comments without having your real name registered it might be a bug or something but if it's not then its bullshit
http://duckduckgo.com/?q=fucking+incredible Fuck that
Safe search filtered your search to : incredible. Turn off: [temporarily] [permanently]
Yeah..... you know how 99.9% of all YouTube comments makes me want to track down every dumbass 12-year-old that makes up the core demographic of YouTube and smash their computers to bits? Something tells me forcing them all to use their real names on YouTube comments would result in a lot of broken computers. :v: Just look at how well it went for Blizzard.
I don't use google <duckduckgo.com doesn't bubble and save your searches.
Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who is aware that corporations are amassing hundreds of data files on me, and simply doesn't give a shit.
It's not gonna be the same replying to fagkiller666 when he's just called Jimmy Fagkil
I'd put mine in if I wasn't the only person on Earth with my first and last name.
Nobody needs to complain about this if there's an option to skip it.
Happily I don't have a G+ account, so I will still be able to troll on. Even if I did it'd have a pseudonym, I don't put my real name online for anyone. Not even Tower Hobbies, Newegg and Amazon know who I actually am, and I buy shit from them all the time.
I'd put mine in if I wasn't the only person on Earth with my first and last name.
Same here, I've got a pretty unique name.
My current youtube account can keep using a nickname, however my other Google account doesn't offer the ability to set a nickname, so it seems like new accounts are forced to use full names.
nah [editline]e[/editline] I'm glad it's optional though.
Yeah, I feel uncomfortable sharing my name on the internet.
I declined and now I can't press reply on any youtube comments. :(
Just why would anyone ever want to do that?
My Google username was just my name with no spaces anyway, so it doesn't bother me. I can't really see why anyone would be that bothered anyway, seeing as you can just say no.
wait wtf I can still post comments under my alias, how do you even get approached to do this name business anyway?
Yeah, I feel uncomfortable sharing my name on the internet.
yeah cause the internet people will come to your house and steal your dog and hack your ip address and leave you with nothing
As long as it's optional I don't care. If they ever enforce it, the solution is simple, create a pseudonym. I've had one for the last couple of years that I use in pretty much everything on-line that requires a full name.
Which indicates to us that perhaps this is an attempt to minimise the amount of bullying that occurs on the site — websites on which people are forced to interact under their real names often have a lower rate of trolling.
I don't see this working as an effective anti-troll measure, trolls can, just like anyone, use a pseudonym.
wait wtf I can still post comments under my alias, how do you even get approached to do this name business anyway?
The first time you try to make a comment, it asks. You may have refresh or something when it came up and so it didn't change anything. But yeah, replying seems to have been broken. [editline]23rd July 2012[/editline]
yeah cause the internet people will come to your house and steal your dog and hack your ip address and leave you with nothing
Because he said that.
wait wtf I can still post comments under my alias, how do you even get approached to do this name business anyway?
very carefully
I might do this because i'm sick of my account name being lineridergod11 [editline]1[/editline] actually couldn't i make a google + with my screen name, then link it? Technically it could be a free account name change.
I can't wait to see Adolf Hitler commenting on my videos! :v:
