I'm not American...?
You know maybe he's "parroting" it because one size doesnt fit all and what might work for the UK or Australia or France might not work for the US?
Probably should word your posts like that instead of replying to a specific post and filling it with the word "you" and "your" throughout?
Maybe people are constantly perpetuating "American Exceptionalism" because the differences between the US and other countries with harsher gun restrictions doesnt end at just those gun restrictions.
at some point some of these kids are gonna snap, its gonna be one of two things, we keep guns out of schools, or students bring guns into congress.
What.
Wouldn't that be counter productive besides outright ironic?
eh, they'd actually have to take gun violence seriously for once.
Knowing how dysfunctional Congress is, they're more likely to ban students from protesting
So tackling socioeconomic inequality, racial inequality, lack of proper mental healthcare systems, the fucked up education system, incompetent people who dont enforce existing laws, massive gang issues, etc. arent important to solving the problem, just guns? Its not JUST poverty, or JUST mental health, or JUST the education system, or JUST this or JUST that, its a combination of a number of factors that contribute to a major issue. Stop trying to make a complicated problem simple when it isnt. Its not me being arrogant about my country, its me looking at the situation of the country and considering what would be actually effective and feasible.
when french kids start grabbing daddy or mummys rifle and starts gunning down kids then your comparison will work.
The first weapon has various features that make it optimal for killing people. Adjustable stock, pistol grip to reduce recoil, heat shield so the shooter can continue to use the firearm after a great deal of shooting, clear rod to help reduce time it takes to remove a jam, chambered in 5.566 for optimal armor penetration due to velocity, rails for scopes, and ergonomics that make it easier to conceal. Meanwhile, the pistol has a detachable magazine, chambered in a slower round, (unless you have a five seven), and can only shoot 9-22 rounds before reloading. The m14 Ruger is chambered in the same round, but lacks most of the features above.and you're wrong. It's a not a hunting rifle but a replacement battle rifle that the ar-15 platform later replaced. They have hunting variants, but the base of that rifle was intended to act as a high-caliber battle rifle after WW2. The mini 14 is just a variant of that gun.

You really should grow up. All of your arguments are emotion based.
Ironic coming from people acting like babies over not having certain toys that happen to kill people in massacres.
I wouldn't say acting like babies. I would say actually using their brains and pushing for solutions that will work. But, you know, if you're going to say "fuck you, I don't care what you want", then it's kind of expected for the other side to do the same.
Guns arent toys
You don't even try to make an intelligent argument for why firearms should be taken away. Surely you could make an argument that our society has become so deranged compared to 50 years ago that disarming the populace would prove more beneficial than harmful. However the founders of this nation specifically placed the right to bear arms right after the right to free speech because an unarmed society falls prey to big government. See: Dekulakization/holocaust. There weren't mass shooting 50 years ago and gun laws were more relaxed then compared to the present. Somehow this is the fault of guns and the NRA? Nobody wants to confront the truth. They just want to stick to their political aisle and parrot what their leaders say.
I think a part of the argument is the ease of acquiring a gun legally vs. building a bomb.
anyone with a copy of anarchists cookbook can technically do that yeah I meant legal channels I guess.
