The devs are using Havok Behaviour technology for their animations. Anyone who ever played Oblivion or Fallout 3 in the third person should appreciate that this is a giant leap for mankind.
is that so ?! They didn't improve it since elder scrolls III. Try to push W+D(or A) and you will see how your character is walking, he can't turn body diagonally.
Foliage still looks crap.
However not many games have good foliage anyways, but come on: Crysis came out three years ago and I haven't seen better foliage in any other game.
That makes four years now. :l
They probably didn't compile the shadow map in that screenshot.
I'm fairly certain most Elder Scrolls games have a day-night cycle, baked shadows would be a mistake in this case.
I read that this screenshot was taken in a console version, and that the shadow distance fades away entirely not far away at all from the player.

wow holy shit! i've never noticed this. nice find, thanks.

It happens on nearly every console game with dynamic lighting.
I actually thought oblivions AI was alright. It made the game fun to play. Nothing wrong with some random shenanigans. Speaking of shenanigans, I once found two imperial guard huntsman shooting arrows at each other outside bruma. I guess one of them got in the way of the other and got an arrow up his butt, and went all like "BY THE NINE DIVINES!".
I'm very excited to see what they can do with the norse/viking theme. Though, I'm already seeing horns mounted on helmets but I'm fine with it.
Bethesda is going to mix the old good Conan the Barbarian with Viking themes.
You make it sound like their is some other developer more worthy of our admiration? Are we supposed to be worshiping Infinity Ward?
Bethesda has used the Gamebryo technology for a little too long, but it has served them relatively well when it comes to making open-world games with interesting stories and your typical RPG elements. This is the time for optimism as they are longer using the Gamebryo engine.
Infinity ward? You're terrible.. As for the Gamebyro engine, it's a total joke and do I need to mention the downs syndrome plague that infests Bethesda games? Perhaps the terrible animations? They fucking suck.
do you ever stop bitching about RPS?
I'll stop when they stop spamming the news node with their crap.
Game Informer actually seems to be pretty good and provides 50% of RPS' content anyway so we should just replace them with that.
i like rps
Then take it up with Garry or Hezzy. Bitching in every article they publish does nothing but make you look like a tool. Give the modteam a reason to take it out, because I guarantee they don't give a fuck if all you do is bitch and bitch and bitch. No one else cares, you're wasting forum space and bandwidth. Stop.
^ -right there criminal scum.
Anyone else horrified over the mods that will be released for Skyrim knowing the modding community?
I don't think it can get much worse. :v:

What developers do you prefer?
I'm not a fan of Gamebryo; I've experienced many of it's glitches, shortcomings, and performance issues. But for what it is, an open-world engine tailored specifically to RPGs, it stands out amongst the rest. Even many modern engines fail to fulfill similar roles; take the engine that GTA4 runs on. In that there is texture-popping and poor loading everywhere and it doesn't even need to handle all the foliage that the Gamebryo engine had to in Oblivion.
How about comparing it to the Source engine? Source is great for what it is designed for (small interiors and/or very limited outdoor spaces) but really looks like crap in large, open spaces like the world of Oblivion.
The comparisons could go on and on, but the point would still be the same. Yes, Gamebryo has many flaws. That doesn't make Bethesda a poor game developer nor should it impact your opinion of this brand-new, unreleased title that uses a completely new engine!
Sad to see Gamebryo go..There was a fallout 3 mod that made everything look like graphical sex to any graphic nuts eyes.
We must have more console gamers than I thought, if you guys really think that screenshot looks good.
it's fucking elder scrolls
if you don't think that's great you're probably clinically depressed, get help
