https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/antifa-act-antifascist-mask-protest-dan-donovan-us-congress-prison-a8442971.html tl;dr this literally bans clowns but of course it's a law that's designed to be selectively enforced (hence the title i had to shorten because forum guidelines) (also no joke juggalos are actually cool peeps)
Oh boy...talk about a power grab.
I’d wear a masks so I don’t get fired if my boss disagrees with my part in a movement. This is basically trying to strangle free speech.
totally not a police state, guys!
Look on the bright side: If this law passes, we can finally stop Shadman's sinful hand.
I mean, I can kinda see some merit to it on the grounds of preventing awful behavior that is enabled by anonymity, but the cost to freedom of speech isn't worth it, and being specifically marketed as an antifa solution makes it pretty obvious the real motives here.
This doesn't seem at all like a crackdown on free speech nor a thinly veiled excuse to arrest any and all protestors going against the Fascist Republican Party's interests. Nosiree, everything seems perfectly legitimate here
So if we're go after masked activists. Does the KKK count then?
So does this mean we can start arresting the KKK on sight?
This would not be an issue if there was a genuine attempt at stopping violence. With a name like this one though it's perfectly transparent that the goal of this bill is to leave facists to take the streets uncontested. Here's hoping leaving the big scawwy masks at home will work as unvoluntary PR for the antifacist action. More likely though, too cool for school AFA will keep wearing masks and get arrested on the dumbest charges. In a reasonable world antifacist action wouldn't require you to put on a mask.
Shadman isn't a US resident.
in florida we already have a law that basically says "you can't wear masks outside period" so not like it will change anything here
Chapter 876 Section 155 Not completely true. There are some exceptions and applicability clauses that make it a bit more reasonable. However, I did learn by reading this that it is illegal to burn a cross unless you have the explicit written permission of the owner of the private property you are on.
If antifa is anti-fascist, and this bill is anti-anti-fascist, is this a fascist bill?
Isn't the very name of the act a tacit statement from the lawmakers that they support Neo-nazis and fascists?
Not their first and not their last.
There were mask laws to fight the law made in state of Georgia. SB 482 They fact you asked this question gives the impression you are severely ignorant.
I think they just want to make this a precedent now for when facial recognition becomes more wide-spread.
Which means anti fa s need to beat up old people in wheelchairs just gave the government the excuse they needed to clamp down harder and make it more difficult to resist when real bad problems come around
Calling someone out as being severely ignorant and then turning right around to place the blame on the nebulous antifa boogeyman is really someting Antifa didn't cause this. They're just a convenient scapegoat. It's not exactly a secret the Republican party hates protests. Or at least, protests that aren't filled with Nazis
maybe that or i just didn't fucking know.
I did a basic web search. I learned about the law in Georgia because it was on the news. Georgia police invoke law made for KKK to arrest anti laws made to combat the klan are now being used to shut down anti fa. if you going make statements make sure they 're informed ones. Getting hostile when someone corrects you isn't a good look.
He wasn't born in the States, but he moved a few years ago, and is a US citizen.
Threads like these it's important to remember antifa isn't a political organization but a tactic that only forms under certain conditions. So while you can say it's abhorrent that someone wearing black would hit a vet it's ultimately kind of pointless
But they are trying to enforce a political idea correct? Also saying it pointless is dismissing what I said. Doesn't matter what you think. It what the public at large thinks. The goal to enact change for any reasons requires winning hearts and minds. How does targeting civilians accomplish this? Wouldn't say targeting a pay loan store or a credit card corporation head quarter be more effective as a propaganda of the deed sort of thing? I'm sure if someone was looking to stomp a new hole in my debt collectors face i d more likely join them vs them stomping or threatening my decrepit grandpa.
my man, we are literally in a thread where the article is about making a law where wearing any kind of covering in protest to protect your personal life while being able to protest is a 15 year sentence. Get your ignorant head out of the dirt and smell the roses of shit like: interment camps for illegals camps for illegal children that were ripped from their parents and treated like animals Trump starting trade wars that are ravaging many sectors of industry for absolutely no reason Trump possibly being propped up by a foreign nation ACA being constantly gutted forcing premiums to skyrocket R. party members basically treating humans as scum wages have stagnated since the 70s while everything is becoming too expensive middle class completely disappearing Student/health loans are causing people to be in debt for the entirety of their lives the disgusting budget spread of 700bn dollars going to the defense, while Trump bitches about paying too much into nato LGBT protections being stripped Trump destroying foreign relations that date back centuries Trump attacking the media for covering his bullshit The list goes on and on and on and on. This nation is going to shit, people are getting extremely tired of it, and people are protesting in response. If all you can do is pull out a handful of dickheads attacking others in a protest, phew boy, I guess we already forgot the fucking nazi who killed a woman and injured many more.
Yon do realize Your stance on immigration and concern for the middle class disappearing is a contradiction, correct? I'm in a very white city. Very liberal. very rich. Only non whites here are folks who don't speak English and are paid below min wage to clean motel toliets. By being pro illegal you are allowing rich white people to under cut the American worker and enslave brown people. In short ya supporting scabs and embracing unjust exploitation
Giving the government the ability to define who is or isn't part of a given group, when being in such a group is something you'd be prosecuted for, is a really troublesome affair. Whoever, whether or not acting under color of law, while in disguise, including while wearing a mask, injures, oppresses, threatens, or intimidates any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or because of his having so exercised the same, shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 15 years, or both. I'm really not a fan of this text. This reads like a freezepeach grew arms, legs, and a degree in law. This will readily be used by literal Nazis practicing their right to free speech, not to protect themselves from the government, but from societal consequences, and lefties certainly aren't afforded the same privilege under this bill. Antifa? Prove in court that they "intimidated" you and that's a maximum of 15 years. Literal nazis? Absolutely nothing in this bill applies to them, because God knows you can't argue that a Schutzstaffel uniform is a disguise.
They're not sending thier best.