Firearms need to be taken away for one reason. Saturation. If I have a solution of saltwater and reach the saturation point, nothing happens. Add more salt or boil off more water, and I'll end up with salt precipitation because the water literally can't hold anymore salt. That's what this is, and always has been. We have more than enough guns per person to overthrow a country. More guns means more access and more loss and stolen guns. Why is it banned to have studies about this? Gun lobby and NRA are fronting you into buying more weapons through that emotional headed argument of liberals will take my guns away! Or a good guy is the only protection against a bad guy with a gun. Awb are good to reduce effectiveness and the only reason they pass is because the gun lobby makes so little off the sale of those weapons. While retarded they have a point. The features they ban make the shooter less effective than they would be with those features. The fact of the matter is the right uses factious arguments to say it's a race issue and a poverty issue but those committing mass shootings are predominantly white middle Americans. Not only that, they also bastardize the statistics. No real research has been put wholeheartedly into gun violence and it's causes. Instead this entire argument is billed down to people like seano saying that somehow arguments based on emotion are irrelevant in the real world. Humans are not emotion less creatures. Even if they were, it turns the argument into who can derail the other side more. It turns into the right saying "well what about this?" And the left saying "that shouldn't have happened anyways," or something to that regard. And the right like to drone on about how somehow mental health is the issue here when they want to privatize healthcare. It's ludicrous. These things have gone on far too long. Columbine, Virginia, whatever. It doesn't exempt you from others actions to say that not all gun owners are bad people. Why do I have to drive sober? Did I ever get a DUI? No. Did I ever kill someone while drinking? No. It's to prevent those things from happening. Guns are deregulation incarnate I'm the United States and for whatever reason you have libertarians circle jerking over their rights about it, and constitutional Puritans saying it's not right to change the laws. Yet nothing is being done. Not one damn thing. The Republican party won't add to healthcare, or concede on weapons. All theyll do is twiddle their thumbs and act like regulations are going to be the end of days because of a slippery slope fallacy. i used to be pro-assault weapons for the same reason many people here were, the vast majority of the gun crime was committed by handguns or pistols. yet here we are, Seven years later with multiple mass shootings caused by those very same weapons. I changed my opinion and flipped. I believe handguns and assault weapons should be banned. Why? Assault weapons have features to make it easier to kill a multiple amount of people versus a rifle. Handguns are concealable and dangerously hidden.
The first weapon has various features that make it optimal for killing people. Adjustable stock, pistol grip to reduce recoil, heat shield so the shooter can continue to use the firearm after a great deal of shooting, clear rod to help reduce time it takes to remove a jam, chambered in 5.566 for optimal armor penetration due to velocity, rails for scopes, and ergonomics that make it easier to conceal First off, how does an adjustable stock make it easier to kill people? What does that even mean? And that thing that looks like a heat shield? That's so you don't burn your hands when you hold it, not to cool the barrel. Most civilian AR-15's are chambered in .223 (and yes 5.56 can be shot out of a .223 rifle it's just not recommended) , as it's cheaper and just as effective for hunting and target shooting. You can get them chambered in most popular calibers yes, but that doesn't make every single person a mass shooter if they use anything but .223. You can put a scope on a Mini-14 too, scopes aren't exclusive to the AR-15. Also, easier to conceal, how exactly? It's a full size rifle, it's even harder to conceal than a bolt action rifle. Meanwhile, the pistol has a detachable magazine, chambered in a slower round, (unless you have a five seven), and can only shoot 9-22 rounds before reloading. Unless you're shooting at people wearing a vest, and manage to hit their vest, this doesn't matter at all, 9mm can kill you just as easily as .223, it doesn't matter against an unarmored target, hence why pistols have the highest body count in the US for firearms deaths. It's also much easier to conceal a pistol and carry more magazines. If you get a pistol that accept glock 22 mags, they are cheap and easy to come by, and they hold up to 30 rounds for extended mags, which are also cheap. Everything here is just wrong. The Mini-14 and M14 are completely different guns. The Mini-14 was designed to look like the M14 (hence the name), but wasn't even made by the same company, and is not even close to the definition of a battle rifle, and was created in the 70's, well after the M14. It was always designed to be a civilian weapon, that model is even called the ranch rifle. And yes, you get a point for saying it's chambered for the same round as the AR-15, because it takes .223 and 5.56, but again, .223 is cheaper and more widely used. The point is, rifles aren't more deadly than pistols in most situations, are more expensive, harder to conceal, and of course the biggest point, they look scarier. That's all this boils down to really, they want to ban them because they are portrayed in the media as being scary assault weapons, when in reality they aren't even used in even 5% of shootings, and if they were banned, the shootings committed by handguns would go up from 90% to 95%, and nothing would change. That's why people are against it.
From the makers of "The War on Drugs" now comes "The War on Guns"! At least 10 times as much bloodshed! More innocent people arrested! The black market rejoices! And the school shootings keep happening, woah!
Wow, it's almost like you have no idea what you're talking about, fascinating
It jus took undermines the if you don't think an illicit market would explode in potential sources for firearms under a gun ban you'd be wrong.
Yes, it would, if that were to happen, which it isn't.
Many are calling for just that.
Gonna repost this from another thread.
There are always going to people who fall through the cracks, yeah. But it's more than that. It's just a culture problem. These people for gun safety and stuff only show up after there has been a shooting. Same thing with law enforcement. It takes someone to die for anyone to give a shit for a few months and then they're back to their own little world. It isn't a gun problem. It's a culture problem. I hate how easy it falls onto "well just ban guns it'll get rid of the problem!" It won't. It's become the American way to find the easiest way out, even if it is right or wrong. Because time is money, right? Oh? This guy is getting bullied and pushed into a corner? Well. Not our problem, oh he got hit? Just suspend them both. He'll be punished for being assaulted. Oh? This guy has mental health problems? Just throw him into the class with special ed kids. He isn't our problem. Just keep him out of sight and out of mind. Oh? You're depressed? Stop being a little bitch and suck it up. Oh? You're poor? You can't afford medicine without going into debt? Well. It's your fault for being poor. Oh? You can't afford to pay the insane tuition fees to get a decent degrees? Well. Get a job you fucking bum. Oh? You have to work two jobs so you can afford to live in a one bedroom apartment and get medical help? Well, thats your own fault. Oh? You don't want to work 7 days a week? What are you? Some freeloading socialist. Well. I know you're doing more than what you where hired to do at work. But you need to do these other two jobs without getting paid for them. No? You're fired. Oh? He went postal and shot up his work? Well. He was always quiet. Huh. I wonder why he'd do that.. It isn't always 100% mental health. But it sure is a big fucking problem. People are pushed on by every direction here, and you're simply expected to suck it up with a smile. 95% of the people here don't give a fuck about your problems, unless in some way it'll affect them. Then they'll give you a hand until they're free of it, and they'll leave you in the dust. Then turn around and berate you for it. Mental Health? You're weak. You're shunned. You're poor? You're weak. You're shunned. Homeless because your house burned down? Your fault. Shunned. There is a reason why so many people here are poor and in debt. They attempt to live the high life. Because if you go out and you aren't wearing someone new? Everyone will judge you for it. I work at the Walmart Auto center right now, and I see so many people come in with brand new, nice cars or beat to hell cars that barely work and want a $20 dollar oil change for it, and they always sound ashamed to ask for it. Then only to get scoffed at by other customers or employees. A lot of people struggle to get by, but never try to show it. It builds up and up. People refuse to help other people because it makes them look bad. It's a mentality that is only being hammered in by our media and culture at every corner. "Oh! Don't look poor. Look at these mansions. But you'll never get here, so buy these outrageously out-priced shoes so you'll fit in with other people doing the same thing." Then following it with "Oh, You see these people? They're out to get YOU and they won't stop at nothing!" It's hammered in that you're pretty much a nobody, and to be anyone you need to spend, spend, spend, because if you don't! Those other spooky people who don't share the same views as you will get you. Buy buy buy. You're being attacked by these people you've never even met before. But they're bad, so buy more. But don't get sick, because if you're poor you're just as bad as them. But to buy, you need to work seven days a week, and never see your kids. Free time? Oh, no no. You need work more! Then when finally people snap it boils down to "Wow! Uh, Movies did this! Get those bad people who make movies!" When movies got more accepted? "Wow, uh! Video games did this! Get those bad people with video games!" When video games got accepted "Wow! Uh! Guns did this! Get those bad people with guns!" It's always a "Us vs them" mentality here. Everyone wants to feel big. Everyone wants to feel important. Because thats the American dream. Because you can spout non-sense and people listen to you, or you can shoot up a school. Either way, your face is on TV. You're remembered. Sorry for the long, and possibly unneeded rant. But I hate when this topic is just devolved down into "lol guns", its a far, far larger problem than that.
